Is there an easier way to do this yet? Could this not be linked with a sign in account?

Not that I am aware of.

 

To "sync" from one machine to another using the same program (software) like e-Sword requires a "network" of one kind or another. Irrespective of what type of network it is, the central machine that is required to have the data on it, is the "Server." Whether its a LAN (Local Area Network) or a WAN (Wide Area Network) is irrelevant. Not only that, what type of device, whether its portable (Laptop, Smartphone, or Tablet) or fixed (Desktop PC) has to be connected to the to whatever server is used. Syncing (synchronising) data between devices is done through a server because the data has to be stored somewhere central. That has always been the case, and its something that one cannot escape.

 

Networking is not my strong suite, and I'm only going on extremely basic stuff. I'm a programmer (retired), and that is where I am at. That said, I use the Cloud to sync my devices, and is extremely the most convenient method there is because by that cloud service I can share and sync files between both Android and Windows devices, and I don't have to worry about compatibility issues. The devices I have and use:

• Windows Desktop PC and Laptop
• Samsung Android Galaxy Phone and Tablet.

All devices are connected to that one cloud server, and files are then "automatically" shared across all devices without having to set them up individually to be able to "talk" to each other. And to be honest, you can't get it to be any simpler than that.

Where does the E-Sword HD an LT save the files if X, LT, HD all had a central saved zone then they would sync. Offering us the ability if we would like it would be nice.

If not on the cloud, on the individual devices.

 

Apple has a cloud service called iCloud of which 5GB is free upon sign-up. Anything more than that you have to pay for.

Does eSword have the same sync functionality as for example "Olive Tree" and "Logos". The straight answer is NO. The "cloud" is a workaround, not a built-in function.

 

What the so-called "Built in function" does, is it places the files on a server, which means that they are not stored locally on the individual devices.

 

You see, irrespective of how the synchronization is done, it requires the resources to be stored on a central file server. So, for software that has this Sync Button, all that does is it sends the file to that server so that your other devices which uses that same program can access those files. In reality it is not different to one storing resource files on a Cloud server, and then setting e-Sword to load and save files on that server. And if there is a difference, its simply one does the work for you, and with the other, you got to do it yourself. And that's it. Beyond that there is no difference whatsoever, and how one does the synchronization is irrelevant.

 

This took 12 months to the date, to respond. Amazing!!!

For anyone who wants to go down that route gotta be a glutton for punishment with a 10 mile wide masochistic streak.

 

That said, As I looked at the built in sync vs the cloud thingy. The Build in one is done by the company that provides it in the program, is extremely limited due to the fact of no access to a file management system; such as to have the ability to create folders and etc on that provider's server. But as, e.g., Dropbox (the service I use), gives full access to one's files, giving the ability to following:

1. Create files on the cloud


2. Delete, copy, and move files


3. Creating and Deleting Folders


4. Ability to work with files from Windows file management system by having a "Cloud container" in that system (Windows Explorer).

Plus a raft of other file management capabilities, including security.

 

So, in my judgement using a Cloud system for syncing data tends to be far better than the built-in one.

I really hope E-Sword X, E-Sword HD and E-Sword Lite start syncing in the future. While E-Sword (Apple Versions) is still my number one used it would be so much better if it synced. They sync feature on Apple Products is what makes Apple Products so great. Please add especially with iPad no going to work on BigSur too.

I am caught up in a muddle in that I have no idea on how to synchronize my E-Sword data on my android cell phone onto an android tablet. The primary is the cell-phone whilst the secondary device is an android tablet. The data includes my study notes, bookmarks, highlights and etcetera. Please assist me in this matter.

If it were me, I would use Google Drive as a central location to sync files from, and then I would use my preferred Android file manager app to verify that files ended up where I needed them to.  It would be somewhat similar to the setting up a new Windows computer process instructions (see below) that I found on the e-Sword web site (but for Android): 

 

 

HOW CAN I MOVE MY E-SWORD TO A NEW COMPUTER?

Select "Options, Resource Settings" from the e-Sword menu and take note of the "Resource Location" and "User Files Location" paths.

 

Copy the e-Sword modules from the "Resource Location" directory, such as BBLX, CMTX, DCTX, DEVX, LEXX, MAPX, and REFX files.

 

Copy ALL of the files from the "User Files Location" directory to get your personal notes and other customizations transferred.

 

You will still need to install e-Sword from its setup program to properly install the various system files, etc.

I've been trying to find in the "guide" for e-sword, whether or not when I sync to another device, my contents in E-sword, does that include purchased items like my NKJV, and the modules I'd like to add that might also be paid?  I am learning to sync but I only, so far, don't see the mention of syncing purchased products.  In other words, I, for example payed 14.99 for the NKJV.  I don't wish to pay another 14.99 to have that bible show up in my Bible List.  The Android version of the NKJV is the same price btw, which I'm sure many have discovered.  I have not beef about this unless I only have to pay once to have purchased items on my 2 devices.  I'm just using my main PC & a Kindle which I'm able to have E-Sword on that as well.

 

Thanks for any links to "how-to" I haven't found, or just any info you want to share with me.
