#9195 Post e-Sword Module Requests Here

Posted by MJ_ on 17 May 2012 - 09:02 PM

Josh,

  • I think in bullet points
  • I write in bullet points
  • I preach in bullet points
  • shouldn't every one communicate in this fashion?
OK, just kidding (but only a little....)

Are these version 10 bullets or version 9 bullets?  Just kidding.. I like you thinking... Boil it down to the basic points.. good strategy..

#9116 I like the old e-Sword because .

  • Correct, you can't drag and drop text. You can select text, press ctrl-c and ctrl-v to copy and paste the text.
  • To Export, hold the control key and right click in the topic note/study note/journal note and choose Export from the menu that appears.
  • You can hover over any Strongs number to see the tooltip (popup) of the definition in e-Sword 9-10. 9 and 10 require that the number be prefaced with H or G, such as H331. Any valid H or G number shows a valid tooltip, BUT do check under Options/Strongs Tooltips to see what dictionary is used for strongs lookups. Make sure it's a valid dictionary with the entries it should have (by default it's set to the Strongs that comes with e-Sword).

Josh, Any insight into why the drag and drop no longer functions? that is a basic windows function in most any application. It seems weird to upgrade to a version of any software that removes drag and drop in favor of cut and paste..

#8950 Keeping your modules up to date

Posted by MJ_ on 08 May 2012 - 03:02 PM

I added a column for date in Library Manager, which displays "Date Modified".
But note that changing tab name or description changes the "Date modified" of the file.

Thanks for the upgrade sir.. is this where I add my wishlist for other features?

#8877 I need a module that teaches me about Jewish customs and life.

Posted by MJ_ on 05 May 2012 - 09:36 PM

I'm new here... and i didn't want to open new topic for my question, so I will post it here...

Is there some comentarises for e-sword that are based on Hebrew, Messianic, or generaly Hebrew mindset, so that i can add it to a e-sword?

Because all comentaries that I have (like Gill, Clarke etc.) are in protestant mindset (where most of the comentarise goes in direction of abolishiment of the Tora/Law etc.)

I would be interested to know what you find. During my stay in Jerusalem during the fall holy days I found many of the Jews were still keeping the sabbath and observing the fall holy days in some form.  in that respect they have maintained more of the bible than the protestants today.. While the protestants accepted Christ, the Jews rejected him. Each religion has half of what it needs it seems.. If they could combine it seems like the best case..

#8827 I just have to tell somebody

Posted by MJ_ on 03 May 2012 - 07:23 PM

I'm more interested in a 1909 first edition or the 1917 revised edition.  My bride says I'm too picky.

Hmm..  not too picky....  another way to put it would be  'extremely selective' .  When my wife tells me something like that I tell her that is how she was selected... through an 'extremely selective" process... she doesn't usually go for it but it changes the topic rather quickly.. :D

#8674 Bibles - Wilbur Pickering New Testament with Notes

Posted by MJ_ on 29 April 2012 - 09:54 PM

The commentary file "wpnt.cmtx" contains footnotes.

About the Translation

Both the translation and the notes are the responsibility of Wilbur N. Pickering, ThM PhD, being based on his edition of the Greek New Testament, according to the only significant line of transmission, both ancient and independent, that has a demonstrable archetypal form in all 27 books.

The Greek Text of which this is a translation, and articles explaining the preference, may be downloaded free from
www.walkinhiscommandments.com.

The translation is quite similar to the NKJV, an excellent translation of a good Greek text. Since participial clauses are grammatically dependent, I tried to reflect that dependency. But I also tried to capture the atmosphere, while remaining faithful to the Text. The result may seem like a curious mixture of formal and idiomatic style.

About the Author

Wilbur N. Pickering is a Christian missionary in Valparaíso, Brazil. He has a ThM and a PhD in Linguistics. Of those actively involved in textual criticism, no one holds a more radical view in defense of the inerrancy and objective authority of the Sacred Text. This includes the position that the precise original wording has been preserved to our day and that we can know what it is.

