I have my late husband's E Sword .notx etc. in my documents where my own .notx etc. are stored. I have attempted to open his notes with esword.exe from that place. It opens the programme but not his work. Is it because his own ESword download is on his own computer that is packed away in storage for a month or so. I would have thought that with the proper extensions his notes would open on any ESword.

Similarly if I open .topx from my documents it simply opens ESword to the last place I was at.

If I move my husbands .notx into ESword under program files would that work? I don't want to do it without asking in case I muck things up on my computer.

I would love to have his work on my ESword.

Thanks Ethel

In all honesty, I ask far more questions than I answer here, but I'm thinking there can only be [one] study.notx file on a PC. And it should reside in the Documents\e-Sword folder.

Another thought: Are both e-Sword installations the same version?

More knowledgeable users will hopefully respond before long. :-)

Hello,

If all you did was click on the file name from the windows browser.... that is all that will happen.

It will open e-Sword but not the note file.

Earl is correct. You can only have one MAIN notes file of each type so rename your husbands file so you can access it.

To find out where your copy of e-Sword is storing the notes files From the Main Menu go to Options > Resource.

Attached File  options-resource.png   21.49K   2 downloads

and then look at the bottom of the dialog... you will see where e-Sword stores the files.

Attached File  file locations.png   72.78K   5 downloads

Method 1)

Use the drop-down located at the bottom of the Editor window to access the file.

If you copied it to e-Swords default location the file will be in that list.

Attached File  Select study notes.png   17.04K   6 downloads

this will be the easiest way.

If per chance the file does not show in the list use method 2.

Method 2

The way to open it is open the editor in e-Sword for the type of note file it is.

Journal - Study - or Topic.

Press and hold the CTRL key and right click in the editor window.

a menu will pop up - choose Open

Attached File  open file dialog.png   3.03K   3 downloads

the file browser window will open for you to find the file you want.

Attached File  Select file dialog.png   159.26K   2 downloads

Most likely it will start browsing some place like

"C:\Users\your user name here\Documents\e-Sword"

Just navigate to where you put his note file.

You should be able to open his notes in this manner.

Either one will work. You will need / want to switch back to your regular notes file when you are finished.
