#28176 How to type plain text after a hyperlink

Posted by Roy on 12 July 2016 - 05:23 PM

One of the missing posts that Josh mentioned must have been one that B.H. had made.

In it he suggested using ToolTipNT to remove the links.

That fantastic tool can strip out the hyperlinks.

Just copy the text from the e-Sword editor and paste it into ToolTip-NT.

Use the [Delete] Button in the Hyperlinks section. Viola! Gone!

Then copy and paste back to e-Sword.

Use the newest version of ToolTip-NT.

#28155 Premium Baker's New Testament Commentary

Posted by Roy on 08 July 2016 - 05:26 PM

Usually, scriptures fail to pop up because the bible version you have selected does not contain them.

example - I am hovering over an OT link but the bible I have selected is NT only.

-or-

the default tool-tip translation I have set e-Sword up to use fits the same bill. I chose a translation that does not cover the verses that the tool-tip points to.

If none of this applies to you, can you give a few examples? I'll gladly check in mine to see if the links work.

The Darby version is available as an Official Download from within e-Sword itself.

#27946 Someone Elses Notes

Posted by Roy on 11 June 2016 - 12:33 PM

Hello,

If all you did was click on the file name from the windows browser.... that is all that will happen.

It will open e-Sword but not the note file.

Earl is correct. You can only have one MAIN notes file of each type so rename your husbands file so you can access it.

To find out where your copy of e-Sword is storing the notes files From the Main Menu go to Options > Resource.

options-resource.png

and then look at the bottom of the dialog... you will see where e-Sword stores the files.

file locations.png

Method 1)

Use the drop-down located at the bottom of the Editor window to access the file.

If you copied it to e-Swords default location the file will be in that list.

Select study notes.png

this will be the easiest way.

If per chance the file does not show in the list use method 2.

Method 2

The way to open it is open the editor in e-Sword for the type of note file it is.

Journal - Study - or Topic.

Press and hold the CTRL key and right click in the editor window.

a menu will pop up - choose Open

open file dialog.png

the file browser window will open for you to find the file you want.

Select file dialog.png

Most likely it will start browsing some place like

"C:\Users\your user name here\Documents\e-Sword"

Just navigate to where you put his note file.

You should be able to open his notes in this manner.

Either one will work. You will need / want to switch back to your regular notes file when you are finished.

WAY TOO NEW... under copyright, so unless you can get a commercial provider to do the book "For Sale" you will not likely fine it.

#26573 Convert e-Sword Bible to The Word - advice sought

Posted by Roy on 11 December 2015 - 11:25 PM

theWORD bible files are nothing more than regular ascii text files, one line per verse and only one line per verse.

All you need to do is open your bible in e-Sword.

Export each range of verses (you should be able to do an entire book at one time) to a text editor.

Edit out the Book-Chapter-verse info, it will not be needed.

If the Bible is both OT and NT give the file an extension of .ont

Copy the file to the correct directory.

Your done!

P.S. There are from Gen 1:1 to Rev 22:21 EXACTLY 31102 lines, one for each verse.

Gen 1:1 is line 1 and Rev 22:21 is line 31102.

#26484 Have you seen the New Amplified Bible Module?

Posted by Roy on 24 November 2015 - 09:40 PM

Hey Gang,

I just noticed yesterday that there is a new version of the Amplified Bible available from Lockman through the Downloads menu in e-Sword!

There are now 4 versions. AMP and AMP+. Both of these are 2015 versions with the plus (+) version having pop-up notes in the Bible text (just like the NASB).

They also have the original version and a plus version of that as well (AMPC amd AMPC+) refered to as classic.

All four seem to be available at one price. I did not see any thing that mentioned a discount for already owning the original (now classic) version.

While I have the original (classic) version, what I have never had was any kind of translators notes with it (in line or as a commentary module).

I went ahead and picked up the new version. The text is updated and the 2015 version appears to have more note links in it over the classic version.

Just thought you might like to know.

#26234 KJV Margin Notes as a Bible?

Posted by Roy on 21 October 2015 - 05:24 PM

JPG,

Thank You! for the heads up. I should have done my due diligence and checked my output much more closely (missing multiple verse notes should NOT have been overlooked!).

I'll pull the file and start working on the fix!

Brad,

I'll also make any corrections that I am aware of.  I will put a list of changed items in the "About" description, assuming the list isn't too long :)

Thank you every one.

#26200 KJV Margin Notes as a Bible?

Posted by Roy on 18 October 2015 - 10:55 PM

Hi All.

I was thinking recently (dangerous for me, I know!) and had an idea.

I wanted to do a proof of concept before tackling the larger project so here is my test project.

I took the KJV Margin Notes Commentary and converted it to a Bible module. Why?

I want to see the scripture with comments displayed directly next to the verse text just as you would see it in a printed Bible.

The Margin Notes made a good choice for me as a test file since it is a Commentary and already in B.C.V. format. It is also somewhat small, so there was not a lot of text to edit.

How I would get the text directly next to the Bible verse is using the Parallel Bible mode and choosing the KJV *and* The Margin Notes Bible as my Bibles.

So, why not just use the Commentary as is?

First, I want the text *Next To* the verse, and I would like to see more than one note at a time (if they exist).

Second, I also did not want the Commentary window "taken up" by the margin notes but free to display a different commentary. This will do just exactly that (see pic # 2).

You could do this with *any* resource that is (or can be put into) a B.C.V. format, lets say maybe C.I. Scofields Notes??

So what is my real target to make into a Bible module like this? I want to see a Thompson Chain Reference Bible with "REAL" margin notes next to the associated verse.

I know this would be a long, drawn out project, but I just might take it on. (I had started a project like this for theWORD but dropped it.)

I am putting the Bible module here with this post. Please take a look and let me know what you think. If it seems good enough I can make a regular DownLoads posting of it a little later.

Thanks!

Roy

#24653 PLEASE Develop e-Sword for Linux !!! Post here if you want it.

Posted by Roy on 10 April 2015 - 03:18 PM

Here is a "Guess" and I do NOT speak for Rick Meyers... If by develop for LINUX you mean an open source version (in the true sense where you can get/view the source code) I highly doubt it would ever happen. (Maybe a BSD style license where source code can be kept hidden...) There is code in the application related to decrypting commercial resources (paid for books) that would need/have to be kept confidential.

Open sourcing e-Sword would necessitate revealing that code, and would likely violate agreements Brother Rick most likely has with the publishers of said resources requiring him to keep that code confidential.

Developing a LINUX version would also require maintaining another code base. Whenever updates/features are needed (or desired)  that would add to the work/man hours required to implement those changes.

I think your best bet is to use an application native to the OS (maybe the Sword Project) and convert resources as you need them.

Overall, the more platforms you have to support, the less time you have to devote to each , consequently you see the overall quality start to fail.

Just my two cents.....

#24618 thinking about mobile device purchase

Posted by Roy on 08 April 2015 - 05:03 AM

"IF" you go for a Windows unit, make ABSOLUTELY SURE it is NOT running The RT version of Windows. e-Sword will NOT run on that version!!!

(The last I heard anyway! I could easily be all wet on this one  )

#24184 versions 8 and 10

Posted by Roy on 03 March 2015 - 04:38 PM

Hi

Simply being a version 8 module would not prevent it from downloading, as you use your web browser to do that. However, being a version 8 module also means it WILL NOT work in e-Sword 10. Just for the fun of it, I downloaded version 8 and tried to run it through a converter program. No luck as the original database file is password protected.

Now, just that module is not available for version 10, but, it is available as part of a collected works module.

See here to read about it.

Hope this helps,
