Hi,

Just a simple suggestion. Every website will have its own use of terms and acronyms. how about having a small dictionary for this website. This can keep 2-5 line description for all the popular keywords used. especially useful in understanding the terminology by the new users like me.

thanks
David
Who else is there like our JESUS?. obviously none.

That's not a bad idea. What terms should we include?

I'm thinking that a list of e-Sword file extensions and their descriptions would be a good place to start. :)

I'm thinking that a list of e-Sword file extensions and their descriptions would be a good place to start. :)

Such as the following?

1.6: What Are The E-Sword File Formats?
e-Sword uses Microsoft Access (.MDB) files as its base.

For more specific information about the file formats, please review both e-
Sword Module Creation Details, Updated, and e-Sword Module Creation
Details, which are in e-Sword_Module_Creation_Details_Updated.zip, and
e-Sword_Module_Creation_Details.zip, respectively, at http://groups.yahoo..../eSword/files/.

Here is a very brief overview of what utilities edit which file extension.
ANL
The only file with this extension is common.anl. It is created by using the ">Bible >Analyze Verses" function. This is a list of common words that one creates.
BBL
Bible Module file extension.

These resources can be created with:
  • BeST;
  • Bible Import Tool;
  • Bible Module Editor;
  • Biblos;
  • Commentary Module Editor;
  • Microsoft Access;
  • Module Editor;
  • Text2DAO;
  • TheWORDpad e-Sword Module Editor;
BRP
Bible Reading Plan extension.

These resources can be created with
  • e-Sword;
  • Microsoft Access;
  • TheWORDpad e-Sword Module Editor;

HAR
This is the file format for Harmony of the Gospels resources.

These resources can be created with:
  • Microsoft Access;
  • Text2DAO;
  • TheWORDpad e-Sword Module Editor;
LDB
This is an MS Access Locking Database extension. These are created to prevent two or more programs from trying to add data to a file at the same time. In plain English, if one utility is using a file, neither the other utilities, nor e-Sword will be able to use that file.

The Bible Compare Tool appears to be the only utility program that does not delete these files after use. These files can be safely deleted after The Bible Compare Tool has finished running.
LST
These are Verse List Files.

These resources can be created with:
  • e-Sword;
  • Microsoft Access;
  • Text2DAO;
  • TheWORDpad e-Sword Module Editor;

These are the graphics files that e-Sword uses. This is a closed file format.

These resources can be created with:

  • The e-Sword Map File Creator;
  • Microsoft Access;

These resources can be created with:
  • e-Sword;
  • Microsoft Access;

TIP
This file contains the e-Sword user tips that are displayed on startup. This file can be edited with any text editor.
TOP
These are TOPical file modules.

These can be created with:
  • BeST;
  • e-Sword;
  • Microsoft Access;
  • Module Editor;
  • The TOPical Module Editor
  • Text2DAO
1As a practical matter, this is the only utility program that was publicly distributed, for creating STEP files. Technically, an individual can write their own utility, to create STEP files.

And for those words/items that have existing documentation (such as was indicated by Johnathan's post) that newbies aren't likely to find....a link to the documentation.
Thus says the LORD, "Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, (Jeremiah 9:23-24a)

"Defenders of the faith are inclined to be bitter until they learn to walk in the light of the Lord. When you have learned to walk in the light of the Lord, bitterness and contention are impossible." --Oswald Chambers, in Biblical Psychology from The Quotable Oswald Chambers.

You guys make a list of terms, define them, and I'll polish it. And then I'll publish it as a FAQ and put it in the main menu. You can also view the e-Sword manual by press F1 when e-Sword is running. Outside of brief definitions, there's little point in duplicating the content there.

  • Exposition
    Commentary on the passage, with exegetical, interpretive, theological, historical, and geographical observations. Written by the author of that volume.
  • Homiletics
    A guide for preaching or teaching through the passage, with personal application, devotional insights, and observations about the rhetorical structure of the passage. Written by the author of that volume.
  • Homilies
    Actual sermons from various contributors, covering a couple of verses or a pericope. Typically, a brief introduction followed by 2-5 "points" with a number of references to other passages that provide biblical context.
Thanks to James Rice for giving these definitions

It could also be made into a module for e-Sword as well! Just a thought!
