#44064 james Moffatt translation - becomes public domain when?

Posted by APsit190 on 16 February 2023 - 11:34 PM

I don't know of any e-Sword version of Moffat's OT kicking around, just the NT.

The Moffat Bible was just the New Testament, and as far as I am aware he, Moffat that is, never produced a complete Bible.

#44027 Shortcut to open e-Sword at named verse

Posted by APsit190 on 10 February 2023 - 05:31 AM

In Windows, I can open e-Sword using a shortcut or hyperlink <"C:\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword\e-Sword.exe"> Is there a switch that could be added to set the bible at a specified verse?

You can have e-Sword open randomly on any verse of Scripture, or have e-Sword open at the point of where you were previously before exiting the program. So, if you want e-Sword to open at a particular book, chapter and verse of the Bible, then just uncheck the Random Startup Verse menu item at the bottom of the Options Menu. When that is done, e-Sword will always open up at the last position where you left off. Outside of that, there is not a tool that is available which will give you that function.

Sorry that I can't be more helpful than that.

Stephen (Php 1:21).

If you upload the Tooltip tool file here I will look at it. (you might need to put into a .zip file to upload)

There isn't a place to look for error codes explanations.

Hey Jon,

I just had a crazy idea or it might be the most brilliant idea I've ever had.

What with all the error messaged people got from T4 of one sort or another, the idea is to catalog them and create an addendum and list them at the end of the T4 user guide, explaining what they mean, and what the fix is. That way, everyone has a go to that they can go to for help and get an answer to what the issue was.

Blessings.

#43974 How to Print the Bible with Study notes?

Posted by APsit190 on 26 January 2023 - 10:43 PM

Hello, I would like to print a Bible chapter and have my linked study notes print out as well with each verse. When clicking print in the bible section, there is a option to include commentary notes but not study notes. Is the possible? It would seem that as robust as e-sword is; that this would be a basic feature.

At the moment you can't. To do something close to that, is copy the verse(s) in the Note, and then add in your note. Or alternatively Just type the reference, e.g., Joh 3:16-18, then select it and press Ctrl+J to make the scripture pop up.

For more of a detailed view, I've included a video.

Trust you find all of this helpful.

#43951 transfer of mysword modules to e-sword

Posted by APsit190 on 23 January 2023 - 06:32 AM

I noticed that some modules from the mysword application work on the PC version of s-sword, and some do not. Please let me know what I should do to make them work properly. Sometimes they show up in the list of modules but unfortunately you can't see their contents. Is it possible to perform such a transfer and how to do it?

Basically, usually third party e-Sword resources could work on MySword by simply changing the file extension, e.g., e-Sword's cab.bblx to MySword's cab.bbl.mybible.  But this was just limited to third party, and illegal copies of e.g., the NASB and etc. Therefore, the amount of resources one could have for MySword from e-Sword was/is quite limited.

Now, when it comes to "converting" MySword resources to e-Sword, as far as I am aware, there isn't a tool available to make that work. That said, in reality it isn't necessary for one to change MySword resources to work on e-Sword simply because they are already available for e-Sword. You see, e-Sword has been around a lot longer than MySword, and so already had the resources available for it. MySword doesn't have unique or exclusive resources that e-Sword doesn't have. It's usually the other way around - e-Sword has unique or exclusive resources that MySword doesn't have.

Trust you find this information helpful.

Stephen (Php 1:21).

#43679 Thoughts about this translation?

Why the Legacy Standard Bible Translates "Yahweh" in the Old Testament. https://youtu.be/2hFKPHZL5qI
2021/02/27 · by Legacy Standard Bible
Dr. ABNER CHOU, Professor and John F. MacArthur Fellow, The Master's University, one of the translators of the Legacy Standard Bible. in discussion with Dr. IOSIF ZHAKEVICH, Associate Professor of Old Testament, The Master's Seminary.

