#44482 Help with fonts

Posted by modulist on 24 May 2023 - 03:05 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

Like Katoog said, you don't need to change the font info in each of the topic files. An easy way to zoom up the font size is to use the little button that looks like a magnifying glass which is just to the left of the list box from which to choose your topic file. Try it and see if it works for you.

Fun fact: this button also appears on the toolbar for every other pane, whether it is the Bible pane, the Dictionary pane, etc.

Edit: sorry the picture looks so small on this post, but if you click it, you will see a larger version.

#44072 new to Mac

Posted by modulist on 17 February 2023 - 01:57 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean that e-Sword is opening up multiple instances or multiple copies at once in different desktops? When I launch e-Sword on the Mac I only ever get one instance. Some more details and maybe screenshots would be helpful.

#42996 Language changed, but not working properly

Posted by modulist on 05 July 2022 - 11:27 AM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

Changing the language of the app will not change the language of the actual content—only the language of the interface (menus, buttons, etc.). You would need to download content in the language you desire. For example, you would need to download Spanish bibles.

#43076 ToolTip and MAC OS

Posted by modulist on 19 July 2022 - 05:18 PM in e-Sword Modules / Resources

The short answer is, no, it is made to run in Windows only. I have tried installing it using PlayOnMac, but couldn't get it to work. I have heard that some people successfully use it with CrossOver, but I have never tried this myself. You can find out more about CrossOver here:

#44642 Help with e-Sword LT

Posted by modulist on 26 June 2023 - 01:28 PM in MySword

You have to double tap on the verse reference (the green underlined part at the beginning of the verse). The very first option you should see in the pop-up menu is "Bookmark."

#44030 Shortcut to open e-Sword at named verse

Posted by modulist on 10 February 2023 - 12:12 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

One solution you might use on Windows is AutoHotKey, which is a scripting language. You could write a script that launches e-Sword, and then when the window appears, automatically types in the particular scripture reference you want into the search box and sends an enter keystroke. It's probably the closest thing you can get to e-Sword automatically opening up to a desired verse.

If you are programatically inclined and want more information about it (and to download the installer), go to their website here: https://www.autohotkey.com/

#43469 E-Sword X does not do what e-sword on pc can.

Posted by modulist on 16 September 2022 - 10:50 AM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

In my experience, I find that the Mac and Windows versions of e-Sword both have their advantages and disadvantages. And it is a shame that the Mac version doesn't allow for more than one topic module in the editor. This is something you would have to bring up to Rick Meyers and suggest as a new feature. You can do so here: https://www.e-sword....mac/contact.htm

Now, as to linkage to your current verse, the topics editor doesn't do that. What you need to use is the Study editor, which is linked to your current verse. Likewise, the journal editor is linked to the current date.

The study editor is sort of like your personal commentary which you write on the current verse.

Hope this was helpful in any way.

#43018 Esword Hotkey App as Developed by Brent Hildebrand

Posted by modulist on 08 July 2022 - 07:17 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

Hi Derek,

Unfortunately, the short answer is no. e-Sword Hotkey will not work on macOS. As far as I know, no one is working on porting this app to run on the Mac. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

#44179 Hebrew Bible for e-Sword X (Mac)

Posted by modulist on 11 March 2023 - 06:31 PM in e-Sword Modules / Resources

Are the .png files necessary to be installed? They will not show up in e-Sword, not being e-Sword module files, and this is why they cannot be imported through the import function. However, if they are necessary for the functioning of the other modules, the location to install them (in case you don't already know) would be ~/Library/Containers/net.e-sword.e-Sword-X/Data/Library/Application Support

This folder is hidden by default, but you can get to it by copying the path provided above, then in the Finder choose from the menu "Go>Go to Folder..." or press Command+Shift+G. Paste the path into the dialog that results, press Return, and, voila, that folder will be opened, ready for you to manually put your stuff in it. Here is where you will find all of the installed e-Sword resources on the Mac.

#44145 Trying to get bible mods to show up in e-sword for ipad pro

Posted by modulist on 03 March 2023 - 07:15 PM in e-Sword Modules / Resources

It should also be known that if you try to send modules that have an abbreviation and name of an official module, they will never show up. I found this out by sending certain modules to my iOS device that I made for my own use, but which normally you have to buy. For example, if you send the NKJV, it won't show up. I don't know if this is the case with you, but it's worth mentioning.

The only workaround that I could find was to alter the abbreviations and names of such modules, such as, to continue the example above, of renaming the module to something like "NKIU" and "N K1ng James Vers10n." This requires the use of an SQLite Browser, but it's really not that hard to do. You could also use "e-Sword Tab Renamer" if you are using Windows.

Again, I don't know if this is the problem you are having, but thought it would be worth mentioning.

#44154 Trying to get bible mods to show up in e-sword for ipad pro

Just as a matter of interest, when it comes to adding resources to either e-Sword LT or HT, in the Menu, do you have a Import menu item?

No, there is no import menu item in e-Sword LT (and I assume in HD either—I don't own an iPad). If you open an e-Sword resource file in iOS, whether in the file system or from an email or from AirDrop, it will automatically open and import into e-Sword. The same goes for macOS—if you double click an e-Sword file in the Finder (the macOS equivalent of Windows Explorer) it will automatically open the file in e-Sword X and import the file into the proper location and it will show up right away among your installed resources.

#44162 Trying to get bible mods to show up in e-sword for ipad pro

I must have made it sound more complicated than it is, but it's really quite simple. Double-clicking on an e-Sword file on the Mac is simpler than in Windows where you have to manually move the file to the right location (unless you use the third-party e-Sword Module Installer). And a resource opening up automatically in iOS and being added to e-Sword also seems pretty darn simple—simpler than an "Import" button. But anyway, it doesn't really matter: each to their own, right.

;)

Plus, I should add that whether e-Sword is simpler to use on one platform over another has nothing to do with the OS, but with how Rick Meyers programmed it. Neither Apple, nor Microsoft, nor Google have anything to do with that.

As to whether iOS or Android is easier to use, my personal opinion is that iOS is more intuitive (and I've used both). I also feel that macOS is more intuitive and simple than Windows (and again, I've used both). But that's just my opinion, and it isn't a slam against any particular operating system. I'm neither a Mac evangelist nor a Windows-basher. It's just a matter of personal preference. Live and let live, right?

#43085 Custom Personal Dictionary - Entry Limit

Posted by modulist on 21 July 2022 - 02:59 PM in e-Sword Modules / Resources

If you wish to share your resource I would advise that you actually compile your dictionary in both formats (dctx and dcti), because there are e-Sword users who use older versions which are not compatible to the newer format, particularly versions 10+, 11+, and I think versions 12.00 and 12.01.

Actually, e-Sword versions 11+ and 12+ are all compatible with the new format of module. Support for HTML formatted modules was one of the new features of e-Sword 11, if I'm not mistaken, and that version came out in 2016, if I remember correctly. So a person would have to have a pretty old version of e-Sword not to be able to use the newer module format. Although, if they're still one of those people clinging to Windows XP, they probably have an old version of e-Sword.

That said, using ToolTip, it's pretty easy to make both formats. It's just a matter of whether a person wants to take the trouble to make both. If somebody was only going to make only one format, then go with the .dcti format. It will be more widely compatible than the old one. I personally found that the new format works better or looks better than the old format, even though the old format is still compatible with e-Sword.

#44466 Mac download not working for Everett's Notes on the Bible

Posted by modulist on 20 May 2023 - 11:31 AM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

First of all, you have to make sure it is the right file for Mac, in this case ending with the extension .cmti. All the info you need will be found in the PDF which can be downloaded here:
