The lists of names of the books of the Holy Bible, Old Testament (OT) and New Testament (NT), provided by Biblesupport.com member Katoog will be visible when you select a Bible in e-Sword which has been set up for the English language. These are the abbreviations selected as standard for use by e-Sword. The SQLite database correlates Bibles, Commentaries, Dictionaries, and Lexicons on these standard cross-reference abbreviations. The books are divided into chapters numbered from 1. The chapters are divided into verses, numbered from 1.

Remember, when you refer to Bible abbreviations in a document that you write, that all Bible publishers are entitled to invent their own series of abbreviations for the names of the books of the Bible, in their publication and in the cross-reference margin and notes, which is usually copyrighted by the printer, or by the author. The proofreaders are responsible to try to ensure that the abbreviations are used consistently in the printed documents. You must ensure that your references are correct in the Bible available for use by the readers in the translation language.

If you refer to a Bible in another language, please double check the name of the book, the number of the chapter, and the numbering of the verses. Do not expect that the chapter number and verse number will be the same as appears in your printed copy of the KJV Bible.

Select the KJVA King James Version w/ Apocrypha, provided as a download from within e-Sword itself, to see the additional abbreviations used for the other books. After Nehemiah are 1 Esdras 1Es, 2 Esdras 2Es, Tobit Tob, Judith Jdt.
After Esther are 1 Maccabees 1Ma, 2 Maccabees 2Ma, 3 Maccabees 3Ma, 4 Maccabees 4Ma.
After Psalms is Psalm 151, and the Prayer of Manasseh Man.
After Song of Solomon there are two books Wisdom Wis, Sirach Sir.
After Lamentation is Baruch Bar. This includes the Epistle of Jeremy.
The additions to Daniel are in chapter 3 The song of Azariah and the Song of the three young men, chapter 13 The story of Susanna, and chapter 14, The idols Bel and the Dragon.

In the KJVA (1611, 1769), these books appeared between the OT and the NT. Many of the Bibles printed after 1885 removed the cross-references provided by the KJV translators in the margins that referred to verses in the books of the Apocrypha. Some Bible printers also decided not to print the books of the Apocrypha, which had been okayed by the British Parliament, to be read for edification and information, in the Bibles printed for the people of the world in countries where they read English as their vernacular language. The printers often leave out the essential Preface, by the Translators to the Reader, and the dedication of the Bible to King James in the introduction. They usually leave out many other interesting lists, and maps, that were in the KJV-1611 Bible.
You will find a good quality scanned PDF copy of the KJV-1611 at:
https://www.originalbibles.com/the-original-king-james-bible-1611-pdf/

Rick Meyers, the developer of e-Sword, has provided for the display of additional chapters and verses as these are brought to his attention as required for various Bibles that use the verse numbering provided by Robert Stephens in 1551 which differs slightly from the verse numbering in the Geneva Bible, the KJV, and other translations.

Select the e-Sword tab “Option” and “Language”, to select one of the listed 29 languages. The names of the Books and the accompanying abbreviations, including the diacritical modification of the letters, will be listed and can be accessed. The language of the text displayed will be as it was initially loaded into e-Sword. e-Sword does not provide dynamic translation facilities from one language to another.

Please contact Rick Meyers at rick@e-sword.net if you have useful suggestions for further development in e-Sword.
