#44632 Where are underlines stored.

Posted by APsit190 on 23 June 2023 - 05:21 PM

Thanks, that means underline will move around depending on whether Pericope is toggled on/off.

Yep, you're right on!

So, the only thing you can do anything about that when it comes to highlighting and/or underlining is to make a decision to either never to have the Pericope on, or never to have it off. For me, the decision is simple. Considering I hate the Pericope, it's a no brainer to have it and leave it off.

#44557 Installed Bible Never Showed Up - BIBi (PC) Berean Interlinear Bible 5-Layer...

Posted by APsit190 on 12 June 2023 - 06:16 PM

Thanks for everyone's help. I was using .bbli instead of bblx, because I didn't know any better. I'm still new here. Also, the tip about using lower case extensions is new to me. God bless you all!

Van

Lower case has always been used on the file's extension going right back to the days of DOS (1980s, 1990s, and early 21st Century) of which at that time the limit of the size of the filename a maximum of 8 characters and 3 characters for the extension. The filename speaks for itself, and the extension defines the type of file it is. The limitations to filenames and extensions were due to the amount of bits and bytes the CPU could handle. With that said, believe it or not, the history of computers goes way back to 1937. That is freaky! I didn't even know that until just a very few short minutes ago.

So, if you're interested, click here to explore the timeline of the development of computers, and click here for the history of the OS (Operating Systems) for computers.

I trust you find this interesting and helpful.

#44543 Installed Bible Never Showed Up - BIBi (PC) Berean Interlinear Bible 5-Layer...

Posted by APsit190 on 07 June 2023 - 05:01 PM

ElderB,

Something you seriously need to know:

  • bbli file type is not, let me repeat and emphasize, is not the default type for e-Sword PC
  • bblx file type is the default file type for e-Sword PC both irrespective and despite the fact that a bbli file can be viewed on e-Sword PC
  • The bbli file type is the default extension for
    • e-Sword LT and HT on Apple's iOS devices
    • e-Sword X on macOS devices
    • e-Sword Android devices.

Bearing this in mind, it is important that when it comes to resources for e-Sword PC, it is best practice to stick to the default extensions made for that particular version.

Remember: bbli, cmti, and etc file types are not the default extensions for e-Sword PC.

So, with that said, I recommend that you actually produce resources  designed for the particular edition of e-Sword it is made for:

  • e-Sword PC: bblx, cmtx, dctx, etc.
  • e-Sword HT, LT, X, and Android: bbli, cmti, dcti, etc.

Trust you find this helpful.

Blessings,

Stephen (Php 1:21).

#44542 Installed Bible Never Showed Up - BIBi (PC) Berean Interlinear Bible 5-Layer...

Posted by APsit190 on 07 June 2023 - 04:23 PM

ElderB,

Thanks for taking your time to help me out. Unfortunately, I did that and the bible still doesn't show up. The Notes file is there, but not the bible.

Van

Although it hasn't been mentioned or said outright, my guess is that you're trying to install a Bible file with a .bbli extension to use in e-Sword PC. So, if that is the case, then here is a really dumb or stupid idea that just might work. Give it a go, and see what happens... So, instead of trying it with a .bbli file, why not try it with the file type that is actually made for e-Sword PC, which is a........ wait for it .......... bblx file.

Yeah, I know! It's just really dumb, and the most irrational and stupid thing to do, eh.

#44423 Unable to scroll horizontally to view Greek Interlinear Bible text

Posted by APsit190 on 09 May 2023 - 03:03 AM

attachicon.gifScreenshot 2023-05-08 211811.jpg

The verse table data that my module is using was already ordered rigidly Left to Right.  One would have to create some sort of amazing sorting algorithm to resort the table data of each verse, as encoded in HTML, in each row of the SQLite database table in order to switch every row's table cell data to Right to Left.  A Right to Left toggle can work fine on linear text, but isn't going to reverse the order of table cells.

You may be technically correct that I can't enter information into a row of an SQLite database table that will result in self-wrapping columns in tables.  Fortunately that capability is programmed into e-Sword for Windows and the software wraps the columns in tables for me (see attached screenshot).

As you pointed out, e-Sword for Windows doesn't have a horizontal scrollbar, which was the point of my question and efforts--to work around the lack of a horizontal scrollbar and still gain full functionality from the data in a multi-layer interlinear Bible module.

Ahhh! OK. I see. No wonder why no one ever tried to use a table for Hebrew in a Hebrew Bible in the way you want to do it. Seriously!

I have an idea, but as to how well that might work out is anyone's guess. See if you can find a Rabbi or Jew who is into Computers and is well versed in Hebrew, and see if you can pick his brains to find out how this can be accomplished. Reason being they would use Database apps, Spreadsheets, and Tables in a word processor, which does things Right to Left. And all the data they enter in, all reads right to left.

