Suggestion for Teachers

It is suggested that each student be given a copy of the questions for each chapter at least one week before the class session on that particular chapter, encouraging them to read ever pas-sage given. Some will do so while others will not. Never take it for granted that your students are doing their homework.

CAUTION

In our “rush, rush” society it is tempting to rush through a Bible class as quickly as possible and get through a chapter in a forty-five minute class session. This is little more than a group Bible reading. To study God’s Word one must take time to search the scriptures as did those at Berea (Act_17:11) in order to learn all the Bible has on any given subject. It is this writer’s opinion that the lack of daily study is a major cause of the biblical ignorance found in most congregations today. Our Lord told a group of people to “Search the scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life…” (Joh_5:39). In another place He said, “You do err not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God” (Mat_22:29). It is no different for we who live in the twenty-first century.

There was a time following the great depression when churches of Christ were known as “Bible toting people,” meaning that members of the Lord’s church were well versed in Scripture from spending much time in home study of the Bible. Sadly, this is no longer the case. We have found through experience that many who attend our Bible classes do not take time at home to read, and are therefore very lacking in Bible knowledge. For this reason I take the time to read the chapter before each session in order for the material to be fresh in every mind. In the introduction lesson I take the students through every verse before going to the first question.

One may use this material as a teaching tool in any Bible study situation. It is also written so that the novice may simply use it as a study guide to further their knowledge of God’s divinely inspired Word. This writing is only a tool to aid in your study and is not intended to take the place of personal Bible study. Open your Bible and read at length. Only then can one truly say that they have God’s full approval. Each individual Christian must “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2Ti_2:15 KJV).

Use this material to the glory of God.
