#58750 AHLB Where to save files to?

Posted by APsit190 on 25 August 2026 - 12:43 AM

A backup is essential and so is a backup of your backup. A few weeks back I was so pleased I had the backup of the back up. lol

What a way to go...

One of the best ways to avoid those "Don't have Administrator permissions" thingies" is download your e-Sword resources on a separate drive, and you'll never have that kind of issue ever gain at all! Moreover, if your desktop PC has space to install extra hard drives, I suggest you install one of them, and then have your e-Sword resource files (and any other non program files e.g., photos, videos, etc) put on that drive. Have something similar to this (its something that I've done):

  • C: Drive for just your operating system and other software
  • D: Drive for all you're documents
  • E: Drive for videos and photos

That is like having 3 hard drives on your system.

And finally, above all everything else, have a major backup so if something goes pear shaped and your computer crashes, and you lose all your data, you are safe.

#58163 Comments on UI changes in Version 15

Posted by APsit190 on 18 July 2026 - 03:06 PM

What do you think about the major interface changes in version 15?

As far as the GUI is concerned... Looks like a butt ugly Martian. Hate it and uninstalled it.

As Jon shared

As noted by developer Rick Meyers, no one is obligated to update to this version.

is true; it has a tendency of one being smacked down.

With that said: Having had a play with it, its really not all that User friendly in comparison to the previous versions, and the KISS principle of software development seems to has sort of flown out of the window: Meaning the learning curve has markedly increased.

Now, here is perhaps the most critical and damning point: A totally new version and design (not an upgrade), but no documentation (e.g. Help file) for the user to be able to learn to get around this program is (now the damning condemnation) a total dereliction of the Developer's responsibility to provide the necessary documentation. You know, as in a Help file or a tutorial video, or even a slideshow. Something!!!

In conclusion: My verdict of e-Sword version 15... It sucks!

#58079 PocketSword 1.4.8 on iOS question

Posted by APsit190 on 12 July 2026 - 11:55 AM

Is the PocketSword no longer being supported? I have been using it on my iPhone for a long time and love it! It has so many free downloads and also one or two that I purchased. I do wish that it had the ability to highlight one word with different colors.

Can anyone recommend a Bible app that is close to being like PocketSword?

Is there any chance that the creator would sell the app to someone who could do a few updates to it?

Have you looked into e-Sword LT for iOS (iPhone)?

https://www.e-sword.net/iphone/

With regard to B. Nixon's Response, e-Sword LT isn't free. It costs US$3.99 (4 bucks in round figures), which is an extremely reasonable price. As to how good this program is, I have no idea.

#58070 Conversion tools

Posted by APsit190 on 08 July 2026 - 12:03 PM

Hey there!

I've been coming here for a number of years looking for and hoping someomne could create a Mac native converter for bibles and other resources. I recently have worked on a version of this for myself, and think I've hit on the toolset needed for a simple converter. It is currently a Mac applicartion and I have it under test, and hope to release to the app store this week, as well as create a downloadable binary.

Question:  Is this functionality still in demand? As I perused the forums of posts people have been making, they have .bbli and other *i modules that work natively in e-swordX, but I thought I'd ask before I go through the whole process of getting the app polished for release.

What say you all? Is this still a thing folks need?

Click here to download the the e-Sword PC Module Conversion Utility.

This tool will only convert 3rd party resources and not convert premium or free resources downloaded from the e-Sword built-in Download Manager.

Blessings,

Stephen (Php 1:21).

#58012 Afrikaans 2020 translation

Posted by APsit190 on 13 June 2026 - 03:08 AM

On this issue of particular copyright resources for e-Sword, whether free or premium, one wishes to have on e-Sword as a 1st party, the ultimate decision for this to be able to happen totally belongs to Rick Meyers. Individual e-Sword Users have about 3 shows of getting permission from copyright owners for these resources unless (and this is where the rubber meets the road lies) you're prepared and have the money to pay for the royalties for those resources.