Olaf,

When you see a question like, "Why try to reinvent the wheel?" is the kind of question which isn't a question that requires an answer. The question is both satirical and rhetorical, of which when such a person asks something like that, he (or she) is actually challenging legitimacy or the purpose of doing something which as been already done or accomplished, and by it being satirical makes what the person is doing as both pointless and ludicrous.

So, let's see what djmarko was getting at when he asked that satirical and rhetorical question.

  1. The first thing he pointed out was that the LSB is the latest update of the NASB.
  2. Then he pointed out that the "New American" bit has been replaced with the word "Legacy."
  3. Finally, all that was basically done in the LSB (pka NASB) was to just have the word "Yahweh" replace the word "LORD" in it, and hail it as a new translation.

So, basically what this really came down to is instead of putting out a brand new "translation" (which is the metaphorical reinvention of the wheel), why not just publish a new edition of the NASB, of which would contain the work "Yahweh" in it.

So, the crazy thing is this, by you highlighting the video actually proves the point that djmarko made with is rhetorical and satirical "reinvent the wheel"  question.

Well, that was fun.

#43660 Extra Hard Return after "Paste into Topic Notes"

Posted by APsit190 on 30 October 2022 - 05:40 AM

I recently installed e-Sword version 13.0.0 on a new PC running Windows 11.  I've been using this version of e-Sword on a previous PC that crashed.

I set up e-Sword exactly as I've been using it for years.  However, on this install, whenever I paste a verse into Topic Notes or Journal Notes or Study Notes using "Paste into Topic Notes", the result has an extra paragraph return or hard return after the verse.  In other words, there are two lines after every pasted verse.  Screen shot below.  This is not happening on either of my two other laptops which have the same e-Sword version and the exact same setup.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks!

Steve

Firstly, in answer to your question, I have no issues. Mind you I'm running e-Sword 13 on Windows 10. But then it really shouldn't make any difference.

Now for the Fix to your problem. I just did a video of how you could fix the issue, especially if you're doing multiple verses.

Trust that you found it helpful.

#43634 E-sword modules for Android tablet

Posted by APsit190 on 23 October 2022 - 07:50 PM

E-sword modules for Android tablets

Any module that is formatted for use with the Apple/Mac versions of e-Sword will work with e-Sword for Android

Just to add to that: Unlike e-Sword HT and e-Sword LT, e-Sword Android will run on both Android Phones and Tablets, as where e-Sword LT will not on run on iPad, and e-Sword HT will not run on iPhones.

So what does this mean? Irrespective of the brand and make of the Android device, whether Tablet or Phone, it doesn't matter: what is downloaded on the phone will run on the tablet, and what is installed on the tablet will run on the phone. In other words (and you can't make this up because its true), when it comes to Android software, its developed to run on all devices. The only thing that e-Sword Android won't run on are devices prior to the Nougat version. Anything from and after that version to the present and beyond, you're fine.

Trust this gives you a better understanding regarding Android.

#43330 Download menu in eSword 13 is greyed out

Posted by APsit190 on 31 August 2022 - 04:44 PM

I'm still unable to get it to work. The network is always set to bridged in virtual machines I use and I have connectivity in a web browser in any virutal machine I use in VirtualBox, but the e-Sword download menu is still greyed out. I tried installing e-Sword 13 in Windows 10 Pro x64 on real hardware, but the download menu is still greyed out. I checked the Internet Options applet in the Control Panel and the LAN settings is set to "Automatically detect configuration." I also made sure that e-Sword is allowed both Inbound and Outbound through Windows Defender Firewall. I restarted e-Sword, restarted the PC.

Additional info about my network: the WiFi router I connect to (Router 2) is set to NAT and doesn't have a firewall as far as I can see. However, that Router 2 is connected to another WiFi router (Router 1) which serves as the base modem to receive the internet connection via cable and is connected to Router 2 via ethernet cable (the WiFi doesn't work well in the ISP supplied Router 1.) Both routers are set to NAT. Router 1 does have a firewall, but I have allowed everything that I can see through that is safe to do so. I can't use bridged mode on the router I connect to (Router 2) as bridged mode disables some of the monitoring tools to check on my family. Could my router setup be an issue? Does e-Sword use a specific port that I need to allow through?

