Hi everyone, newb question here. I went to download Wilbur Pickering's New Testament and Commentary from this site and there are two different types of files: those ending with "i" and those ending with "x." Can anyone tell what the difference is? I'm assuming I don't need all four.

The Wilpur Pickering modules have the file module names: wpnt.bblx and wpnt.cmtx The text of the Bible is in the Bible Module, (wpnt.bblx) and the associated notes are in the commentary module (wpnt.cmtx).
The e-sword modules created before July 2016 with filename followed by a period and file type with four-letters, having the last letter "x", such as bblx, and cmtx, are designed for e-Sword running on the Microsoft PC running e-Sword version 9.x or 10.x with coding in RTF. The e-Sword modules created after July 2016 may have been coded in HTML. These modules with letter characters coded in HTML codes, and earlier versions coded in RTF codes, will all run successfully on e-Sword for the PC, versions 11, 12, 13.

The Wilpur Pickering modules having the file module names: wpnt.bbli and wpnt.cmti The text of the Bible is in the Bible Module, (wpnt.bbli) and the associated notes are in the commentary module (wpnt.cmti).
These have been coded with the file type having the last fourth letter in the file type "i". These have been coded in HTML.
These also run okay on e-Sword for PC, and running Windows 10 or Windows 11, running from e-Sword version 11.x, 12.x, and 13.x. They work better than the bblx modules, which may be older-type RTF coding, especially when viewing the text in the Bible "compare" view option, and when viewing the text using the Bible "parallel" view option, on e-Sword for the PC.
If you download any file from inside e-Sword, they all have the bblx and cmtx filenames, but if these modules are dated after 2016, they are usually coded by Rick Meyers in HTML.

All the e-Sword modules with file type having four letters, with the fourth letter consisting of the letter "i", such as bbli, (for bible modules), cmti, (for Commentary modules), dcti and lexi (for dictionaries and lexicons), and so on, will run on e-Sword X for the Mac, and on e-Sword HD for the iPad, and on e-Sword LT for the iPhone, and on e-Sword for Android tablets, and for e-Sword for Android mobile devices. These are coded in HTML. The reason why they run on different varieties of e-Sword is because of proprietary internal coding by the manufacturer, which differs from the Microsoft coding, and because of different screen options required because of different widths of screen sizes. Apple and Android devices use touchscreen navigation options. The FEATURES options for the five different varieties of e-Sword are not all the same and are subject to constant enhancements by Rick Meyers.

Please access the developer, Rick Meyers's website, https://www.e-sword.net and select the "About" tag, to read the history of e-Sword development.
The link is to https://www.e-sword.net/history.html

Rick Meyers makes use of SQLite database formats to load the Bibles, Commentaries, Dictionaries, and Lexicons to provide inter-active cross reference access between these different options.

In the future, please advise which URL address you used, and the type of equipment you are running from, to make it easier to try to reverse-engineer your problem.

It seems you just needed an update to explain to you how and why e-Sword file type naming was changed, from the options of wpnt.bblx and the associate module for notes, wpnt.cmtx to the format that had the characters coded in HTML wpnt.bbli and the associated wpnt.cmti.

Select the TRAINING modules, provided by Rock Meyers from https://www.e-sword.net/training.html and work your way systematically through those options. Read the FAQ pages. To select the different types of e-Sword, select the LINKS tab https://www.e-sword.net/links.html and select the relevant version of e-Sword. Then follow all tabs available for that type of e-Sword, for more details. If you encounter a problem, please let us know. Thank you for letting us be of service to you today.

The e-sword modules with filename followed by a period and file type having the last letter "x" is designed for Microsoft PC running e-Sword version 9.x or 10.x with coding in RTF.

All the other modules with filename, and period and file type having the last fourth letter in the file type "i" are coded in HTML, and run on e-Sword for Windows version 11.x, 12.x, and 13.x, and on e-Sword X for the Mac, and on e-Sword HD for the iPad, and on e-Sword LT for the iPhone, and on e-Sword for Android tablets, and for e-Sword for Android mobile devices. These are coded in HTML, and require different varieties of e-Sword because of propriatory screen options and widths of screen sizes.

Please access the developer, Rick Meyers's website, https://www.e-sword.net and select the "About" tag, to read the history of e-Sword development. With regard to what Olaf posted, he missed an important detail regarding the different file extensions used by the different e-Sword platforms, and the missing detail is that word, Default!!!

e-Sword default file extension end with an x, e.g., bblx, cmtx, dctx, etc.

e-Sword X, HT, LT, and Android end with an i, e.g., bbli, cmti, dcti, etc.

So, just because bbli, cmti, and etc can run on e-Sword for Windows doesn't make them the default for that platform. They just a bonus.

An important factor:

When purchasing resources from eStudySource, and when downloading free resources using e-Swords Download Manager, you will download the file made for that for that particular platform. For example, you buy an NKJV Bible for e-Sword X (Mac OS) you will download a NKJV.bbli file.

Still using the same example, but you bought it for your e-Sword for Windows, you will get an NKJV.bblx file.

Now, regarding purchases of resources. If you own an iPhone and an iPad, but you initially bought the NKJV for e-Sword Windows. Guess what?! You only pay once for that resource, and any subsequent download on other devices are free irrespective of the platform.

Trust you find this additional information helpful.

Blessings,

Stephen (Php 1:21).
