Everyone,
Unfortunately, Brent passed away a few days ago. He was an anesthesiologist in California, a husband, a father of two sons, a hobbyist programmer who wrote a number of tools for e-Sword, and an avid student of the Bible.
He was always reflecting on the Bible and refining what he believed. I always admired how he wasn't a "insert denomination name here" because of the way he was raised. He went his own way trying to arrive at the truth of biblical interpretation. That's so rare these days. I believe that's why he liked Bible study software like e-Sword--because it aided in his relentless study.
My original post (see first message in this thread) tries to summarize what he meant to our community!
Josh
Thanks for posting this Josh.
I had the privilege of working with Brent for a solid 3 months as he was rushing to get T4 updated with the latest control version(before he became too ill). Also rewriting all the routines to use a different SQlite as per e-Sword. This was achieved just in time at the end of November 2019. There were some outstanding things to fix.... One that might cause issue issue is that when building a .bblx Bible. For the final verse in the file you have to put a space and return on the next line, otherwise it will not find that last verse.
I will close out with one of Brent's favoured quotes from a book, "The Desire of Ages", page, 787, by Ellen White is "to the believer, death is but a small matter".
Jon
Hi Josh,
I totally concur with Jon.
Although I've not known Brent personally, yet one could really get a really sense of his heart, and to see where he was in Christ. Moreover, there seemed to be a kindness and benevolence which shone out of him. That I've attributed to his steadfast faith in Christ.
One of the things that amazed me about Brent was his steadfast trust in God despite the illness he suffered, and just kept on believing God, and holding fast to Him.
He will be and is sorely missed.
Blessings,