Thank you for any help.

Regards.

Can the Virtual Machine part and simply install e-Sword using WINE and run it using WINE. Beats all the grief you're going through with the VM thingy.

Nah, that's just too easy and not much fun.

#43233 eStudySource New Look

Posted by APsit190 on 14 August 2022 - 06:36 PM

So, went to eStudySource to have a look at a resource I was thinking about getting and had a massive surprise as I didn't expect to see what I saw. A complete massive new design and major overhaul is about the only way to describe it. So I did the only thing I could do, and that was a video, and here it is:

If you like what you've seen, then head over to my DRailed4700 channel and do the following

  • Hit the Like button
  • Subscribe to the channel (I want to get to the 1000 subscribers mark)
  • Then smash that Notification bell so you can be told about the new content I upload on my channel

And so with all of that done and dusted, sit back and enjoy the video.

#43142 Enlarging Reference Library Toolbar

Posted by APsit190 on 31 July 2022 - 09:30 PM

Hello  :)

I'm not sure if I used the right term in my thread title, but is there any way to increase these toolbar icons, as they are really small on my screen. I don't know if I need to change the DPI resolution to increase their size, but I would rather not do that as it applies to all the Windows views.

Do I try to run it in a different compatibility mode, would version 10 work better?

Hi Scott,

Scale and resolution really doesn't matter when it comes to the size of the monitor. If you are using a small monitor the UI (User Interface) will be scaled down to fit that monitor, and scaled up to fit a larger monitor. That includes icons on toolbars and etc., including desktop and taskbar icons.

So, my suggestion is for you to get a bigger monitor, something like about a 32" one. Or if you got a 52" TV, you can use that as a monitor, then really blow it out.

Another way you can work around it, is by changing the resolution or creating a new resolution in your Graphics card app.

Hopes this helps,

#43141 Hi ALL

Posted by APsit190 on 31 July 2022 - 08:56 PM

I just recently started using esword on my android advice.

It really makes the phone useful.

There is no better way to spend time on your phone than by using the esword app.

Yup, gotta agree with you.

Removed MySword from my phone, but still have it on my tablet 'cos e-Sword not compatible for it. A real bummer. Me thinks I'm gonna have to buy me a new tablet so it can accommodate e-Sword.

Cheers and Blessings,

#43140 E-Sword 13 and other versions will not complete the installation (windows 10)

Posted by APsit190 on 31 July 2022 - 07:59 PM

Version 13, to be fully functional must have an internet connection. This can cause it to be very slow to load, 1m 5sec. to as long as 2m with no indication it is loading and sometimes errors installing. I have found that if I disable all wifi and Ethernet connections from my computer it loads normally. I have fiber optic wifi but it’s speed can vary greatly which accounts for the varying speed of loading.

A good fix would be to stop the internet connection until needed and place a button on the main screen to connect as needed. This would take some code changes in the executable program.

I would love to have the text color change portion in options back as in version 10, I and others have missed that option.

Hope this helps Though I have no fixes myself.

Thanks, RDG

My Desktop PC is directly connected to the Modem-Router, and have fiber. My internet speed is 950 Mbps (Mega bits per second). My e-Sword takes about 40 seconds to load, which isn't too bad considering the amount of resources it has to load. Moreover, when I compare this to my last computer, the time it actually takes to load now, I consider that as quite fast. On my last computer e-Sword took about 3 minutes to load. So, there we go.

By the way, on my current machine e-Sword has to load a total of 607 resources; hence the big grunt it takes to load.

'Nother thing, I dunno if you're working from a laptop or a desktop PC, but either way if your study desk is close to your fiber box and Modem-Router, I suggest you get yourself a CAT.5E data cable and plug it into your Laptop or Desktop PC and Modem Router. You should then experience a significant improvement of performance. When it comes to WiFi, just use your mobile devices, as in phone and/or tablet for that, and if your printer is WiFi capable, connect that as well.

Trust that you find this information helpful.
