I would like to search on the words or root words of that word.  For example, the word patience in Mat. 18:29 is the Greek word in the Strong's Dictionary "G3114" and from the root word "G3116".  How do I search and see where else these words are used and how they are translated in other verses?

Method 1: use KJV+ or another Bible with Strong numbers

Click on the Bible menu and search or Cntr+S

Select "Search for any of the words" and type G3114 G3116

Method 2 is with a dictionary like "King James Concordance"

The original from e-Sword download is the best (in the others forgets  Luk  18:7)

Both methods have a small margin or error.

Ok, that work. Thanks!

How about if I wanted to find the Hebrew equivalent of the word and search Old Testament for it?

Same answer, but Strongs numbers for Hebrew begin with H in e-Sword modules.

As long as you are using a translation keyed to Strong's Numbers you can do a search using the Strong's number only, or the word, then exclude any Strong's numbers that come up that you don't want included (separate the numbers by a space) by  entering the number (with the H or G) in the "exclude"  area of the search window.

Thus says the LORD, "Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, (Jeremiah 9:23-24a)

"Defenders of the faith are inclined to be bitter until they learn to walk in the light of the Lord. When you have learned to walk in the light of the Lord, bitterness and contention are impossible." --Oswald Chambers, in Biblical Psychology from The Quotable Oswald Chambers.

Another thing you can do, is when it comes to contextually placing words, best dictionaries e-Sword has for that are:

  • The Complete WordStudy Dictionary from AMG Publishers, and is keyed into Strong's Numbers This dictionary is contextual, and it gives variant definitions to these words. Also shows the root of a word, and gives the appropriate Strong's number for it.
  • Vine's Complete Expository Dictionary of Old Testament and New Testament Words. This dictionary is contextual, but is not keyed to Strong's Numbering system, however it references to Strong's numbers in the main body of a definition. This dictionary gives the different grammatical uses of a word, such as verbs, nouns, adjectives and etc., of a word.

These dictionaries are not free, but are premium, and can be gotten through e-Sword's built-in download manager.
