Well I think I have come across an answer to this problem? I have tried it out on both systems Mint 11 and Ubuntu 11.10 and it is working for me.

I can't take credit for this answer as I came across it on the net. Sorry do not have the web address where I found it as it did not get printed out on my hard copy.

Hope this works for you.

Do this B4 installing E-sword
Set oleaut32 to builtin in winecfg

Using Winetricks install

msls31
msxml3 **
vb6run
vcrun6
wsh57

Install E-sword

** You my get an error message in regard to this file. Winetricks should open a web page where you can download it from. Copy the file into the location listed in the error message. If you do not see the .cache folder press " Ctrl H " and this will show you the hidden files and folders. You will have to select the files again in Winetricks.

Hope this works for everyone

What options do you have set (press the gear icon) do you have case sensitive on?

Andri,
Here is how it works, If all else fails, read the manual. If you read the manual you cannot fail.

Here are some thoughts.
  • The word you're looking for may not be in that particular translation.
  • Your search criteria may not be set to the kind of search you want to do
  • For what you are looking for may not be found in that particular Book or Bible.
I trust this helps you.

As a matter of interest, I run e-Sword on Windows XP, and I have no issues with the search. So it may be you're actually not doing something fort the search to turn up a result.

Let me know how its going for you.

Blessings,

Thank you for your response.

Unfortunately this has not helped me. I'm certain the words I'm looking for are in these translations and I've tried searching for common words like "Jesus" in the whole Bible, but nothing has turned up.

I haven't got a clue what is causing this. I'm wondering if I should try to reinstall the program and see if it helps.

Does anybody know if I lose my journal, study and topic notes if I reinstall?

Case sensitive is not on, neither is "partial match".
And the search ranges from Genesis to Revelation.

But still no luck :/

Try something different then. Search just the book of Genesis in the KJV+ Bible. Use Regular Expressions (REGEX) and in the search field just put a dollar sign $ and do a search.

Sounds like you're onto something.

I found 1533 matches.

First time I got any results, what does that mean? :)

try some more searches "Jesus" (no quotes and set your range to the NT) using REGEX setting and then if that get some hits use the other search settings "search for all words " and "search for any words"

"Jesus" REGEX NT returns 936 results.

"Jesus" ALL words NT gives me 0 results

"Jesus" ANY words NT gives me 0 results
