Can I change the default tab length in the Editor windows? It's now 13 or 14 spaces in length. I could live with half that but would like to set it down to only 5 spaces. If it's impossible to change, I still plan to live happily ever after, however. :-)

Hi Earl,

I'm not too sure by what you mean by, "he default tab length in the Editor windows," due to there only being three editors:

  1. Journal Note Editor
  2. Topic Note Editor
  3. Study Note Editor

And their default names being:

  • Journal Notes
  • Topic Notes
  • Study Notes

And these tab names don't change.

Now, of coarse you could mean something entirely different, so if you enlarge on what you are actually talking about, and bang up a screenshot, that would be really helpful. At the moment I'm confused as to what you are talking about.

The tab length can be adjusted by click-drag the little tab marker to a new position, or drag down to delete it. Or double-click the ruler above the tab markers, which will open a window where you can clear/adjust them(need to close that window to see changes) However this does not appear to change the default setting, so it looks like you would have to adjust it for each topic. Beware that there is a limit of 14 tabs.

Thanks Jon,

The default was what I'd hoped to change. I understand the ruler markers and, while I didn't specify it, the default was what I was hoping to reset. Guess I'll just have to continue hitting the spacebar five times in lieu of the tab key as I seldom have more than three or four paragraphs to a note anyway. Still love e-Sword. Life will go on...

Earl I tried to use the chat, but it seems you were off-line.

Rather than spaces, could you just change the settings of your paragraphs to change the first line indentation?

OK, I got it, the Tabs are Indent spaces on the ruler.

Hi Earl,

The simplest and quickest method you can do this by, is simply using the Format Paragraph Dialog.

Depending on the type of paragraph you are using, e.g., a numbered list, a bullet list, you just simply type in the measurement you wish to indent the paragraph by. The default margin setting for the page is usually 1.0". And the default paragraph setting is 0.0".

To whatever indentation you have set it at, it will remain there until you clear it, as in resetting it to the default 0.0".

This also applies to both Hanging and First Line indentations, and any other type of Paragraph formatting you have created.

See attachment of Screenshot below.

Thanks, Guys. I had never used those buttons/settings and didn't really know what they were even for. Guess I need to do a bit more experimenting!
