#44133 Global Search (Extended)

Posted by BigPaw on 01 March 2023 - 11:03 AM

Well, I've been using eSword for decades, and there's a great feature I've only just discovered. It's an option that I've seen in the menus but never tried it because I thought it was just the same menu option of a button already among the other buttons I push from time to time... This is one of the most significant features of eSword and possibly the most underestimated feature of eSword...

The feature? "Extended Search" under the "Dictionary" and "Commentary" menus.

The "Extended Search" feature allows you to search every dictionary module or commentary module in your libraries. it could find a Strong's reference, name, keyword, etc, etc. Sadly, it doesn't work with Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek expressions.

#35235 Converting Thayer's Unabridged

Posted by BigPaw on 31 January 2019 - 08:16 AM

I've tried converting the eSword Thayer's Unabridged.DCTX with Best Premium to be used with Pocket eSword, but Pocket eSword won't recognise it. Any suggestions as to what I could be doing wrong, please?

#32711 Antivirus and Malware Check

Noticed an old thread in Website Feedback that's still marked " Hot" where a user was concerned about an allegedly infected file he downloaded from here. It was very likely a false-positive, but it took quite a bit of discussion to put the user's mind at case. So, with that scenario in mind I'd just like to recommend this website that can put a file or website through a whole string of Virus checkers.

Take a look, or even try it out:

#31421 Looking for Matthew Poole Commentary

Posted by BigPaw on 09 September 2017 - 02:35 PM

Yep! Got it for you.

Click here and it'll take you to the download page, and from there you can download it.

Blessings,
Stephen (Php 1:21).

I'd just like to thank you also for this. As eSword isn't available for something as compact as my Android Mobile Phone I find that my Windows Mobile PDA still very much indispensible.

I may have some further requests of that's okay, please? Or, if there's a way of doing it you would like to share that would be a real time saver.

Thanks for considering this Stephen.

#30795 Android, why not?

Posted by BigPaw on 31 May 2017 - 03:29 AM

Many of the development tools for Windows result in somewhat slow and clunky application regardless of the skills of the developer. I've seen this not only in my previous work but when developers have ported their Android apps to Windows.

However, Android apps, even if written by the inexperienced, tend not to have the issue described above. So, what architectural issues are there that would pose a problem for eSword to be ported to Android?

I've tried using MySword and although the adage is true that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", I don't find it to be as practical, or as intuitive as the layout of eSword.

Any idea if there's going to be a MySword for Windows?

#30417 TDOT & TDNT

Posted by BigPaw on 03 April 2017 - 03:04 PM

I'm desperately searching for these two modules, Theological Dictionary of the Old Testament and Theological Dictionary of the New Testament. I'm suspecting they haven't been made yet. I'm a heavy user of dictionary resources in my study of the Bible.

I've used those titles as search terms with this site but as yet they haven't shown up for me. So, if they are here could you kindly just drop me a link to them, please?

The books themselves were written in the early 1800's, so there won't be an issue with copyright, etc. If you can help me I would be so grateful.

Thanks in anticipation.  :-)

#30285 Speed-up eSword

Posted by BigPaw on 16 March 2017 - 06:52 AM

Start eSword and wait until it has gone past the splash screen and is ready to use.

Start "Task Manager" by either right-clicking the 'Start' button, a blank area on your Task Bar, or ask Cortana.

When Task Manager opens you will see eSword listed. Right-click on eSword and choose "Go to details". The window for Task Manager will change and again you will see eSword.

Once more, right-click on eSword and then choose "Set priority", which in turn will give you five options.Choose "High" and then go back to the eSword program to check on its performance. Windows will tell you in a little dialogue box about the possibility of instability, etc, but I've never had an issue. Besides, when you close eSword and run it again it's reverted to normal performance levels.

I've even run it on "Real. time" when I've had no other programs running and didn't have any issues. Try it on other programs that are a little on the slow side.

#30021 Your opinion of AHLB?

