A Glance

at the

History and Mystery

of

Christadelphianism

About the Book

This book was written in 1889, and is an expanded edition of a previous work called "A Glance at the History and Mystery of Thomas-ism." The entire book (less than fifty pages) deals with the life and teachings of Dr. John Thomas, M.D., the man who founded the Christadelhpian Church, and whose doctrines they generally follow to this day. Examples of their doctrines are given (including denying the pre-existence of Christ, demanding that there are multiple "gods," as well as many others that actually place the Christadelphians and Jehovah's Witnesses in agreement on many issues). Also, examples of blatant plagarism, showing Dr. Thomas' true character, are given with substantial quotes from some of the plagarized works.

If you are interested in knowing the background and beliefs of this denomination, this is a good starting point.

Contents:
  • "Christadelphian"
  • False Claims of Dr. Thomas
  • Doctrinal Monstrosities
About the Author

David King was born in 1819, and became an avid reader when a neighbor allowed him free access to his large library. This same neighbor also encouraged him to attend the Wesleyan Chapel. Years later, he heard of Christians in America who refused to be called by denominational names or be bound by denominational creeds, and he set out searching for people of the same mindset in England.

In 1848, an Adventist group invited him to speak, and as a result, the entire congregation of 150 people were converted to true New Testament Christianity. He was just as enthusiastic about preaching to groups of four or five as preaching to four hundred.

Beginning in 1866, he set to training young men for the ministry. He edited a Christian journal for close to forty years, and wrote hundreds of articles. He was also an avid debater, especially effective when debating spiritualists, secularists, and atheists. Some of those he debated later became Christians as a result of the debate. He died in 1884.

This book was completely re-typed (i.e., not scanned) by Rose Payne in 1996 and placed online. Minor formatting changes and Americanization of spelling was done prior to the creation of the e-Sword module.
