Some of you have asked about using the Sermon Illustrations feature in e-Sword. You know me, I run way behind on writing tutorials and documenting these things.

By default, this feature is greyed out. You can buy a database of 4,000 sermon illustrations from e-Sword.net.

But what if you want to make your own?

1. Copy this file to your e-Sword installation folder. Depending on your version of Windows, this folder is:

C:\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword

-OR-

C:\Program Files\e-sword

Attached File  illustrations.illx   3K   505 downloads

2. Restart e-Sword. Click Tools > Sermon Illustrations in e-Sword to use this feature.
3. Sermon Illustrations are divided into two sections (or tabs): Sermon Illustrations and Illustration Maintenance.

Note: The above screenshot is from the purchased database. You will start with a blank database.

4. When you add a sermon from the Illustration Maintenance tab, be sure to type in your Category name (none will be available to select).

Let me add, only the filename: illustrations.illx is recognized. You cannot select files within e-Sword.

Hi Josh,
Just to add, its important to note that this file cannot not be distributed despite having one's own illustrations on it. The actual file is copyright, and all rights are reserved on it.

Sorry to be the one that has to tell you this.

Blessings,
Stephen (Php 1:21).

I've heard the same "closed format" rumors but when I asked Rick today, he had no objection to me posting this module so people could add their own sermon illustrations.

Hey, Josh,

I guess you gotta learn to be careful who you listen to.

Hi with the illustrations.illx is the only name you can use and the only module that e-Sword will recognize. Is this true?

thanks

Yes, e-Sword will only recognize the illustrations.illx file—no other filename.illx

Hi Josh,
Thanks for clarifying that. I've learned something new today.

It just goes to show that things really does change at times, and that it pays to keep one's finger on the pulse as to what happens. What you shared is a good case in point.

Blessings,
Stephen (Php 1:21).

Josh, when I copied this file to my executable folder (version 8 running under WinXP, SP3), my sermon illustrations option stays greyed out. Is the file supposed to work for version 8?

Blessings.
Lloyd
