#24172 Collaborative Commentary on BIBLE from BIBLE Support Group

Posted by Roy on 02 March 2015 - 04:46 PM

Hey Brother,

I have to admit, my first response was pretty much the same as that from APsit190. Great idea but it will never work. Then, I remembered something my pastor said just yesterday. He was telling the story of when he went into the office of his church's accountant (my pastor was new there at the time) and asked if the accountant thought that the church could become debt free within three years. The man replied "NO Way, Not a chance". My Pastor said he turned around and walked out of the office without saying anything else. He related that he was very disappointed with the mans response. Long story short, by believing God would supply, they did become debt free in that three years! (PTL!!).  My point is, if God is in it, then ANYTHING is possible, regardless of what we think the outcome may be.

Regarding the differing interpretations on certain scriptures/doctrines, we could simply include each of them as representative of those denominations, etc. Simply present the case for each interpretation without saying "we are right and you are wrong" but instead saying "This is what we think this is what the Bible is saying here, and why".

Anyway, just my two cents.

Hi,

Just asking to make sure..... Did you have any text selected (highlighted) before invoking the right-click menu? Most of those menu choices would only become active if text were selected first (you did not indicate you had selected any text first).

#23446 How do I get unconverted commentary off ipad?

Posted by Roy on 26 December 2014 - 01:44 PM

Oakleaf1,

Look for an application called iFunBox. Find it here http://www.i-funbox.com/

It is a windows file manager for your iPad.

It has been discussed several times here on BibleSuport.com.

You can search the forums here and read the comments on the app and its' use.

(When/If you do search here, make sure that you change the search target to 'Forums'. It defaults to 'Downloads' -or- 'This topic' depending on where you start the search from. I always forget to change it :))

Hope that helps.

Thank You Josh!!

I just tried your "Fun"  :D  fix and it worked like a charm!

Thank  you for taking the time to figure that out. I would have been chasin' my tail for a few more hours trying to make iTunes work. (It just has to work. I gotta be doing something wrong!) Right?

Blessings to you and yours.... now give that iPad back to the kids o they can play some more :)

I see that Patch beat me to it... :)  but since I sent the PDF through Abby I figured I would share it anyway. I did not edit it (except for one edit on page 1) so it isn't very pretty.

The zip includes the PDF.

#20594 EWB-CB bible & Dictionary

Posted by Roy on 27 February 2014 - 12:30 AM

Ok Lets try this again..... Info this time for mySword.... :)

Commentary Link
http://www.biblesupp...ysword-version/
File name: Bullinger - CBNotes.cmt.zip (CBNotes.cmt.mybible)
Tab Name: CBN

Dictionary Link:
http://www.biblesupp...ysword-version/
File Name: CBAPP.dct.mybible (CBAPP.dct.mybible)
Tab Name: Bullinger-APCompanionBible

Bible Link:
http://www.biblesupp...ysword-version/
File Name: ewbullingercompanionbible.bbl.mybible (ewbullingercompanionbible.bbl.mybible)
Tab Name: EWB-CB

You said....

"I had come across the dictionary version of this and downloaded it and found the commentaries very good...."

did you mean the comments IN the dictionary?

There is also a Commentary file, which happens to list the appropriate areas in the dictionary to read.
The links in the commentary -> to -> the dictionary entry are what do not currently work.

So.... you can have the bible open and go to a verse. The commentary WILL follow you to its entry for that verse.

Switch to the commentary, read it's entry. You will see there in the text a mention of App-1 or maybe App-5 (that is, IF an entry exists in the dictionary. And that is what you want to know, correct?).

Just switch to the dictionary and do a search on the numeric part. i.e. search for 1 when you see App-1 or 5 when you see App-5. This WILL take you to the appropriate dictionary entry.

By the way, do NOT do your search using the magnifying glass button!
You will see a row of buttons at the top of your screen.

Left most if the resource that is currently displayed. "Dict" for dictionary.
Next is the Dictionary name: "Bullinger-ApCompanionBible"
Next is a Left Arrow
Next is the topic being displayed from the dictionary.
THAT is what you want to press.
Enter the number portion from the commentary entry (App-14 = 14)
Mysword will start showing all entries that start with "14"
Just select the correct one.

Is that better brother? :)

Roy

The picture is from the MySword site. It is not showing the dictionary screen but you can see the location of the button (#6) to use to do your search.

