Sailing With Paul
Simple Papers for Young Christians
by Harry A. Ironside, Litt. D.
1953

Henry (“Harry”) Allen Ironside (1876–1951). Fundamentalist Bible expositor. Born in Toronto of parents who were involved in the Plymouth Brethren movement, Ironside experienced conversion at age fourteen.

Ironside’s fame as a Bible teacher, evangelist and author grew steadily, but his only pastorate, at the Moody Memorial Church in Chicago from 1930 to 1948, brought him to the center of the fundamentalist network and the peak of his influence. During his lifetime, he preached more than 7,000 sermons to over 1.25 million listeners.

His theology was dispensational, as was common in Brethren circles. Adept at publishing his sermons and lectures, Ironside eventually wrote forty-six books and thirty-one pamphlets. By 1946 nearly one million of these had been sold. His lively style and clear-cut interpretations frequently made Ironside the final authority on the sacred text in fundamentalist pulpits and Bible-study circles. Recent conservative biblical scholarship has eclipsed Ironside’s work, but evangelicals’ demand for his lively and assertive Bible exposition continues. As of 1986, three dozen of Ironside’s titles were still in print.

About Sailing with Paul: Simple Papers for Young [New] Christians
Ironside wrote this book with New Christians in mind. You just became a Christian--now what? What should you do? What should you believe? There were apparently as many vague answers in Ironside's day as there are today! This book answers these questions by discussing everything from faith to where to begin studying the Bible to how to live a Christian life to the reward crowns spoken of in Revelation.

Ironside devotes special attention to conversion, forgiveness, justification and sanctification, baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and Christ’s return. Each of these themes serves as the bedrock of Pauline theology. Unlike many vague, "feel good" books written today, this book is strongly rooted in real Bible principles with clear quotes from scripture.
