#12115 Want to share list files but HOW?

Posted by APsit190 on 05 September 2012 - 09:55 PM

I probably never exempted the .lstx extension. By default, all extensions are blocked on IPBoard and only those you specifically designate are permitted. The existing .lstx files were probably uploaded by the Module Robot, which is exempt from all restrictions.

Hi Josh,
I somewhat sort of vaguely remembering that there was a list of file types (that's those with extensions) that one could and could not upload. Is that list of file types still there? If its not might be an idea to bang it up somewhere of all and sundry to see before proceeding to upload. What do ya reckon???

#12024 Modules-Help

Posted by APsit190 on 31 August 2012 - 07:03 PM

Brad,
Thanks for the response.  I had restarted eSword before to no avail, but I tried it again just to make sure.  Still no downloaded modules show.  I can see and read ones downloaded through the eSword menu (Ramsey's St. Paul the Traveler etc) but no module that I download through the Bible Support users group will show.  I tried to move them from My Documents/eSword to Programs/eSword, but I don't even find that option.  I can find the files My Documents/eSword and all the downloaded .topx files, but not sure what you mean by Programs/eSword.

I also am not finding what is referred to as the "topic editor".

Sorry for the ignorance on my part regarding this.

Thanks again,
Mark

Hi Mark,
Looks like you've hit a doozy there, mate. I dunno how new or old you are to e-Sword, and how familiar you are with the program. So I'll assume that you're pretty new to the program.

Generally all file with a topx extension are stored in your My Documents\e-Sword folder by default except those that are from e-Sword. Their default folder is Program Files\e-Sword.

OK, now for the next bit. all e-Sword's official topx files cannot be seen in the drop down Combo box but only the Reference Book thingy providing they are in the Program Files\e-Sword folder. To view a reference book in the Reference Book interface, there is a drop down Combo box at the top. Click on that and you should view all your topx note files there.  Moreover, if you convert a topic note file to a refx file, then you will no longer see it in your topic note editor. Also, your topic note editor will only view third party (those that you create) topx files, and that is set by default at My Documents\e-Sword.

Now, I don't know if this information is helpful to you or not, but I trust/hope it is, and that you have found a solution to your problem.

#12023 e-Sword Module Creation Guidelines

Posted by APsit190 on 31 August 2012 - 06:40 PM

I'm going to sticky this and maybe place it prominently in a new module creation area, to help new module makers get up to speed on what we expect for quality.

I'm thinking of a How to Create e-Sword Modules area. And thinking about how to feature it more prominently. The problem has been people do not know where to find this information. I want us to avoid the sloppy, "pump and dump" modules that make e-Sword look bad.

Hi Josh,
I think that, without a doubt, your idea of having a (what I call) a separate zone for new module makers is a really great idea. Fact is I tend to think that some us older hands could also take a leaf or two out of that proverbial book and learn some new skills in how to make things look better or great. So on this you've got a great big thumbs up from me.

#11995 the message

HI,

We can't use copyrighted text to make a module that's already a premium e-Sword module. There's several ethical issues there.

Josh

And perhaps the best one is we don't, ummm, break the law and commit crimeUh-uh.gif Well, I hope we don't, but you never know, eh!

Just couldn't resist that one. I really had to do it.

#11994 Computer Science: e-Sword and Databases. Part 1

Posted by APsit190 on 30 August 2012 - 04:21 PM

hi, if I open a bblx file with sqlite database browser which I downloaded on biblesupport and go in to the table "Bible" it shows just silly signs in the collom <Scripture>.
Where is my fault?

Usually that is because the bblx file has been locked (passworded), and the only thing you will see is "BLOB: (size 128) or something like that, or that you may have downloaded a Hebrew or Greek file. If that is the case, and you see those silly signs, they are either the rtf or the UTF in rtf code for those letters, e.g., if you see something like \u123 ? and etc., that is rtf in UTF code. If you see something like \'e0 and etc., that is an rtf code for either a Greek or Hebrew letter.

This document may help you to understand what I am talking about (http://www.biblesupp...ebrew-chartpdf/) and I trust this will help you.

