I notice that there is little interaction here on Bible Support. We do not hear from the administrators. This site could be a valuable treasure (beyond just a resource) from ideas and thoughts from the creators of this sight as well as from Rick Meyers.

Or does this site prefer to remain as it is?

I would like to draw more attention to the use of the E-sword program especially within the blogs. It would be great to hear from the creators of modules and of this site.

The potential here is huge but there has to be an interest.

What do you all think?

A few weeks ago Josh Bond posted information that a new version of biblesupport is in the works, he even asked for the users input on what they wanted to see on the new version of the sight.

Hey Mitch,

Most people just want to download resources and be on there way. The community aspect does lend itself to a few users--there are a few "regulars" that help answer questions on the message board.

Out of curiosity, what would you like to hear from module creators?

Josh

Hello Mitch,

I think that BibleSupport is already a valuable treasure and a raging success by any measure. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Josh Bond, the moderators, the module makers, the utility makers, and all the other people who have made BibleSupport such a success. Distributing materials for God's work is one of the main goals. Take a look at the download stats, and you'll see that goal is being met far beyond expectations.

When it comes to this site, and what is done on here, I have to agree with you that its quite amazing.

Just yesterday I had a look at a couple of other Bible software sites on their forum pages, and what free stuff they had to offer, and I can honestly say that they are so far behind the 8 ball that it makes me wonder if they have lost the plot or something else.

That said, what makes this to be amazing is in many ways an enigma. The reason for this, when you just have a look at the e-Sword UI, in all sincerity, it just doesn't look much at all. It just looks plain and dull by any comparison. For example, just look that theWord, and that program makes users want to drool over it in comparison to e-Sword. And yet theWord, in number of users lags way behind e-Sword. Why is that? Moreover, theWord has bells and whistles that e-Sword doesn't have at all, and still the e-Sword has a huge user base that just trumps theWord.

Its not just theWord that is like that. You can see many other Bible programs that are far more powerful than e-Sword, that doesn't have the user base that e-Sword has. And when I look at that, and also see the lack of resources they have in comparison to e-Sword, the enigma really, really increases.

I've often stated what makes e-Sword really great to use, which was/are:

  • Ease of Use
  • Simplicity of Design
  • Quick access to the resources.

The one thing about e-Sword is you don't have to muck around in trying to find the Bible version, the kind of Dictionary and commentary you want. They are all just one click away; they are all on tabs which are right in front of you. I reckon you can't get any better and any faster than that.

So, when you see that kind of thing, and then you can see why people really like this program, and then from there to want to create resources for it.

With all that said, I am aware that free is great, and I'm a huge fan of that. However, its goes a bit more beyond just the free. If one looks that the EULA, whoever thought that permission has been given, now get this, to make as many copies you want, and then just give them away. Unreal! (And I'm not talking about the Unreal game engine.)

Now, when it comes to such flexibility and openness of this program, it then lends itself to where 3rd party resource creation is encouraged. And with that, you can talk about liberty like there is nothing like it. So, when you see Josh Bond doing something like this website, with a bit of help from DDT, then, hey, you have a storm on your hand that you will never be able to control. And this is what happened.

And with that, only this needs to be said, May this ministry, along with e-Sword, continue to grow and prosper in the Holy Spirit, and that everyone who uses this site and e-Sword be blessed beyond all measure.

Blessings,

Hi Josh,

Let me just first say to APsit 190 I concur and I too have a great appreciation for Bible Support/E-sword. I put it in that order because Bible Support feeds me the needs I want in E-sword :D.

Josh, You are incredible. When I look at your posts and all that you've done (I know  I know there are others too) you blow my mind.

I would like to see more focus on hearing from the Administrators. I could add also from Rick Meyers but I imagine he's spread thin enough. Plus, just doing a google search there appears to be some troll out there that really has it out for him.

1. What would be great is to hear from the Administrators what they are not only doing with E-sword but perhaps to see what they are learning, seeing and hearing from their own use of E-sword. You all work so hard to get materials to us but I know that there is some things you can share from your insights, learned wisdom, exhortations of a sort.

2. What's current in modules in the making or near finishing. I know we have the forums but they get cluttered very easily with questions, statements and responses. I'd like to see like a newsletter update.

3. Creative ways of studying that others have done and are doing.

4. Ways to make E-sword more productive.

5. To inform us of premium modules being created.

6. Reports of how E-sword is blessing in nations.

7. Make a clean productive Blog for users

8. Innovative ways that can draw funds to Bible Support. I know that there are requests for gifts and I'm so glad it's not prioritized as a marketing scheme or emphasis. But not only the request but how can we users participate in some way to help grow E-sword the program and lend support to those in charge of working on it.

9. Video tutorials rather than just PDFs.

That's what I can think of right off the bat...I'm sure others have some ideas too.

Thanks,

Mitch

Mitch,

Many here, including the Admins, have already participated in most of the things on your list. Some things are very time consuming. By the way, post your list of things that you personally plan to contribute.

We're not formally connected with e-Sword or Rick Meyers, so we don't know what premium modules are being developed.

If we (BibleSupport users) had more modules in development, a short list on the front page would be a good idea. But we seem to have completed the most sought after public domain projects. I base "sought after" on user suggestions--for years, we had a list of texts people wanted, many of them multiple volume commentaries. We completed each one. I'm not aware of anything currently in development, although someone could be working on something. This also doesn't mean there's nothing worthwhile left to do--it just means that the larger, public domain projects that people were the most vocal about have been completed (as far as I know).

I agree definitely on the video instruction. The PDF for the Tooltip tool is probably in it's last written version and future documentation for this tool will be in the form of YouTube videos. I'm also thinking of making a general introductory video to e-Sword because a lot of people stumble into this website having never heard of e-Sword or any Bible study software. It would help reduce the number of emails we get from people confused about how to read the modules.

Edited: 2/29/2016 for clarity, specifically to clarify that not all worthwhile projects have necessarily been completed.

May God change our minds to what the truth is

2Ti_2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Rom_9:16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

2Ti 2:24-25  And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

I am trying to get to topic notes on the iPhone 6 plus in e-sword LT. Can you tell me how to do that. I could not find a way to post a new subject.

Thanks
