#46176 e-Sword X Not Remembering Views

Posted by APsit190 on 17 April 2024 - 12:08 PM

I'm a long time user of e-Sword and e-Sword X, and enjoy it immensely. On Windows or MacOS Sonoma I have no issue. I have one older Mac running MacOS Monterey 12.7.4 that has one annoying issue. It will not open to my preferred window layout. It opens with all panes open, all blank, except the commentary which is populated with my last used pages.  I have to select 'Bible, Commentary' pane preference every time, and then reselect a Bible chapter and verse. It's not terrible, just a little annoyance, and I was hoping maybe someone knew a way to fix it.

Thanks...

John LaPierre

Like you, I've noticed that my preferred view doesn't always "stick" in e-Sword X.

The other thing I've noticed is that the KJV+ Strongs refs panel has a habit of disappearing. If I toggle back and forth to the cross refs view it springs back to life.

As both are related to the "stickiness" of the view, perhaps related?

My suggestion is to contact Rick Meyers, giving him the information about your issues.

Just as a matter of interest, has the issues you guys are experiencing has been:

  1. Recent; as in just started to happen due to
    1. Recent update/upgrade or
    2. Recent new/fresh installation or
    3. It just began sort of like on its own accord
  2. On going since you first installed e-Sword X on you device?

By the way, the more information you can give to Rick Meyers (he's the bloke you authored e-Sword) as to what caused the issues you guys are experiencing, the better are the chances you have for a fix to the problem.

Another By the Way thingy. @ Glenn1611. Your "stickiness" thingy could be hardware related, i.e. lack of RAM or your Monitor is on its way out (getting ready to die), and needs to be replaced.

#45892 Text Editor: text-format cloning ("paint brush" tool), or Paragraph...

Posted by APsit190 on 10 February 2024 - 08:26 PM

Hello,

I use the Editor quite a bit.  Is there any way to get functionality similar to the Microsoft programs that copy text format style with the "paint brush" tool?

Another option that would help me a lot is to have a Paragraph Styles (similar to Microsoft products) drop-down that you can select from a populated list of formatting styles (ex. Heading = Arial 14 pt Bold, indented  /  Body = Arial 12 pt / Bible verse = Verdana 12 pt, 2" left margin / etc.).

E-Sword is a great tool, and this is one of my only complaints with it.  I find the existing very time consuming and clunky when I am creating a lesson, as I teach from the Editor and I like it look nice (formatted).

If there's no way to do this within the program, or something similar, I'll post separately as a request for future update.

thanks!

A tool called, "ToolTip Tool NT" (affectionately known as, T4) will do the kind of formatting you are looking for, particularly the "paint brush" thingy. This program is actually designed for the creation of e-Sword resources. And is essentially the "Swiss Pocket Knife" for e-Sword. Click here to download this program.

Stephen (Php 1:21).

#45842 John Gill top.exe for eSword 8 only?

Posted by APsit190 on 25 January 2024 - 02:12 PM

It is a .top file so that does not show in version 13 without conversion to a .topx format.

Easy to do from within e-Sword

In the Topic Notes tab, hold down the Ctrl key, and right-mouse-click in the view, which should bring up a context menu. Select Open, then in the next window where it is asking you to select a file, first change the extension filter from .topx to .top using the dropdown gadget at bottom right. Now your .top files should show up. Select your file and it will be converted.

The saying goes, "One Picture is better than a thousand words," or something similar to that. Well if that is true, then how much better is a video that shows exactly what Jon has shared.

So, with that, here's a video that will demonstrate exactly and to the point what Jon has shared.

Converting the old .top files in e-Sword

#45166 JW's New World Translation

Posted by APsit190 on 04 October 2023 - 02:44 PM

Ok now I am confused, I thought there was something on this site that had a download for the JW's "bible".  I am sorry I was so mistaken.  It's kind of a relief because I'm not the type to study another religion, not at all in depth anyway.

There is a section in the study of theology called "Apologetics,"  which means, "to give an account, a defense." Those who are students who study Apologetics, and who are Apologists have and use resources of all types so that they are able to counter false claims and etc. And this includes Jehovah Witnesses, Mormons, and etc.

Therefore, those wishing to have resources such as the NWT (New World Translation) Bible basically have a resource which they use, and as such can be used against them to the extent that it can be used to refute their (JWs) claims, etc.

With that said, there are copies of the NWT Bible for e-Sword floating around, but none on this site because of the policies of the owner of this site. I'm one of those who does have a copy of this "translation" (if one can call it that with a straight face) of the Bible both on my PC and phone.

Trust you find this helpful.

#45136 How to Make e-Sword Modules - ToolTip NT User's Guide - .94 / Revision 2/...

Posted by APsit190 on 29 September 2023 - 03:47 PM

In my opinion, the most important thing that T4 can do is to create either .RTF or .HTML SQLite database modules from various forms of text, while conforming to the SQLite database structure required by e-Sword.

