another try...... esword5.png 30.83K 28 downloads
Right click e-sword and run as administrator. See if you can see the folder then. Also change the permissions to everyone on the folder itself.

OK, in my x86 folder, the e-Sword permissions are all on "everyone" (and have been so...I have not changed anything there)
but I'm not clear on the "run as"....you mean to right click on the e-Sword .exe file in the x86 folder?
or.....is there some where on the e-Sword program to "run as....."?
because I see no "run as....." as an option on the x86 folder files......

If you can't run programs as administrator, then you are not logged in as the administrator. Its your pc...you should have admin rights. I would suggest googling logging in as admin on windows 7.
"Option Two" in these instructions might work: http://www.sevenforu...le-disable.html

SUCCESS! Thanks very much for all your help, Josh.
Actually, I thought "failed again" because I got some strange response to the command prompt.....and the very act of doing that was terrifying......lol. Then I looked at my user icons.....no new one, just the same old single user "Ed"....but I went to the .exe file, right clicked and there was the "run as administrator".....which I did.....and now my e-Sword display has all those "missing" downloads in place!
I still don't understand it completely.....but

Some PC makers like locking the user out of the administrative account. This means you have very little power to change anything on the computer. In this case, my module installer did not even have permissions to read the registry. e-Sword didn't have permission to view the very folder that it resides in. It's sillyness.
The instructions you just followed unlocked the administrative powers that your PC maker disabled, and now you can actually use your PC without training wheels.

always running e-sword as administrator is not *the* solution
try the Virtualstore Explorer it will probably find your lost modules and move them back to the right folder then you may run e-sword with normal user rights :
http://sourceforge.n...ore%20Explorer/
there were questions about the virtualstore in Vista/Win7. I will try to explain what the virtualstore is.
The VirtualStore exists to work around programs that are not Vista/Win7 compatable. E-Sword and/or some module installers are sometimes attempting to modify data stored inside of C:\Program Files\e-Sword, which is unacceptable - only installers running with administrator rights or other administrative tools are intended to have write access to "Program files" folders.
To avoid crashing your system Vista/ win 7 will therefore redirect write access from C:\Program Files\e-Sword to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\e-Sword.
The second directory is the so called virtualstore for the User "USERNAME" in this directory you have write access. Problem is the normal user don't know about the virtualstore, so if an e-sword file is in the virtualstore e-sword will "see" it, but the user will not find the file in "C:\Program Files\e-Sword" it seems vanished.
Our e-Sword Virtualstore Explorer scans the virtualstore and shows you all e-sword files in it. If there any you are able to delete them from the virtualstore or even move them back to "C:\Program Files\e-Sword".

Thank you.
I imagine that it's clear from all my posts that I know virtually nothing about the programming, etc, involved here, so with that in mind, please excuse me for asking: What difference does it make that I run e-Sword as Administrator?...Is there a danger? Is there a reason that running it with normal user rights is preferable?

Is there a reason that running it with normal user rights is preferable?
Typically, using normal user rights adds a layer of security that is not present when running with Admin rights. Given the relative ease with which admin rights can be aquired, I think that that increase is more illusionary --- security theatre --- than actual. Nonetheless, I'd still recommend running everything with normal user rights, or less rights, than with admin rights.
