So unusual it is to not have the highlighted verse remain when I switch to a different bible version then return, I have been highlighting commentary in different colour but that should not be an issue. Any help would be most welcome. Thank You.

Which version of e-Sword are you using.

Try making a new .ovlx markup file from the Bible menu -> Markup file -> New

 

It seems it is not saving or reading the data there with the current file. Perhaps it has become corrupt.

Yep, that fixed it although all previous highlights are erased. Lesson learned, put not your highlights in the digital bible. Thanks.
