J. B. Phillips: The New Testament in Modern English:   Time ago, we had this wonderful version in e-sword. Then I believe it was withdrawn due to copyright matters.

Recently I have found  the following places:

http://www.ccel.org/.../JBPhillips.htm

and here it speaks about copyright:

http://www.ccel.org/...psCopyright.htm

where it seems the possibility  of having thew anew. (Since we had them, I suppose it wont´t be so difficult, although i believe it was not a complete version)

I love this  version, one of the most christian I have found. (I got two paperbacks it!).

greetings

Sorry Brother,

The Moffitt and J.B. Phillips translations are not the same thing.

Quote====

John 1:1  The Logos existed in the very beginning, the Logos was with God, the Logos was divine.
John 1:2  He was with God in the very beginning:
John 1:3  through him all existence came into being, no existence came into being apart from him.
John 1:4  In him life lay, and this life was the Light for men:
John 1:5  amid the darkness the Light shone, but darkness did not master it.
John 1:6  A man appeared, sent by God, whose name was John:
John 1:7  he came for the purpose of witnessing, to bear, testimony to the Light, so that all men might believe by means of him.
John 1:8  He was not the Light; it was to bear testimony to the Light that he appeared. (Moffatt's New Testament)

John 1:1  1-5 At the beginning God expressed himself. That personal expression, that word, was with God, and was God, and he existed with God from the beginning. All creation took place through him, and none took place without him. In him appeared life and this life was the light of mankind. The light still shines in the darkness and the darkness has never put it out.

John 1:6  6-8 A man called John was sent by God as a witness to the light, so that any man who heard his testimony might believe in the light. This man was not himself the light: he was sent simply as a personal witness to that light. (Phillips NT Bible)

End Quote===

The quoted text for both were copied from my WordSearch library.

I have the WordSearch resources as well as a physical copy of J.B. Phillips.

Hi Roy,

Thanks for pointing that out to me. I just did another check of all of the Bible versions and translations that are available on this site, and by the looks of it the J.B.Phillips one isn't here.

I don't know why I actually took "James Moffatt" to read as "J.B Phillips." Had to be standing on my head or something similar. Anyway Roy, once again thanks for pointing it out to me.

Blessings,

Hey Brother,

I don't know why I actually took "James Moffatt" to read as "J.B Phillips." Had to be standing on my head or something similar.

Can't say that I have never done that before myself ;).

This site did, at one time, have the J.B.Phillips NT, but I think it was removed due to uncertain copyright (IIRC).

(see forum rules #11)

Cheers!

Roy

Hallo, and thanks for the answers. But let me insist:

please, check

http://www.ccel.org/.../JBPhillips.htm

and here it speaks about copyright:

http://www.ccel.org/...psCopyright.htm

http://www.ccel.org/...psCopyright.htm

it seems Phillips is in the web (you can find it in the first site), and it has permission (second site) from the rigt persons.

The letter dates from 1997, i don´t know if it is valid today.

blessing, and thanks again for your efforts.

OK, a thought.

My advise is that considering there might be and are copyright issues surrounding the J.B Philips translation, it appears to me that there isn't a really big issue over the actual gaining of permission to make copies of the translation. All it takes is a letter to the Estate and get permission, and then you're home and hose. Well, something like that, anyway. If CCEL could do it and get it, then there isn't a problem with us doing it and getting it.

Thoughts?
