I have used E-sword on Windows, but now have a mac, and need to update my operating System so I can install E-swordX. But the module I would like is a better more accurate Brown Driver and Briggs. See that BDB Lexicon was changed to bring it in line with Baptist theology according to The Puritan Forum [I am not a Puritan, was researching something when I came across that info,] I know Logos has a good complete BDB Lexicon, because some one showed me his, but the one in E-sword has been changed to bring it in line with some people's theology. I do not necessarily agree with everything in BDB just as I found a few objectionable things in Thayer -- he was a Unitarian, but want BDB unchanged. I have 2 copies of BDB in Paper and ink books, one with Strong's numbers, one being a 1905 first edition, and they are different.
Look up the Hebrew word translated as "determined" in Daniel 9:24. One man, Athol Tolhurst, looked this word up in 17 Hebrew Lexicons/Dictionaries. Fifteen of these gave "Cut off" as the meaning as does the unchanged BDB. But the E-sword version, done by these Baptist theologians changed its meaning.
Changing its meaning might suit their PERSONAL theology better, but that is not the way to do it.
the two Hebrew Lexicons/Dictionaries that did not change its meaning were "The Pocket Hebrew dictionary" & "The Concise Hebrew Dictionary." I have a copy of this first one that I purchased second hand cheap, and I looked up the other on the shelf of a Christian bookshop. Both five just a one word definition "DETERMINED" the word used in the King James Version.
Many Extrabiblical sources also use this Hebrew word that only appears once in the KJV Bible to mean "Cut OFF."
Another word BDB has changed is AZAZEL [translated "Scapegoat"] in Leviticus 16:8 and later in Leviticus 16. See BDB originally gave a possible meaning of this as a Demon. The 1771AD First Edition Encyclopaedia Britannica also defines this as meaning Devil, as did every Early Church Father prior to Bishop Cyril of Alexandria, died 444AD. Cyril bought the Inquisition against those Pre-reformation Protestants who disagreed with him.
I have 8 Hebrew Lexicons in paper and ink book form -- include Wigram's Hebrew Concordance.
So please give us an unchanged BDB Hebrew Lexicon. I cannot afford a copy of Logos to get the unchanged BDB.
Thank you for you excellent Website.