I just want to say that I have downloaded a copy of this work and so far I like it. I have looked at some key scriptures and compared them to the KJV in some areas where the KJV is off in it's translation, this translation has not included the same errors.  I did not realize until I read more carefully in your message text here, after my download that this translation was directly from the greek text. I very much like that. It appears to me after a limited amount of examination to be a valuable translation. I like how the footnotes are arranged and called out to reference in the commentary section.
Aside from what appears to be a fine translation, the module compilation also appears to be of a very high quality. This definitelty looks to me like it will be a real asset in my, or anyone elses for that matter, bible study sessions.
Many thanks for the hours of work that it takes to make such a high quality set of modules. Though it may seem thankless at times, please accept my thanks for your efforts for a job well done.

#8590 Lange's Commentary for e-Sword

Posted by MJ_ on 27 April 2012 - 08:02 PM

---
Switching gears to my earlier post: The Isaiah 8-9 and introduction I needed has been sent to me, so that's resolved.

Phew!  Glad to see that crisis over... I was getting nervous!!!
The Langes fan club eagerly awaits the modern technological release/rebirth of this classic biblical work!

as pastor of a small church, with a limited income,i could never afford so many of the commentaries, and other wonderful books that i have downloaded here for free.. thanks so much to those who put their time and effort into all these. you will never know the blessing yiu are. again-thanks :D

Good attitude sir.. I agree with you.. the free resources are fantastic for Esword. There is so much older material available that is avialable for free. To me, the older material is more valuable.  There are a number of people that routinely generate great modules for Esword. This is a great place to be!

Is this what you were looking for?  It includes most of the NT.  Unfortunately it is currently only split up by chapter.  There is a newer copyrighted update to some of these volumes that cannot be distributed.  Some XP machines have trouble displaying the Greek I believe.

That is it!  thank you sir! It was right there all the time, I never even saw it...

#8411 Greetings from the Deep Woods

Well, I dunno. That said, however New Zealand is (if you're in the Mid West and going south on that line) Currently 17 hours ahead of you. If you are in your Standard time and we are in our Daylight saving time, we are 19 hours in front of you. Now, here is what that means:

If we were having a conversation on the phone, you would be talking to me in your tomorrow, and I'd be talking to you in my yesterday. Currently its Tuesday here, whilst its Monday over at your end of the world. Here, Monday's has well and truly been and gone, and done and dusted, and you blokes are dragging your feet in trying to catch up LOL.

So, when it comes to who is where, and what is where, and when it comes to the Resurrection and the big thingy (rapture) and if one is counting the time of the day when its going to happen, us Kiwi Christians will be going up way ahead of you blokes over there, beating you to it. Now, I really can't make this a Biblical doctrine as, well you know, we just haven't got a clue to what the time of the day its gonna be or anything like that. So I reckon it would be quite dicky to make a doctrine out of this. But its an entertaining thought imagining you blokes kicking and screaming in trying to catch up.

Nice theory, hey!

Oh yeah, before I forget, Dave Dobbyn, a Kiwi Christian Rock singer, years ago composed a song relating to NZ and called it "A slice of Heaven." So not only is NZ known as Godzone, she's also a slice of heaven, mate. Now I reckon that has to be totally tops.

Blessings,

Godzone, a slice of heaven.. I guess you have the reputation to back up your claim! :)
I stand corrected.., and a day behind at that... :)

Thank you, MJ!

e-Sword seems to be "alive and well" thanks to the excellent help I got here....and I'm grateful to God to have my study aid back.

