Murphy's Law says my topic is addressed somewhere, but I've honestly looked all over.

My main pt. is to say that I don't see a general orientation for newbies anywhere. The tutorials seem to be for e-sword, not your website. My specific need is that I see no basic instruction on what to do with the downloads (and I've picked up on the fact that there are numerous kinds).

Where should the various kinds go, and how should they get there?

I'd rather ask than experiment and mess up my e-sword, 'cuz I use it for sermon prep all the time! Reason I'm confused is that with ver. 9, e-sword downloads are normally handled INternally, but the downloads obtained thru your web site are obviously gotten EXternally. I'm assuming many/most of the downloads here are not available thru e-sword's internal workings, so that they have to be obtained external to the e-sword program, but then, what to do with them?

Looking all around, the site is exciting, with many great resources. Thanks for your work!

You raise a great point. We need to write an article on installing e-Sword resources. Here's some brief instructions below. Feel free to ask about anything else you need help with.

There are three types of resources. Self installing executables, compressed files (.zip), and raw e-Sword files (.bblx, .topx, .cmtx, .dctx, etc).

1) If the file you download from our site is an executable file (.exe), then just run that file and it will install the resource for you automatically.

2) If you download a resource that is compressed in a zip file (.zip), double click (or run) the zip file to open it. Then copy the e-Sword resource to your e-Sword folder (see #4)

3) If you download a raw e-Sword resource file (.bblx, .topx, .cmtx, .dctx, etc.), then copy those files to your e-Sword folder (see #4).

4) Location of your e-Sword folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword

-OR-

C:\Program Files\e-sword

EXCEPTIONS: Some rarely used resources, like Bible Reading Plans (brpx), must go into your My Documents\e-Sword folder or e-Sword will not find them. I think Memory Lists (.memx) is the only other exception.

Thanks for the quick & helpful reply, Josh. My need is part of a broader subject that I am unable to get into until Friday, probably. After I apply your info to my specific setup I will come back to the topic, with info that I think will help others, too.

HI I found out that I can open BRP modules this way open up e-Sword,
click on tools, Bible Reading... you will see a folder (yellowish) at the bottom left (Bible Reading Plan folder) click on it.
go to C:Program Files -> e-Sword folder
click on the BRP modules.

I have my BRP modules there. I have to move my Memory (memx) modules to My Documents -> e-Sword folder. It will not work in your C:Program files -> e-Sword folder

thanks a lot for that info

Josh, several days have passed since Friday, so sorry for that, but now I'm ready to give a fuller context for my original question. I am running e-Sword within a Linux OS/CrossOver context & ready to share helpful information that takes what you and patchworkid wrote and applies it. But, I think that it is sufficiently different to warrant a different thread that then links to this one, so I'll close this out and start that thread!

I believe this thread addresses your Linux installation issue? http://ubuntuforums.....php?p=11249145

If this works, or you find something that does, maybe you could write some easy-to-follow instructions and we could post them in the Tutorials section.

I think I was writing while you posted this, so I didn't see it till just now! Feel free to check out what I posted and to see how it corresponds to the above link. The post is entitled, "e-Sword via CrossOver Linux."