So, I think it can be done, but its just a case of finding the right bloke, whose brains you can pick, to show you how to do it. Then everything should be kosher.

#44366 Transferring Note Files from Android to PC

Posted by APsit190 on 27 April 2023 - 05:08 PM

A bit about assumptions.

When it comes to issues and problems with e-Sword some users are experiencing, or that of trying to figure out how to do this or do that with e-Sword; one of the things I notice is that some of the advice given is not based on fact, but rather the advice or answer is assumed. Another way to simply put it, it hasn't been tested. And perhaps the best example is the one relating to noti/topi files not working in the Windows version of e-Sword.

As a (currently retired) software developer, one of the most important (among the other important) principles I learned is, "Don't assume," and "Test, test, test!" If we all learn these principles there would be, well the best one is, less egg on the face (embarrassment). But more significantly, giving the user the correct resolution/help/answer he or she needs.

Moreover, when dealing with problems and issues with e-Sword, some might be universal, some might be just local, while others might just be a PEBKAC (Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair), which is an Egg on the face thingy. Therefore a bit of discernment in resolving these issues is a requirement. And when it comes to dealing with a PEBKAC, do not ask, "WHAT DID YOU DO WRONG, DIPSTICK!!!" Well, you can if you want to risk a cast iron frying pan (skillet) in between your eyeballs and upset the person at the other end. So, sensitivity is really important, plus a mandatory requirement. You may be dealing with a complete novice who basically doesn't know anything about computers.

So, with that said, I trust some just might find this helpful. And if you do, click on the Like This button which will probably help the algorithms.

#44364 Downloading commentary available on PDF

Posted by APsit190 on 26 April 2023 - 06:08 PM

I have a resource for a commentary that is not available as a download from e-sword. It is in PDF and I wondered if I can create a module in commentaries that can be downloaded from a simple PDF?

Also, second question. I was wondering if there is a way to hyper-link Scripture passages from my Sermon Notes in Word to E-Sword. In other words I put a hyper-link in my Sermon (in Word), click the hyper-link to John 3:16 and it will pull up John 3:16 in e-sword. I like to put my sermon notes (in Word) and e-sword side by side on my computer. It would be nice to place the hyperlink to passages on my notes and it would directly pull them up in e-sword.

Below is a video I created which will give you a few ways of how you can create a commentary for e-Sword, of which I trust you may find helpful.

Your second question was the first one I answered, then followed by answering your first question secondly. So with that, here is the video:

#44312 Talmage, T. De Witt - 500 Selected Sermons (20 vols)

Posted by APsit190 on 18 April 2023 - 08:16 PM

Good evening!  I would like to know if anyone could build a file for Apple iPad / Mac for the T. DeWitt Talmage sermons.  Josh Bond has downloads built but they will not work for Apple.  Thank you in advance. -rclements

Ummm, A tad difficult without the link to where one can go and download these files you wish someone to convert. So, it just might help a little bit if you could add the link, hey! Good idea?! What d'ya reckon?

#44267 The Current New International Commentary sale...

Posted by APsit190 on 04 April 2023 - 04:59 PM

Does anyone else have a review on these commentaries? Both sets together are around $300.00 all together which compared to Logos and Accordance is way cheaper. Those two programs charge about as much as buying the books themselves iirc.

I am wondering how well it works in esword, and if there is pagination that corresponds with the book versions. I'm thinking there are some drawbacks but could be wrong.

Any input is appreciated, thank you.

Yep, I do!

As for pagination goes, nope it doesn't exist due to the fact its not an refx/refi or a topx/topi file (which can have page numbers), but rather a cmtx/cmti file which is directly synced to the Bible Window.

With regard to how good these commentaries are, well its a matter of horses for courses and individual taste. Some academics swear by them, while others don’t. As for me, about the only thing I can say, is that they, like all commentaries, have their uses to one degree or other.

Just one iddy biddy final thing: It definitely ain't Pentecostal. Not one bit... At all! :D

Blessings,

Stephen (Php 1:21).

#44257 Is ToolTip Tool NT the only program for making e-Sword modules?

Posted by APsit190 on 31 March 2023 - 04:40 PM

The first thing you need to understand is the all e-Sword modules are SQL databases and can be edited using an SQL database editor. Tooltip NT does not have the functionality to create Popup notes however they can be easily created using an SQL database editor.

I have posted the instructions for creating Popup notes the post that the previous poster provided a link to

Just to add a tad more info on this, without reinventing the wheel, and using an existing one, particularly using a third party resource file, eg., a Bible file, one can use the SQLite to create a new version out of that file. That is the method I used for the creation of the Maori Bible.

I guess you can call this recycling.

