I recently downloaded The Word on my iMac using XQuartz (free) for the crossover.  I prefer to use eSword.  I have it on my laptop pc.  Does anyone know whether Xquartz will allow eSword to load as well?

Thanks,

Mitchell (Moshe Shaiyah)

this is a pain, why don't they just create a mac version, so we don't have to use crossover.

this is a pain, why don't they just create a mac version, so we don't have to use crossover.

It's just not that simple. E-Sword was written in Visual Basic (as I understand it) and there does not exist a VB version for the Mac OSX.

Do you realize how many thousands of hours Brother Meyers has spent making e-sword what it is today? It is just not fair to ask someone to re-create all of that work for a relatively few number of users (and I do have a Mac. I am even in worse shape because mine is a Power PC (a Quad G5), not an Intel. I would require a different program again from even a current Mac version).

It is not a simple cut & paste process. If I had to hazard a guess,  I would say very little of the current code could be reused. It would ALL have to be re-written.

While a programmer "could" write a system to access the file format that e-sword uses, that would only work for user created modules. Any "official" modules that you download from with-in e-sword , as well as most (if not all) commercial modules would not be available, as they are encrypted, to protect the publishers copyright. E-sword decrypts those from with-in the program and no one but Brother Meyers has access to that source code.

By the way, Crossover is not the only way to run e-sword on your mac. If you happen to have a valid windows license (say maybe a license sticker for XP from an old machine) you could use a product like vmWare or Parallels, and run a virtual MS Windows machine on your mac. You can then run e-Sword with almost zero hoops to jump through.

This is how (when I want to) I run e-Sword no my Mac. It's running (as far as e-sword is concerned) on a real windows machine. It's a little slower this way, but speed isn't really an issue with this type of software.

This way of running e-sword is a valid alternative.

Roy

I have decided to use bible analyzer, just as good as e-sword and it's a mac version. But thank you for the college refresher course in IT.