Posted by BigPaw on 10 February 2017 - 07:40 AM

What is your opinion of the AHLB resource?

The explanations it offers regularly provide fascinating insights that other resources don't. For example, its reasoning on "hate" (Ps 97:10) is fascinating as it reveals the root as relating to a spiky seed. But no other references see this or explain it in a remotely similar way, in fact they more often simply state the obvious when it comes to the word "hate".

Thanks for any thoughts.

Perhaps the following quotations from Watchtower publications would be of interest to you:

Here is a problem now. I don't know who you are, or your position on what is involved in being faithful and obedient to God. I don't know if you have read the Bible, or the entirety of those articles you quote, I know that I haven't read the entirety of those articles and I doubt it for some of them at least that you have either. So, maybe you could explain scripturally what is right or wrong with the quotes you have there and how it should be corrected? Also, maybe you could help with your obvious access to these resources to establish whether these quotes actually correspond with current teachings expressed by Jehovah's Witnesses?

The point I'm making here is would you refuse to see a medical professional today because in the past the medical profession used to think Heroin was a good cough mixture, morphine a good baby pacifier, lobotomy with an ice pick the best thing for mood disorders. Do you not listen to scientists because they once thought that the earth was at the centre of the universe, or that the earth was flat?

When Jehovah's Witnesses learned that Christmas was wrong they stopped it, etc, etc. It's good that they've remained loyal to the Bible's Christian teachings on the sinfulness of homosexuality while all churches have begun accepting it for the sake of money and popularity. What about now, today?

#28818 New World Translation

Posted by BigPaw on 05 September 2016 - 02:15 PM

It's not quantities of Bibles you need, it's the quality of context and harmony of principles.

When Jesus was dealing with the Pharisees he used scriptural context, he didn't throw lots of scrolls at them. Remember the Bible principle "though hand join in hand". (Proverbs 16:5) There is also the secular phrase 'Argumentum ad populem'.

Some people look for scare stories about Jehovah's Witnesses, but 99% of those stories aren't true and easily dismissed, so that method would only destroy your credibility.

The only way to prove whether something is right or wrong is knowledge. Specifically pray to God, the living author of the Bible, to see the Bible's context and principles, not those who just make copies of it. He will help you make the right connections.

There can only be one Truth.

#16797 Bible Analyser

Posted by BigPaw on 01 May 2013 - 06:52 AM

Sorry if this a daft question, are eSword modules compatible with TheSword?

At the moment I'm liking eSword more for the uncluttered layout of the windows. . I locate the scripture or section of scripture I would like to study and tap on a word or Strong's reference I would like to delve deeper into.  Next, I tap on the 'Dictionary' tabs which rolls out, and the Bibles in turn roll away. Anywhere that reference has an explanation is indicated on the tabs. (in most cases) After I have noted what I want from there I then tap on the 'Commentaries' tab, at which point the 'Dictionaries, roll away, and so on.

This allows me to work through each section of resources deeply and progressively.

#16731 Bible Analyser

I've recently learned of a program called Bible Analyser which, allegedly, can read modules from a number of different eSword-like programs. Has anyone else had a play with this program?

If it can read different module formats then it would be a good progression from eSword I wouldn't it? Or, maybe you've tried it and think differently?

#16520 The Interpreter’s Dictionary of the Bible

Posted by BigPaw on 10 April 2013 - 09:33 AM

Hi,

Would anyone know if these volumes are available for eSword, please? If they aren't currently available for eSword, please consider this a request for them.

The Interpreter’s Dictionary of the Bible

Funk and Wagnalls New Standard Bible Dictionary

Thank you for any advice and help. :-)

#16476 AHLB

Posted by BigPaw on 05 April 2013 - 03:34 AM

The module, "Ancient Hebrew Lexicon of the Bible",  or AHLB as it would appear in eSword, the font for the Hebrew characters appear to be WingDing type replacements.  Is there an easy way to fix this so that the actual Ancient Hebrew characters are displayed, please?

 Thanks for any help.