In my opinion, the second most important thing that T4 can do is read in an existing e-Sword SQLite database module in .RTF format (or .HTML format) and convert the information so it can be edited if desired and eventually output to a SQLite database e-Sword module in .HTML format (or .RTF format).

ElderB

Its not so much that T4 can "convert" an rtf to html, but rather it exports it. And that is where there is an actual massive difference between converting and exporting from one format to another lies.

For example, Rick Meyers' e-Sword  PC Module Converter tool actually converts an rtf file to html. With that said, there is a massive downside to this tool, which is that it strips font types, size, and styles. As where by exporting, T4 maintains (or keeps) font types, size, and styles.

Moreover, when creating, e.g., an refi file from scratch in T4, the type of font, e.g., Times Roman, size, e.g, 14pts, and styles, e.g., Headers, Subscripts, Superscripts, Foot or End Notes and etc, are all kept when exporting the project to an SQLite Database file for e-Sword.

Trust that you find this information helpful.

#45025 The file TX27_WND.DLL has not been found. (Code: 0x000000c1)

Posted by APsit190 on 10 September 2023 - 04:42 PM

Just now i uninstalled every file that had anything to do with e-sword and reinstalled. Same code. I am running windows 11, does that make difference?

If my guess is right, three things you didn't do:

  • Download and installed CCleaner.
  • Using that tool, cleaned your registry
  • Rebooted your computer
  • Then reinstalled e-Sword.

Sorry, my bad, four things you didn't do.

The reason for cleaning the Windows Registry is so the TX27_WND.DLL is erased. And the reason for rebooting your computer is so that everything that your RAM (Random Access Memory) has been cleared, and there now no mention of that corrupt TX27_WND.DLL file.

#44976 Failed download

Posted by APsit190 on 03 September 2023 - 06:56 PM

I bought the "New American Standard Bible Study Set" back in 2009. I am installing a new computer and currently busy with e-sword. When i tried to download this set the Password/Security key was rejected. The e-mail address at the time had now been out of action for 13 years. I entered the key 4 times,  but each time it was rejected by Lockmans. This is a strange occurrence. Recently i did as clean install of Win 10 on my old computer and registration of the ASB installed without a problem.

All my other modules have installed correctly.

Can anyone help me on this one?

Thanks

john coombes

Hi John,

Do a "Forgot Password" at your Lockman account, and enter in a new password. Alternatively, I trust you have a copy of all your e-Sword resource files, including the NASB. If so, without the need to install, simply move all of your on a USB device, and then copy them onto your new machine.

Blessings,

Stephen (Php 1:21)

#44874 LASB Personality Profiles for PC?

Posted by APsit190 on 15 August 2023 - 05:30 PM

LASB = Life Application Study Bible Notes for e-Sword - available as a Premium download from eStudySource. From the eStudySource website, we are informed of various parameters. NOTE: This module includes the NOTES only, and does NOT include the text of the Bible. NOTE: It may be used with the e-Sword translation of your choice. NOTE: This is a Commentary module, with some Reference content. eStudySource provides the following instruction:
Click on the Reference Books tab and then on the pull down menu to see Personality Profiles listed there.
Over 10,000 Notes spanning the Bible text. Personality Profiles of over 100 key Bible figures. Each profile contains a biographical sketch; a key lesson from that person’s life; and lists of that person’s strengths, accomplishments, weaknesses, and mistakes.
Reference: https:// estudysource.com/product/C0011/life-application-study-bible-notes-for-e-sword
LINK: https://estudysource...tes-for-e-sword

HOW TO ACCESS THIS FROM e-SWORD: from the option "Download", look in the "Commentaries" section, "English" "Premium", Life Application Notes. Life Application Study Bible Notes. Copyright © 1988, 1989, 1991, 1993, 1996, 2004 by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc. All rights reserved. Used by Permission. You will see details in the "Info" column. Then use the integrated e-Sword Module Downloader and select [click-on] the Title "Life Application Study Bible Notes" and provide your e-Mail Address, the Product key, and select Validate. If tested okay, then installation will proceed to your device.
Alternatively, first select "Purchase from eStudySource" button. As clearly instructed by Rick Meyers on screen, "This "locked" module must be purchased from its publisher. They will then provide the "Product Key" needed for installation.
This is the first forum entry that links the abbreviation "LASB" with "Life Application Study Bible", anywhere on the Bible Support website. This entry will be found categoriesed among the entries in the "Tutorials" section of Bible Support website.

Now, that is a huge improvement from from what you said before:

#44866 LASB Personality Profiles for PC?

Posted by APsit190 on 14 August 2023 - 06:27 PM

The one thing about the e-Sword edition of the Life Application Study Notes, is that it is translation neutral; as in totally translation neutral. You can't even get it more neutral than that. One beaut thing about it, is that (on e-Sword) it works with every translation you might have your 'puter, and it doesn't matter what it is. And dare I say it: it even works with the JW's NWT thingy. True, it does. It really, really, really, really, really, really does. :lol: (Actually, me thinketh that it might be an idea not to thingy with the NWT thingy).

