I have used e-Sword for a number of years and just recently I noticed that the tab for the NIV Bible that I have used for years was no longer available to me.

I checked in the folder: program files (x86)\esword and the file NIV.bblx is listed as being there.

But the NIV doesn't show up as a tab nor is the NIV listed in the list of Bibles in the Resource Options.

I am using the latest version of e-Sword.

Hopefully someone will have an answer for my problem. Thanks

Hello Charlie,

One reason that premium e sword resources do not show up in the latest release of e sword is if they are not encrypted. Resources that are not encrypted that have the same tab names as the premium resources will not display in the latest release of e sword.

There may be another issue, but this is one possibility.

Blessings,
Peter

Hi Charlie

I've experienced the same thing, and also with NKJV and CJB (there may be more I can't 'see' right now) over the past day or so.

I've had these since I first downloaded e-S, and from memory they weren't always 'premium' products. Not sure the status of thpse downloads before they became 'premium'.

I had switched off my laptop with the e-S program still 'running' so it booted back to that state -- complete with NIV, NKJV etc. However when I exited e-S and re-loaded the program these Bibles disappeared.

Regards

John

The module content is commercially copyrighted and the idea is it should only be distributed in encrypted format. If you originally bought them from eStudySource.com or e-Sword.net, you can return there to download the "proper" version that works with e-Sword. e-Sword will block "improper" versions to avoid copyright infringement.

Your copy may be the once Official "NIV" but of the 1984 edition variety. The current eStudySource version is the new 2011 edition. eStudySource no longer sells the 1984 edition. Both are still under copyright. In order to have both versions available in e-Sword, you must change the tab name of one or both of them. I wrote a tutorial on how to do that, if you need such. It is around here somewhere.

Charlie, a few questions. What version of eSword were you using with this NIV module? The reason I ask is that years ago there used to be a tool for independent module creators whereas they could leech a copy of the Amplified, NIV, etc. Bibles off of the Sword Project Bible software website. From what I understand permission had been granted for a span of time to leech these eText Bibles, but not to distribute them. I believe eSword v7.xx was in use at the time - it was back in 2002 or 03.

Those modules would transfer into the new V9.xx eSword software about a year ago, but perhaps they've crippled that ability now with the new eSword v10.xx. Also, as you might already know, there are some people who've posted 'premium' modules illegally at different sites on the Internet - contrary to Romans 12:21 and 1 Thess 5:22.

I'm not finding the tutorial. Do you have a link? Thanks!

UPDATE: I found it: http://www.biblesupp...urce-tab-names/

I think e-Sword administrators should take into consideration that some users of e-sword prefer the NIV 1984 version, rather than the new one. Can't they find a way to allow us to keep this version?

Yes, you can keep both. You can rename the NIV tab name to NIV-84 in a 3 minute procedure explained here: http://www.biblesupp...urce-tab-names/

If there's a lot of demand for changing the tab names of a resource, I could make a separate utility that does just that. Would be really easy, maybe so easy that e-Sword will have that feature built-in one day.
