About Module Formats in e-Sword 15
This converter can only be used for "unofficial modules" i.e. ones from BibleSupport.com.
Important: Most users will never need this converter, updated Version 4 modules can often be downloaded directly through e-Sword or obtained from BibleSupport.com. Before using this converter, first check whether an updated Version 4 module is already available. This converter is primarily intended for older Version 3 modules for which a Version 4 replacement cannot be found.
e-Sword modules contain a Version value that tells e-Sword how the module content is stored:
- Version 3 = Rich Text Format (RTF) content
- Version 4 = HTML content
After upgrading to e-Sword 15+, you may find that some Bibles, Commentaries, or Dictionaries appear to be missing, although this is unlikely. One possible cause is that these modules are older Version 3 modules that were previously downloaded through e-Sword's built-in downloader or obtained from another source.
If this happens, simply download the module again through e-Sword, or obtain an updated copy from its original source. If You Downloaded Modules From BibleSupport.com
Before obtaining and installing this converter, check whether a Version 4 replacement is already available.
Review your previously downloaded files from BibleSupport.com by opening the Downloads tab on the main page and selecting View Files You Downloaded.
Converted modules normally have file extensions ending with "i", such as:
- .bbli
- .cmti
- .dcti
To find this folder:
Options → Resource Settings → Resources Location
Copy the downloaded file into that location and restart e-Sword. Special Note About Topic Files
.topx files that are stored outside the User Files Location are not converted automatically to .topi files.
You can either:
- Convert them using this converter in which case they will be converted to .refi module format and need to be moved to your Resources Location, or
- Move them to your User Files Location, where e-Sword will automatically convert them to .topi files during startup. If you need to view the file in the Reference Library you can convert the topi file from within the Editor of e-Sword. Select the topic file from the list at the bottom of the Topic Notes Editor, Then in the main window hold down the Ctrl key and right mouse click the pointer to bring up the context menu, where you select the item, "Convert to Reference Book". The module will be made in your Resources Location.
When to Use This Converter
If you have completed the steps above and still have modules that are only available in the older Version 3 format, this converter can be used to update them.
The converter does not convert the SQLite database file itself. Instead, it converts the module's stored content from RTF (Version 3) to HTML (Version 4) and updates the module's version information so that the module can be used by e-Sword 15 and later.
After installing the converter, note the installation folder. The converter must be run from that location.

I just installed e-sword 15, I discovered that I lost all of my modules, how can I view my existing modules, and have alot of bought modules, what do I Do?

They are not gone. The installer does not delete any of your modules. it just does not display those that are in the old rich text format. See the suggestions in the FAQ link

Despite installing the e-SwordPCModuleConverter 4.5.1 am unable to see the resources i have downloaded previoulsy from BibleSupport.
Any help or guidance will be apprecited.
The module converter has two options at the top one is for the type of module it is a drop down menu in the top left corner where you select the type of module to convert bible, bible, dictionary, commentary etc. There is also a button to the right side of the top that is a file folder, clicking this will allow you to navigate to the folder where your modules are stored. If you are using Windows the location will be Program Files(x86)\eSword.
Is there a way to uninstall ver 15.1.0.1? The only "Uninstall" is that for the earlier versions of e-Sword.. I am just worried that by using that uninstall will leave some derelicts in the registry.
How can I revert to the earlier version...? Ver 14.

This has saved me lots of hair being pulled out of my head after updating and then "losing" a bunch of my resources. LOL
My wife (who has used e-sword for many years) upgraded to version 15 and now can't see any of her valuable purchased commentaries, notes, bibles, etc. I found the converter, installed it, pointed to the location of the appropriate file type, but get an error that the converter won't work on a locked file. I see nothing in the forum regarding this error, so am turning here for help. The application IS NOT running, and I've rebooted to insure there should be no file locks on any of the files. I'm stuck. I would appreciate any assistance anyone can give. Otherwise, like prior posters, I'll need to roll her back to ver 14.x so all her existing files work. (I might suggest a warning on 'updating' to a more current version if significant file conversions will be necessary. This makes it tough for a 'non computer literate' person to upgrade. Thank you to anyone that can provide help.

Read all of the information provided above. Then take action.
I just updated to version 15 and I do not see my notes, etc. Where are they?
It is likely that you previously changed the location where the app looks for your user files. The Setup program does not have access to that custom folder, so it defaults to the Windows Personal folder for the current user. To resolve this, use the Resource Settings dialog to change the User Files Location back to your custom folder. Afterward, restart e‑Sword and your user files will reappear in the app.
I just updated to version 15 and I do not see some of my Bibles, etc. Why not?
Older RTF-based modules are no longer supported and are therefore not displayed. To resolve this, use the Download menu from *within* e‑Sword to reinstall updated versions of those modules.

Some of my Bibles, Dictionaries, and Commentaries also disappeared. And now that I've reverted back to 14.5, it won't let me download them again because they're not compatible.

I lost all my bibles and commentaries and dictionary's and other downloads with the new e-sword 15 update. I have a back up with most of the files. BE Careful with the new 2026 e-sword update for windows. make a back up before installing

This is not true the installer does not delete files. You don't have to uninstall the existing e-Sword either. The only action you might have to take is to point the program to where you have your resources if you happened to have e-Sword in a non-default location.
