Translations from one language to another do trigger a copyright. But, it's hard to see a derivative copyright qualifying under a "translation" when the editing involves systematic (and therefore, by definition, uncreative) changes in spelling.

Also saw the post by Bradley S. Cobb But Josh is listed as Administrator

You are the ones that has to "worry" about those things so will leave it in your hands

I Have WORD 13 and it does PDF to DOCX files.  Have it running against a DR 1582 PDF - how do I drop you a file? {I am new here}

May take a while and not sure that it will not crash {maybe too big}  [be back when it quits - one way or the other]

Why would you want to OCR the text when it's already been OCR'd?

Why do we need OCR?  because all I have is pictures of the text.

Word 13 gave up [mild crash] after 45 minutes

The PDF file I have of the DR 1582 is in facsimile format. See post 11 on page 2 for a snipette.
It is a series of pictures.  It may not have a text layer.  Someone just took pictures of each page and published all the photos as a PDF file on CD.    The one I have is the $20 CD from    churchlatin.com

I don't have anything that can cut the PDF file into smaller parts.
Nor will the OCR program I have take a PDF file as input.  [[I don't try this often - my normal practice is print the page of the PDF and scan it in - one page at a time - we are talking some 2000 pages]]

EDIT: was told that "What you need is Abbyy FineReader or Nuance OmniPage"  Don't have the $400!

What you need is Abbyy FineReader or Nuance OmniPage, which will scan over each image and recognize the text.  Unfortunately, it's a time-consuming thing if you want to make sure you get it done right.

It is some 2800 plus pages - How do I breakup a PDF file into individual pages [maybe if I could break it up into sections of 100 pages?]

Found a PDF splitter [PDF Merge] and submitted just page 19 [Gen 1:1-10 or so]  See snippet page 2  #11 of this thread for verses 1-4 or so   Used Readis pro   there is a lot of editing to do.  There are comments on both sides of the Bible text.  [striped out for this run]
This is what I got :

Unfortunately, that looks like some of the e-Sword modules I've seen online in some places.  I am not familiar with the OCR program you mentioned.  I would recommend FineReader (by Abbyy) or OmniPage (by Nuance).  They would probably give you a much better text to work with.  Of course, depending on the quality of the pdf, it might not matter much.

People don't edit the OCR results? great!  [[And I don't have the $4 - 500 for the REAL OCR programs]]

Some one else is going to have to do this as I don't have the tools [nor the time to edit 2800 pages]

SOME people don't edit the OCR results.  When you hear Josh talk about a "pump and dump module," he's talking about people who just OCR it (or take the OCR'd version from Archive.org or some other website) and throw it into a module as though it was a finished product.  That's caused many people to simply delete what would have otherwise been useful modules.

I don't know for sure, but I thought that either Omnipage or FineReader was available as a trial (like a limited number of uses).  I may be wrong, but it would be worth looking into.

Great! Some just don't care
If this loads it is page 19 of the PDF that I have
Gen 1:1-11
When printed 8.5 by 11 the margins are about one inch on both sides
There are lots of comments in both margins
There are also lots of comments in the center column between chapters

DR 1609 G1.pdf

Also [from information on another forum] the trials often don't let you do a large file.

Also the letter 'v' is used to show where there is a 'note' as in "And vwhen he was yet far off," so who ever does the edit needs to check the spelling of all word that start with v - Maybe spell check will help.