#11952 Liddell-Scott-Jones Lexicon of Classical Greek

Posted by APsit190 on 28 August 2012 - 03:28 PM

Hi DSaw,
I noticed that you haven't posted any news about this project for a little while, and I'm curious as to how things are going with it. I know this much that if you are going to develop it and up load it, I'll be one of the first (depending on who's going to be actually the first one) to download it.

Just to encourage you in this, the Liddell-Scott-Jones Lexington sits amongst Lange, Bengle, and others that Josh has developed for e-Sword. It rates with the TDNT, TWOT and other great Hebrew and Greek Dictionary works that we see around. So, if you're going to put this up, I am prone to think that the serious heavy duty type Bible Student will be downloading this file.

#11772 Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament

Posted by APsit190 on 17 August 2012 - 04:35 PM

I generally only vote a post down if I really do not like it.

Hi Pete,
Hmmm, so I guess that in a sense this is an anonymous way of disagreeing with a person without saying anything as to the reason why you disagree.

Like all crowd based rating systems, they end up being used to either suppress ideas that some find disagreeable, and push ideas that some find agreeable, regardless of the objective merits of the idea in question, or else to push personal agendas.

Now I reckon that this where its really at.

If one dislikes or disagrees with a post, I tend to think one should follow it up by actually posting his disagreement. I tend to think this would actually help if a person made an error or got something wrong and needs to be corrected.  Also, where someone likes a post, this also should be followed up by commenting on it especially where one can add or build on the information that makes it more helpful.

If the ratings are to be accurate in measuring as to how helpful the post is or is not, then there should be a score line which can give an output to measure the helpfulness of it rather than just a Like or a Dislike, otherwise all this is doing is giving a person an ego trip of how popular he/she is.

#11575 Diacritical Markings

Posted by APsit190 on 09 August 2012 - 07:21 PM

Anyone know of where I could find a text online with the markings?  I could build the module, but I just need to find one.  Preferably a KJV or derivative thereof.

Hi Brad,
To do something like that there are two ways this can be done.
  • In SQlite database just put in the UTF in RTF code, e.g., M\u257?ori, (the UTF code is UTF+0101) which then comes out like Moāri, or
  • In T4 using Windows Character map, just select and copy the letter with the required marking, and you should be home and hose. I don't know how well that will work, but give it a go and see what happens.
I hope this is somewhat helpful to you.

#11573 Diacritical Markings

Posted by APsit190 on 09 August 2012 - 06:49 PM

Is there any possibility of having a KJV translation with diacritical markings for help in pronouncing Bible names like is available in hard copy Bibles like Cambridge, etc.

I second that request.

yes I third the suggestion  :-)

Ah blow, I'll fourth it! Its unanimous. We all want it! Motion is carried

Being a bit more serious about this, fact is I haven't seen a hardcopy of the KJV  with diacritical markings for ages. Do they still publish them?

Also, for those who are interested, I'm working on a document which has a list of Roman text with diacritical markings which has both the UTF code and the UTF in RTF code, e.g., \'u123? or something like that alongside with the letter it represents. As to the completion time of that list, I don't know when that will be.

#11572 Font in John Owen's Exposition of the Epistle of Hebrews

Posted by APsit190 on 09 August 2012 - 06:32 PM

I will unapprove the module immediately.

Hi Josh,
Good one.

May I suggest you that, if you haven't done so, email or IM the person who uploaded it that his/her module has been unapproved and stating the reasons for it. I think that this will show there is a (for a lack of a better word to say it) required standard for e-Sword modules, and outlining what those standards are. Having said that, this thought also came to mind, when a person decides to upload, in the upload page have a notice there stating the requirements for the module standard, or something like that.

#11551 Detecting (finding) of Study Notes in e-Sword

Posted by APsit190 on 08 August 2012 - 08:57 PM

As a result of having MySword on my smartphone, one of the things I noticed that when I created a study note in it, the program put a nice little icon right next to the verse for where the note is. Now, I reckon that has to be a real fantastic idea. It didn't matter what translation of the Bible you had, or to what other translation of the Bible you switched over to, that little Icon to the note stayed right there next to the verse. Fantastic idea.