#20572 EWB-CB bible & Dictionary

Posted by Roy on 25 February 2014 - 01:15 AM

Hi Jeff,

Bible Tab name               EWB-CB

Dictionary Tab Name       CB-App

Commentary  Tab Name  CBNotes

Link to the Bible

http://www.biblesupp...bible-1909bblx/

Link to the Dictionary & Commentary (They come in the same download)

http://www.biblesupp...s-and-graphics/

Now, please forgive me if you know all of the following but I do not want to assume anything.

1) You need to have each resource pulled up in their respective windows.

2) You need to make sure that both the dictionary and commentary have the "Synchronize" button turned ON (the button with the chain on it)

3) In the Bible window, go to Gen 1:1

4) the commentary "should" automatically go to the entry for Gen 1:1

5) In the commentary you will see text in Green which is underlined. like this. App-4.

That text is a "Word" which has an entry in the dictionary. That entry is the associated appendix. In this case Appendix 4.

Step #2 could very likely be your issue.

I hope this helps, and again, please forgive me if you have done/know all of this.

#20529 automation error

Posted by Roy on 21 February 2014 - 12:09 AM

Duke,

Have you tried doing a Google search on the error message?

I just did and found a "whole bunch" of hits on the search.

They mostly seem to point to either needing an update on the OS from Micro-Soft -or- there are missing / mis-placed config files. I know this may not apply to e-sword but I would try looking here before giving u p (it's worth a shot!)

This specific one may help as it applies to apps developed in VB.

Good luck & God bless.

#20474 Barclays commentary

Posted by Roy on 15 February 2014 - 11:37 PM

.....

I usually prepare my teaching lessons verse byverse. When I started using the 'Notes Editor' I soon learned that it was linked to a single verse and in order to address a chapter, one verse at a time I would have to use my external word processor (Open Office Org) to cut and paste my 'Notes' comments, one verse at a time into the word processor.

Oh well I will get off of here.............still happy..........again thanks

Hi John,

e-Sword actually has three (3) editors in it.

1) Journal Notes

2) Study Notes (What you are most likely using)

3) Topic Notes.

Journal notes are "Date" based. Just like keeping a hand written journal.

The study notes "do" work on a verse-by-verse basis. This allows you to make something like your own commentary and have those notes automaticly sync with what ever verse you have selected in your Bible window.

But the Topic Notes.... This is where you would want to do your lesson notes. You can put just about anything here, and you are not tied to a single verse. The topic title could be set to the lesson date (Hey, since it's by Date, you could also use the Journal editor B) ) or the lesson's theme. Again, it's your choice.

The point is, you don't "Have to" use an external editor.

#20315 KJC Dictionary - multiple English words for one Greek word

Posted by Roy on 01 February 2014 - 12:55 PM

Hi,

I am assuming that you want to find "all" the verses that use the word (let's just pick one at random) that has been translated as 'beginning', as in John 1:1.

and then find "ALL" the other verses that use that same Greek word (In this case - G746 ἀρχή archē), and see how those were translated and what English words were used?

1) Have the KJV+ bible pulled up (KJV with Strongs)

2) Go to the verse that has the target word in it (John 1:1)

3) right click on the strong's number (G746) and select quick search -> entire bible

4) A search dialog box will open up. Add the search results (1st little icon in a group of 5, upper right) to a verse list (give the list an appropriate name, in this case "G746 verse list")

5) Close the search dialog window. In the bible window, choose the bible version that you want your WORD document to display (Maybe KJV without the strongs)

6) Select "Bible - Verse list" from the main menu

7) Select your just saved list from the drop down selection

8) Select the copy search results icon

9) The copy verse dialog opens. Choose the Verse formatting you want and then choose copy (This will send the verses to the clip board)

10) Open WORD and paste.....

Hopefully this will give you what you want

First and foremost, thank you brother for all of your hard work. I look forward to using this resource.

Now the oops... part, the exe download option does not function.

When choosing to download the exe file I get an error message,

Sorry, we couldn't find that!

We could not find the file specified

The other options do seem to work, so I pulled the zip file.

Again, THANK YOU!

#17979 Annoying Chat Room popups

Posted by Roy on 24 July 2013 - 10:26 PM

Try this,

The lower right of your screen (browser window) has a little gear icon.

Left click it.

Check mark the box "Disable Pop-Ups.

You can also select "Not Available" but that choice never seems to "Stick" for me.

Maybe this well help.