Your three shows of you getting this to happen are:

  1. A dogs (and or a cats) show
  2. A floor show
  3. No show at all!!!

Essentially (and this is important) your first and only port of call you have for any copyright resource made for e-Sword is to contact Rick Meyers. This is where it begins. And this is where it ends.

Having said all of that; I want you to take note of this:

There is nothing to stop any person to create copyright resources to be able to use on e-Sword with this one proviso: That this resource cannot (and let me repeat with stronger emphasis), cannot be given, sold, or distributed to any other person. It can only be used for your own personal use.

Trust you find this information helpful.

#50017 Widening the left column for more letters in Bible book title

Posted by APsit190 on 04 May 2026 - 02:27 AM

Right now I get 3 letters only. I have a large screen so real estate is not a problem.

Thanks Al

The fix is relatively simple; just simply place your mouse cursor on the "divider" between the Bible panel and the Verse column, then fully drag it out and you should be alright.

Trust this will be really helpful to you.

Blessings,

Me (the bloke in photo thingy).

#49965 So, What is Going on With BibleSupport?!

Posted by APsit190 on 14 April 2026 - 04:31 PM

Over the last 2 (or was it 3) days I was not able to connect to BibleSupport due to it being offline, as in getting one of those kind of "Error 404" pages. Now to be certain, one of those pages told me the issue was not at my end, but rather at BibleSupport's end. Then yesterday I was directed to a site that told me (you're not gonna believe this) that BibleSupport website is up for sale.

By the way, this is not the first time this has happened, but is the longest time I was unable to connect. So, what's been happening, and what's going on?

So, I hope someone can give an answer.

Blessings

#49677 e-Sword on Windows on ARM

Posted by APsit190 on 06 March 2026 - 01:04 PM

Please advise Rick Meyers that 64-bit has taken over the world. https://e-sword.net/feedback.html

Hi Olaf,

Just to let you know that Rick is one of those that when it comes to Windows, he's a tad stuck in the mud. For the e-Sword Windows edition (from what I heard, read, and understand) Rick uses an old Windows 7 PC, and an old version of Visual Studio/Visual BASIC programming language. So, Windows 7, and all other software built  at that time I think was basically 16 and 32bit. Where the 64bit platform of Windows really started to come into prominence was when Windows 10 came out as a 64Bit OS.

With all that said, the weird thing is that when it comes to e-Sword LT, HT, X and e-Sword Android; all these have to be developed on a much more modern machine, using a much more later version of Windows, having a much more later version of a Programming IDE (Integrated Development Environment) which has the capability of creating iOS, Apple, and Android app(lication)s, i.e. the newer/later edition of Visual Studio which has the built in IDE to create apps for iOS, Apple, and Android platforms, using C# and/or C++ for these platforms. Which then, by the way, has (you're not going to believe this) has a much later and more up-to-date version of Visual BASIC. Crazy, I know!!! But there you are. Such is the e-Sword world that we live in.

OK, eventually Rick is going to have to develop e-Sword as a 64 bit application rather sooner than later. The reason is (going by what's coming out in the IT world) Microsoft will eventually no longer support the 32bit platform. Currently, although Windows 11 is a 64bit platform, one is still able to run 32bit software on it (up to a certain point). However, there's no guarantee that this will be the case for Window 12.

Well, that's it from me on this one.

Blessings,

The writer used Bible Support to advertise in Russian. His entry has been removed. His topic, "Professional installation of elevator equipment Ё 691" is not relevant to this website.

I dunno... could get elevated a bit more closer to God

#49289 I have many French version Bible modules

Posted by APsit190 on 04 December 2025 - 05:53 PM

Hi,

I made modules for many French version of the Bible : Semeur, Colombe, TOB, Jérusalem, Lausanne, Nouvelle Bible Segond, Nouvelle Édition de Genève, Parole de Vie, Parole vivante, Segond 21, Français courant.

Can I post them on this site? Normally, they are not royalty-free versions, but they can't be purchased anywhere. So is it ok to make them available here?

Thanks,

This site is for works that are Public Domain and no longer under copyright, copyrighted works require the permission of the copyright holder to be distributed as e-Sword modules.

