I have used e-Sword for years and love it. After upgrading to v.13.0 I have found the programmer to be endued with more patience than I.  It now takes more than 1.5 minutes to start with no indication it is about to appear. I have tried every tip i can find but it is still like God, it changes not. Help!

Ok, if you could either do a screen recording (a video), or use your phone camera to record a video of what you are doing and what is actually happening, and upload it on here would be very helpful, I think we just might be stabbing in the dark. By the way, when doing that screen recording or a video, comment on it in what you are doing and what is happening.

At the moment, without knowing what is going on, my guess would be it could be a RAM issue. But, like I said, its just a guess.

You need to have Windows Media Player installed and active on your PC for e-Sword 13 to work correctly

Windows Media Player is installed.  Note, v. 10, v.11 and v.12 all started and displayed the logo within seconds. The sequence of events:

Turn computer on and log in, about 60 sec. Wait until virus checks and housekeeping to finish about 45 seconds. D-click e-Sword icon, 65 sec. later e-Sword square appears, 10 to 15 seconds later program loads and works perfectly and fast.

Never had this problem until upgrading to v. 13.  It seems to be looking for, or unpacking modules, topics, notes or some other resources. Today I will try moving all resources from documents, e-Sword folder to programs, e-sword folder and see if that speeds up loading. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. RDG

Make sure Windows Media Player is active not just installed, e-Sword 13 needs it to be active in order to work correctly

Results: D-click e-Sword icon, within 5 sec. square with copyright notice appears,15 sec. later program is up and running perfectly.

Conclusions: There were 7 old files in my old documents, e-Sword folder that were slowing down v. 13. When these files were replaced with the files in the new version e-Sword is back to its old self. I don't have time today to search and list these files. Thanks for the help.

Back to the drawing board!

The fix only lasted until I rebooted the next day. The next day starting e-Sword took a full 1 minute and 25 seconds to start with the copywrite square appearing after the first minute and 6 seconds. I tryed going back to versions 12 with the same problem now. E-sword works fine after it finishes loading. I give up!

Recently, as in today, I got an interest article from Ars Technica regarding Microsoft Media Player. Click here to read the article.

I may be retired, but I certainly keep myself up-to-date on the IT front. I'm also looking at starting to do some Gaming Development. All good fun.

Excellent outcome!! you showed good judgement in what could have been wrong. It would be good to know what was wrong with the files/how they got corrupted.

Wouldn't an open source T4 replacement be a more useful project to invest your retirement time in?

Maybe one that could run on both Windows and macOS?

Hi Jon,
Yeah well, I wouldn't know where to begin apart from the start, and would need a lot of help with it syntax/code wise.

That said, I made a suggestion on this site for a pro edition of e-Sword which would incorporate the T4 capabilities in it. I actually think that this is really the way to go rather than having a third party tool which could end up being unable to be kept up to date and supported for some reason or another, such as what happened to T4. And so I'm sort of extremely apprehensive of wanting to start a project of this nature irrespective and despite of the complexity of creating such a program.

So, your thoughts a really welcome on this.

Blessings,

Stephen (Php 1:21).