#44163 Trying to get bible mods to show up in e-sword for ipad pro

Posted by APsit190 on 05 March 2023 - 11:53 PM

I must have made it sound more complicated than it is, but it's really quite simple. Double-clicking on an e-Sword file on the Mac is simpler than in Windows where you have to manually move the file to the right location (unless you use the third-party e-Sword Module Installer). And a resource opening up automatically in iOS and being added to e-Sword also seems pretty darn simple—simpler than an "Import" button. But anyway, it doesn't really matter: each to their own, right.

;)

Plus, I should add that whether e-Sword is simpler to use on one platform over another has nothing to do with the OS, but with how Rick Meyers programmed it. Neither Apple, nor Microsoft, nor Google have anything to do with that.

As to whether iOS or Android is easier to use, my personal opinion is that iOS is more intuitive (and I've used both). I also feel that macOS is more intuitive and simple than Windows (and again, I've used both). But that's just my opinion, and it isn't a slam against any particular operating system. I'm neither a Mac evangelist nor a Windows-basher. It's just a matter of personal preference. Live and let live, right?

Thanks for your response/reply.

I agree with you then it comes to which OS is better than the other, its gotta be what is better for the user, and so it really comes down to horses for courses kind of things. That said, if I could, I'd toss Windows in a heartbeat if I could find an OS that does better than that. However it sort of like comes down to simplicity vs complexity, and what is easier to remember. For instance, to identify drives (disks) used for PCs, nothing is easier than A, B, C, and etc., as where in Linux, and macOS and etc., its weird, just to say the least.

Then when it comes to program files, the executables are, well dead easy for Windows/DOS: exe for execute and com for command. That is just so easy. Linux, macOS and etc is a case of, ummm, yep, ahhh, and my head explodes. Other file types that the OS uses, e.g., dll, sys, that one are pretty much simple to understand

  • dll = dynamic link library are part of and use by a particular program.
  • sys = system used by the operating system both Windows and back in the day, DOS

With regard to Windows itself, the best versions by far, in my experience are:

  • Windows 98
  • Windows XP
  • Windows 10 (which I'm currently using

Worst Windows versions.

  • Windows 3.11 (using DOS 6.22)
  • Windows 95
  • Vista
  • Windows 8x
  • Windows 9 never happened.

What you see above is my experience Windows in total.

Of the best versions, my favorite has to be XP. It was the most reliable version I've used. Of the worst versions, the one that I hated and detested the most goes to Windows 8 and 8.1

Moreover, when it comes to Windows XP, that is when I met e-Sword (February/March 2004). And when it comes to e-Sword, I never used another Bible program. That was it for me. Fell head-over-heals in love with it, and never found a need to go elsewhere for a really decent Bible program. And that speaks volumes.

Well, that's it from me.

#44068 james Moffatt translation - becomes public domain when?

Posted by APsit190 on 17 February 2023 - 07:09 AM

The paper copy of the complete Moffatt that I own is dated 1926 and appears to be just that old based on the binding and both the fragility and the color of the pages.

It's a wonderful work.

I'm sure there is a thread here where I participated in a discussion on the copyrights but I've yet to locate it. I believe that conversation would have been approximately 10 years ago.

it does present some compilation challenges as the Moffatt took great liberty in rearranging portions of chapters  and even relocating entire chapters at times.

His rendition in certain sections often offers additional insight and clarity to verses of importance.

As far as I am aware, the Moffat Bible is in the public domain.

Depending on the country you are in, Like here in NZ, the copyright has well and truly done its dash. In the US, I think it's also done its dash. Your copy you have is a 1926 edition. Well that's pretty much close to 100 years, and it hasn't been renewed. So I would say that the copyright is well and truly totally stuffed, as in munted.

#44064 james Moffatt translation - becomes public domain when?

Posted by APsit190 on 16 February 2023 - 11:34 PM

I don't know of any e-Sword version of Moffat's OT kicking around, just the NT.

The Moffat Bible was just the New Testament, and as far as I am aware he, Moffat that is, never produced a complete Bible.

#44027 Shortcut to open e-Sword at named verse

Posted by APsit190 on 10 February 2023 - 05:31 AM

In Windows, I can open e-Sword using a shortcut or hyperlink <"C:\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword\e-Sword.exe"> Is there a switch that could be added to set the bible at a specified verse?

You can have e-Sword open randomly on any verse of Scripture, or have e-Sword open at the point of where you were previously before exiting the program. So, if you want e-Sword to open at a particular book, chapter and verse of the Bible, then just uncheck the Random Startup Verse menu item at the bottom of the Options Menu. When that is done, e-Sword will always open up at the last position where you left off. Outside of that, there is not a tool that is available which will give you that function.

Sorry that I can't be more helpful than that.

Blessings,

Stephen (Php 1:21).