Just on what Higgsy shared, if you require permission and have gotten it, I think it might be an idea to publish that permission on the Bible's download page. Just an idea.

Blessings,

Stephen (Php1:21).

#48933 Red Letter in eSword Tooltip NT

Posted by APsit190 on 15 September 2025 - 02:28 PM

On a personal note (and so you can take it for what it is), the color (as the Poms would spell it, colour) red is not a kind or gentle color, but is rather harsh. And its for that reason I don't use it in e-Sword, and moreover I don't have a hard copy of a red letter edition of the Bible. That said, apparently, green, and particularly, Sage Green (according to the experts,) is hugely much kinder or more gentler on the eyes to the point you don't get eye strain, blurred vision. and/or headaches from that color, as where you do from Red.

As for a background color, I have use the Dim Light setting (on e-Sword Droid) which is a dull type of green.

That's it from me on this one

Blessings,

Me! (you know, that bloke, Stephen).

#48892 I had to get a new computer that is missing necessary fonts

Posted by APsit190 on 01 September 2025 - 03:14 PM

Hi,
I need to know what fonts I need to install to make sure the Greek and Hebrew fonts display correctly. Apparently my new computer doesn't have them. Thanks

I use Galatia SIL for Greek and Ezra SIL for Hebrew.
https://software.sil.org/fonts/

Hi Todd,
I use TITUS Cyberbit Basis for both Hebrew and Greek. It tends to display the characters the best, as where I had issues with Galatia SIL and Ezra SIL display on my system.

By the way, you should have TITUS Cyberbit Basic on your system as it comes with Windows. But to be on the safe side, go to C:\Windows\Fonts to see if its there. If not click here to download it.

Trust you find this information helpful.

#48527 Downloading EXE files from Bible Support

Posted by APsit190 on 11 June 2025 - 01:03 PM

I recommend getting rid of the .exe files after ensuring that the actual modules contained inside the self-extracting .exe files are available for downloading here.

     BNixon

Just on this note, self executables (exe) are compressed files, pretty much like zip files. The big plus/advantage for them is that they don't take up a lot of disk space, and they are quicker to download and upload. Now, the huge plus goes to those who are on slower internet.

But that's not all! Josh Bond also uploads e--Sword resource installer (exe) files, as do many others (including myself. And to be candid, I prefer it that way rather than uploading the raw uncompressed file. And guess what? That is also not all.

Now, when it comes to resources that have multiple volumes, e.g., Jewish Encyclopedia , which has 12 volumes, and each volume is a single file. Let me tell you this, having something like that, all those 12 individual files compressed into a single self extracting installer exe, and downloading that exe and installing it onto my PC is far quicker than downloading 12 individual files 1 at a time.

I trust this helps you.

Blessings,

Stephen (Php 1:21).

#48470 Centering a Table

Posted by APsit190 on 04 June 2025 - 08:19 PM

In reply to a query pertaining to tables, borders, white space, etc. Rick Meyers, the developer of e-Sword for the PC replied that HTML does not handle these features well, and HTML is the file format that is now being used for file storage.  Again, if these word processing features are important to you, then return to using e-Sword 13 for the PC, as that version stored the RTF content natively.

When I saw this response, and in particular to what Rick Meyers shared with Olaf regarding the limitations of HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language), I thought I'd share the reasons for it. So, here goes.

The primary reason for HTML having the kinds of formatting limitations, is simply because it's fundamental and core usages, are for websites. And predominantly just for that purpose. Web pages do not require the more complex formatting that are seen in RTF (Rich Text Format) and/or UTF (Unicode Transformation Format) type documents.

Now, having said that, here is perhaps the most interesting part of all of this. HTML is based off UTF, and in particular UTF8, and it for this reason why one can create limited formatted documents  from it. However (and this is significant), if Rick, instead of going with HTML, and just purely went with UTF, and in particular UTF-16 or 32 bit, it would have been better when it comes to formatting text and etc. Moreover, UTF is far better than RTF any day of the week, month or year (of which there is a vast amount of technical documentation that supports this argument).

Trust you all will find this information both useful and helpful.

Blessings,