"how you became involved in prison ministry...."  You know I'm a preacher, right?...Nevertheless, I'll try to give the "short answer"   :)

I ended up being directed by my original pastor again (30 years down the road) who was then working with an international prison ministry.  He got me set up as a volunteer with them and my wife and I worked in prisons in Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee.  (She and I have a deal--I don't sing and she doesn't preach.....).  Her health failed first and she's been inactive for several years; I am slowed down but not stopped.  It's a ministry which cannot be adequately described, but I will say "the greatest experience by far" of my efforts to be a representative of Christ.

I've heard it said that life is a circle, that the world is really a small place.. It is true sometimes..
Thanks for sharing your story.. it is indeed a great honor to be a representative of Christ.
There can be no greater calling than the ministry, don't you think?
As a young man I dreamed of being in the ministry but life did not take me that way. Perhaps in the future God will have me do something more worthwhile than my current role.

Very nice meeting you Ed... I hope you will be able to continue in your calling for a long time to come...

I was referred to this forum just a couple days ago because of a nightmarish experience I am currently "enjoying" with e-Sword.

So, I just popped in with my situation and request for help without an introduction.  I must say the helpful folks here are a blessing.  The problem is not yet solved but it's nice to have help and support in a matter which is very frustrating.

I am aging country preacher, living in the woods of southern middle Tennessee.  For the past ten years or so, I've worked almost exclusively in prison ministry.  Now I'm at the point physically where I can hardly cover all the hills and valleys going from unit to unit and have had to scale back my efforts.  My heart is still incarcerated, however.

Thanks to all ...for the forum, for the help; looking forward to fellowship here.

That is a very nice intro Ed.
I hope your troubles with Esword are soon solved.  Esword, for me is a very valuable tool that I use pretty much every day for study and note taking.  There are just so many options and features that I am constantly, pleasantly surprised at how useful a tool it really is.

I hope your health will continue so that you are able to continue in your work.
Would you care to share how you became involved in prison ministry?

#8353 Wikipedia Bible Project for e-Sword

Posted by MJ_ on 22 April 2012 - 10:12 AM

My next project (time permitting) will be to convert the apparently abandoned Wikipedia Bible Project (also called "The Free Bible") into e-Sword format.  The wikipedia page (http://en.wikisource...28Wikisource%29) shows that specific people volunteered to translate a chapter here or a book there back in 2008, and those books and chapters remain unfinished.

This module will be the edition that was found by saving all the pages on 3-12-2012.

On a side note, if anyone happens to be interested in doing some of the translation work and fleshing out the translation, feel free to go to the above link and do so.  It seems as though no one has updated anything on there in at least a year (if not more).

After that, I may work on the "Conservative Bible Version" found at http://www.conservap...e_Bible_Project

Back to work!

This is an interesting project you've undertaken. Lot's of work involved no doubt. Thanks.

:) Soon! I think I've learned a lesson on issuing public deadlines. Lange's is coming around, but with the warm weather my progress has slowed. Fortunately, it's not a verse by verse commentary. Since it's chapter by chapter, it's manageable. The chapters that are properly divided are very fast. It's the redividing that's annoying. I think it's going to be near 160 megs. I'm spending a few hours a day on it.

Deadline?  Anyone remember hearing about a dealine? haha..

#7941 e-Sword 10.1 Released

Posted by MJ_ on 08 April 2012 - 11:11 AM

Since installation of the new version of Esword, a day or so after it was released, I have had 2 pup ups for estudy resources. Both of these pop ups came within a minute of starting up. It only took one click to clear them.

There are some other angles to look at this.

First, it is extemely limited advertising at best. it isn't an hourly or even a daily occurance. It's quite rare.

Second, these ads make people aware of resources that they might not otherwise know about, which would constitute more of a blessing to them than an annoyance.

The third factor, assuming that there is some financial gain by the author of Esword, it certainly would benefit all of us to allow this feature to exist. On the other hand, it is possible that this is a service that does not benefit the author at all.

I expect that there may be enhancements to the software in how this all works. It is a new addition and as we have seen over the years, Esword continues to be improved and enhanced in so many ways.