Now, I thought about this littlegem of an idea in MySword, and thought, Hey, wouldn't that be a fantastic little idea in e-Sword. In MySword, if you touched that little icon next to the verse, the Study note window would open up. If that was in e-Sword,  in where if one could click on that icon, the Study note editor would open up and that note would appear. Simple ideas like that, I tend to think would make things just a tad easier to find stuff that the user has put into his/her e-Sword.

#11550 Esword on a Tablet

Posted by APsit190 on 08 August 2012 - 08:35 PM

MySword runs great on a 10" android device. However, there is a Deluxe version of MySword that is desgined for tablets that runs even better. This is not free. You can have up to 6 windows open in the Deluxe version. On my 7" tablets, I normally have 4 windows open.

Hi Pete,
Now that I have me a Galaxy smartphone, the next step is to go ether of the following:
  • Galaxy Note or
  • Galaxy SIII Smartphone (drool)
  • Galaxy Tablet
  • or combination of the SIII and the Galaxy Tablet. (really drooling here).
As for the difference between Samsung's Galaxy smartphones all there seems to be are:
  • Screen size
  • Later/newer versions of Android
  • More apps than the previous version.
Beyond that, what is seen under the hood, there doesn't seem to be all that much of a difference. For me is just because its a newer gizmo, and hey, I like playing with bigger toys than what was before.

MySword has no association with e sword, except that it was inspired by pocket e sword.

Thanks Pete for bringing this up.

To everyone else. Do not confuse e-Sword with MySword or Pocket e-Sword with MySword, as they really are totally two different applications. The resource files will not run on either of these programs, e.g MySword modules will not run on e-Sword and vice versa. So you will have to be very careful about this.

#11515 Hello from Idaho!

Posted by APsit190 on 07 August 2012 - 05:03 PM

Hi Barbara in Idaho,
Along with Larry and Pete, welcome to this site and forum,

It's neat to have you here, and I trust you really have a great time on this forum.

From my perspective BibleSupport is more than just a Library for e-Sword modules and resources. To me its an online community who love to share with each other some incredible works that normally are not available. But I also tend to think it goes further than that.

One can meet some incredible people here, and make friends with one another on this site. The Blogs page is a good place to go if one want to read some studies and thoughts some members have posted. Its good way to get to know some people.

Josh Bond, the creator and owner of BibleSupport, has developed this site to the extent where one can IM each other, and have a chat. So in many respects this site has a social network feel to it.

So, with all of that, let me say again, Welcome to BibleSupport, and hope your stay is richly rewarding.

#11464 Post e-Sword Module Requests Here

Posted by APsit190 on 05 August 2012 - 09:14 PM

So I may make two versions of this resource for e-Sword: one with images and one without images.

Hi Josh,
I think that doing something like that would really highlight the new capabilities of e-Sword. Moreover I also think that this would bring module creation to a standard never seen before, and in some respects would be appreciated by others.

You bringing this up reminds me of the cries that went out to Rick Meyers for e-Sword to be able to handle graphics (images), and of the comparisons that were made. If memory serves me correctly, at Yahoo's e-Sword group I read comments of those who didn't want to use e-Sword because it couldn't handle images. So when I look at this and see to where e-Sword is at now, I think that it makes perfect sense to include images where required.

#11461 One Million e-Sword Modules Downloaded

Posted by APsit190 on 05 August 2012 - 08:43 PM

Hi Josh,
Well mate, it confirms my previous comments about what happens on this site ... If God is in it, he blesses it. And really its as simple as that.

I think in the last few months the quality of the resources have hugely improved. James Rice, Tom Rightmer, Dr Dave and his merry little band, yourself, and many others have contributed to producing some very professional work of a very high standard. And I think this too has helped in what is happening on this site with the number of downloads.

I realize that I'm totally rehashing my cabbages, but I really think its worthwhile repeating that God actually honors those who walk in obedience, and delights in serving him, even in this kind of way. I really praise God for the work that is done here, and I praise God for you blokes who tirelessly put up fantastic modules.

Blessings,
