I grew up in a conservative Jewish home and synagogue. I accepted the Lordship of Jesus (Yeshua) in 1968 shortly before my 30th birthday. I attended Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, in Mill Valley ,CA for 3 semesters beginning in 1970. I worked in Christian Education until my retirement.
My doctrinal stance has been strongly influenced by Baptist doctrine; but I am not knowingly a strict dispensationalist and consider myself to be neither Calvinist, nor Armenian.
I believe God created man because He wanted a creature who was able to receive and return His love.
The price God paid for a creature able to love Him was that He got a creature who was able NOT to love Him (Love can not be programmed). I believe "you have not chosen Me; but I have chosen you" and "Whosoever will may come" are simultaneously true. I believe that God chooses those who are saved on the basis of uninfluenced foreknowledge of their response to Jesus (Yeshua). I believe that the only reason that God tolerates the presence of evil in His world is that the capacity to love is so important to Him that He is willing to accept the necessity for freewill. God is indeed not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance; and, while God, in His sovereignty, is able to make this happen; but chooses not to do so, because his desire that people have the capacity to love is more important to Him than His desire that all be saved.
I believe that the only thing worse than a believer not following his convictions is for a believer to impose his convictions on another believer. Jesus commanded His followers to make disciples; but he NEVER told anyone to make LAWS. The greatest obstacle to evangelism in America is that our penchant for legislating morality erodes credibility for the ALL IMPORTANT doctrine of GRACE!
Our invitational hymn "Just AS I AM" does NOT read" Just as I am without one plea; except you change your clothes for me. And that you learn conformity...!
The role of convicting us of our need to change our behavior belongs to the Holy Spirit and NOT to each other.
Once we have earned the trust and affection of a brother or sister, we are ONLY THEN in a position to GENTLY exhort and encourage.
Blessings on you! Nu 6:24-26.

Danny,
The British have historically been very arrogant in their treatment of personal and place names.
Rabbi J. H. Hertz, in his Pentateuch and Haftorahs (Soncino Press, London 1952) is another excellent source for the proper pronunciation of Hebrew, Aramaic, and Hebraized Persian names of people and places .
The book is generally available from used bookstores at modest cost, since it has always been published without copyright at close to publisher's cost. McClintock and Strong Encyclopedia, and Jamieson Fausset and Brown's commentary, both of which are available for download here do a good job of accurately transliterating the Greek.
If you want a Bible with personal and place names properly transliterated, you will probably need to compile it yourself. It is a major undertaking! If you take it on please share it!

Tim,
Partial Typo; in that explanation is needed.
Since no man has seen the Father at any time (Jn 6:46, 1Jn 4:12), God, who appeared to Moses in the burning bush, and gave His name as YHVH; must have been the pre-incarnate Jesus (Yeshua). While we tend to associate YHVH with the Father; It seems to me that it pertains to the Godhead in entirety. That seems to be implied in Zc 1:10-11
This is supported by the fact that Jesus said "before Abraham was, I AM" (Jn 8:58)
Since the statement is included in cited material from Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown Commentary; any clarification will need to be placed outside the actual text.

Niobe,
In your Niobi SB Teachings, 10NoG you cite Chuck Missler's "Through the Bible" without giving credit.
Chuck's translation of these names is unique to his writing; and re arranging the presentation, which you did well, does not make it your own. There is nothing wrong with citing other people's work. Most commentators, including myself, do that extensively; but it is important to give credit.

I'm new to the message board and took a while to decide what to do about my profile. It is now ready for viewing.

For the last 11 years, I have been writing a commentary on the Bible. So far I have completed Genesis - Deuteronomy; Isaiah-Daniel; Matthew - Acts, Romans, 1Corinthians, and Revelation. I am currently working on 2Corinthians and Zechariah. I read Hebrew proficiently, and Greek with moderate proficiency.
I have been composing in WordPerfect and publishing to PDF; and making my work available in various internet venues including Facebook. My file has recently exceeded 100MB in size. To allow conversion to PDF, it was necessary to delete 10 pages containing JPEG graphics. When I attempted to reinsert them as separate files some hyperlinks became non-functional. I would like to share my work on E-Sword: but I don't know how to convert to the appropriate file format. Can someone help?
