#41786 Is there an available LXX module in English with Strong's Numbers OR

Posted by Silverhair on 07 November 2021 - 10:37 AM

When I want to do some studies in the OT I run the ABP {Apostolic Bible Polyglot w/ Strong's Numbers}, Brenton {Brenton's English Septuagint} & HSB {Hebrew Study Bible} in Parallel mode.

This works well for me.

#41267 Good Bible Forums

Dr. David S. Thomason is an Independent Baptist preacher. As such, he is a fundamental, conservative, evangelical Baptist. The material on his web site will broadly reflect that philosophy of ministry.
Contact: dave@doctordavet.com

It is not baptist material I am looking for it is a good baptist bible forum. I have looked at a number of them and most just want to have flame wars. Not my thing.

Good suggestion, I will drop Dr.Dave a line he just might know of some good ones.

I think that your comment is an over the top reaction. Here is something you need to consider: Anyone can be anti gay or anti anything else for that matter, That said, debate is a method, if you like, to reach across to those that are homosexuals to win them over to the Lord.

Sorry that this comes across somewhat as harsh, but realities have to be faced.

Blessings,

I do believe that you jumped the gun on this one, I did not see any "anti-gay" tone in ChuckH's post. What I did see was a concern for the life of his church. When you look at the church of today what we find is one that is more concerned with being acceptable to the world than they are to Jesus.

While I agree we are to reach out in love to everyone that does not, can not, mean that we bring sin into the church. The only time that the church is effective is when we stand apart from the world and point out sin, we do not embrace it.

#37168 TWOT - Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament

Best to do you own word study than necessarily depend on a dictionary.  You may save yourself $$ using the PD dictionaries or commentaries.  If your looking for the right word meaning I suggest multiple translations.  No such thing to a easy answer in Bible study.

I agree but if you have the resources then might as well use them. I have both TWOT and TDNT. But as you say no shortcuts when doing studies.

Some additional info here. My be useful in your decision making.

These comments are from Dr. Dave’s website in regard to the TWOT

https://www.doctorda...wot_review.html

First, everyone should know that this has become the standard Hebrew lexical work that all others are judged by. That sentence should speak volumes. There are shorter works (like Vine's word studies) and longer works (like the massive Theological Dictionary of the Old Testament); but all works are compared/contrasted to TWOT. Now, get this: it is only 30 years old! To become "the standard" in much less than 30 years is amazing. (It actually became the standard fairly quickly.) It simply shows how good TWOT really is.

Theological Bias

So: what is the theological bias of TWOT? First, you should know that there were three major editors of TWOT: R. Laird Harris, Gleason Archer, and Bruce Waltke. They are all well-known Neo-Evangelicals.

It should be noted that each of these three men are reformed in their theology, and are personally less conservative than I would like for them to be. Knowing this going into the book makes for an excellent time of study.

#37135 Search for highlighted text

Posted by Silverhair on 20 December 2019 - 09:57 AM

You say you have two CPU's one with and one without the periscope.  Look for the "markup.ovlx" file for the one without the periscope. Use this file to replace the markup.ovlx on the other CPU that had the periscope and it will copy all of the highlights over.

As always make a backup of any file you are changing.

#37081 How to Add 4 Separate Selectable eSword Startup Main Screen Pages

Posted by Silverhair on 14 December 2019 - 04:40 PM

Can the ability to add separate eSword startup main screens pages be included in eSword?

This may be something that would work for you. The program is called "Resourcer" and can be found here

http://www.biblesupp...0067-resourcer/

I have not used it so can not give a review.

If you try it and it works please let  us know how it works out for you.

I dwnloaded the program and took  a quick look at it. Seems to have potential but did note that it will only show pre Ver 12 files. No {BBLI, CMTI , DCTI etc) perhaps one of our more advanced users could change that so these will be shown and usable.

I posted this to show that the Hebrew is not in the TWOT, or at-least not the copy I have. I do agree that you have to look at words in context or you my just be putting your own meaning onto the word.  By the by anh Mike this was not a study of the word "created".

Gen_1:1

From TWOT

278 - bara'

Hebrew Word: bara'

Strong's Cross Reference: H1254

Definition: I, create, make, Creator (Qal);choose, cut down, dispatch, (Piel); be created, be done (Niphal; RSV yet unborn in Psa_102:18 [H 19]; clear ground in Jos_17:15, Jos_17:18; RSV and ASV mark in Eze_21:19 [H 24]).

Derivative TWOT Number: 278a

Derivative Transliteration: beri'a

Derivative Strong's Cross Reference: H1278

Derivative Definition: new thing.

The root bara' has the basic meaning "to create." It differs from yasar "to fashion" in that the latter primarily emphasizes the shaping of an object while bara' emphasizes the initiation of the object.

The question of the meaning of the root bara' is complicated by its connotation in the Piel of "cut down" (Jos_17:15, Jos_17:18; Eze_23:47). This meaning may also obtain in the use of the word in Eze_21:19 [H 24] where it need not connote carving a signpost, but simply the act of cutting down a branch or sapling as a marker). If this meaning attests to the concrete form of the Qal, the word may have meant "to form," "to fashion" in the sense of carving or cutting out. But it is possible that the Piel form may

My copy of the TWOT does not have the Hebrew text in it but when I mouse over the strongs # I get the listing which does have it so not a problem for me.

#35620 eSword on Android operating systems

Posted by Silverhair on 17 March 2019 - 12:06 AM

There is a method or a work-around that you sort of can (loosely described) "run" e-Sword for PC on a Samsung tablet. e-Sword is not installed on the tablet, but is actually run remotely on your tablet from your PC. In order to do this, you need to install a Remote Connection program on both your PC and Tablet.

My recommendation is a program called TeamViewer, which is free for the individual user.

Below is screenshot of e-Sword running on my tablet using TeamViewer.

Trust you find this helpful

Hi Stephen

When you say "you sort of can (loosely described) "run" e-Sword" care to expand on that.

#34085 How do I remove a module

Posted by Silverhair on 11 July 2018 - 11:52 PM

Simple way to remove the file.  You may want to save the files just in case you my wish to reinstall them later.

This is done from inside E-Sword. Go to OPTIONS , RESOURCE, this will open up so you can see all the resources that you have on your system. Right click on the one you wish to remove and you will see the option to delete the file. This will remove the file from your system so as I said you may want to backup the resource just in case.

You will also notice there are chk boxes. If you are not sure if you want to remove the file you can remove the chk mark and when you restart E-Sword that file will not be loaded.

#32795 Able to move a blog

Posted by Silverhair on 18 February 2018 - 05:52 PM

Question      Is there a way to move a blog over to the message board?

I have been getting some interesting comments on the "Baptism does not save" blog so thought it would be good if it could be moved over to the message board. Just not sure how/or if it can be done. Would like to bring the comments with it if possible.