Well, that was s good jaunt in the park.'

#44856 Harmony of Gospels - Robertson on Android?

Posted by APsit190 on 13 August 2023 - 09:27 PM

I think this Harmony feature is not built into the phone versions only tablet versions.

On that note, Jon is 101% correct. Not any more, and neither any less than that, Period!

Check video below for all the evidence regurgitating (oops, I mean regarding) that. :D :P

#44836 NEWS e-Sword Bible Study For Android

Posted by APsit190 on 08 August 2023 - 06:14 PM

e-Sword Bible Study to Go for Android Version 6.5 released 2022-01-13 and updated 2023-08-03

Olaf,

e-Sword Version 6.5 was not released on the 13/01/2022. Version 1.00 was! Version 6.5 is the update, of which was released (or published) on 03/08/23.

To show how "Versioning" and updates of software (apps) is done, see examples below:

Example #1: The Project Information in Code Editor of Visual Studio:

#region Project Information
/// <summary>
/// Required standard project information
/// </summary>
/*  Project:                     e-Sword CD/DVD Installer Menu
    Purpose:                   To install e-Sword and its resources
    App File Name:         ESM64.exe
    Version:                    1.00
    Creation Date:         18th July 2007
    Revised Version:      7.00
    Revision Date:         17th July 2023
    Programmers:          Stephen Jovanovic
    Location:                  Christchurch, New Zealand
    Copyright:                © Stephen Jovanovic 2009 - 2023. All rights reserved*/
#endregion

Example #2: Assembly Information of the App taken from the AssembyInfo.cs file:

using System.Reflection;
using System.Runtime.CompilerServices;
using System.Runtime.InteropServices;

// General Information about an assembly is controlled through the following
// set of attributes. Change these attribute values to modify the information
// associated with an assembly.
[assembly: AssemblyTitle("ESM64")]
[assembly: AssemblyDescription("")]
[assembly: AssemblyConfiguration("")]
[assembly: AssemblyCompany("")]
[assembly: AssemblyProduct("ESM64")]
[assembly: AssemblyCopyright("Copyright © 2022")]
[assembly: AssemblyTrademark("Stephen Jovanovic")]
[assembly: AssemblyCulture("")]

// Setting ComVisible to false makes the types in this assembly not visible
// to COM components.  If you need to access a type in this assembly from
// COM, set the ComVisible attribute to true on that type.
[assembly: ComVisible(false)]

// The following GUID is for the ID of the typelib if this project is exposed to COM
[assembly: Guid("491f5862-3825-46b4-b674-d3a013aa07f7")]

// Version information for an assembly consists of the following four values:
//
//      Major Version
//      Minor Version
//      Build Number
//      Revision
//
// You can specify all the values or you can default the Build and Revision Numbers
// by using the '*' as shown below:
// [assembly: AssemblyVersion("1.0.*")]
[assembly: AssemblyVersion("7.0.0.0")]
[assembly: AssemblyFileVersion("7.0.0.0")]

About 35% of the Assembly Information can be seen in the Application's Properties Dialog:

e-Sword Menu Installer Properties' Information

ESM Properties.jpg

All the information you see in Example #1 gives the historicity of the project/program. The information you see in Example #2 is auto-generated by (in this case) Visual Studio Programming IDE (Integrated Development Environment) and edited by the Programmer).

e-Sword version 6.5 (Android Edition) is the updated version, which was (as mentioned a moment ago) released (or published) on 03/08/23, and was not released, as you put it, on the 13/01/2022. That, Olaf, is both misleading and incorrect information. Sorry to have to tell you that. When it comes to information on software (apps), you need to show what the actual date is of the updated version is, and not as the original date and version of the first release of the program.

#44811 e-Sword for Android updated August 3, 2023 in the Google Play Store

Posted by APsit190 on 04 August 2023 - 06:02 PM

What's new

Bible searches can now use Regular Expressions! Just wrap the expression in the REGEX() command, for example:
REGEX(\b[Aa]fter\W+(?:\w+\W+){1,6}days\ B)

Bible search results can now be viewed all at once, along with a summary analysis of the results.

Bible search results can now be tagged to one or more categories, essentially saving those results.

Yep, Got it.

#44787 Loss of Format and Style

Posted by APsit190 on 30 July 2023 - 06:11 PM

@ElderB

Everything regarding that file was done in e-Sword. The topx file was converted to an refx file in e-Sword. Then after that, using Rick Meyers' e-Sword Module Converter, I converted that refx file to an refi file. That's it!

What I might do, and see if it works, is to open that topx file in T4, and then save it as an refi file. See what happens.

If it works, great! If it doesn't: Oh well, that was a waste of time sort of thingy.

Blessings,
