YIKES!  That spreedsheet was frightening.

What I was thinking of is to have the different GK words in a dictionary module.  Then when you clicked on the GK or HEB word in the Bible text, that page would pop up.  The entire verse would appear in the dictionary window, just like it does in the Englishman's Concordance.

Example:  The student would click on AGAPE, and a list of verses would show with the word AGAPE highlighted in each verse.  At the top of the page the useage (noun, verb, etc. along with the strongs number, meaning, roots, etc.).  A LOT OF WORK and a lot of duplication, but it might be handy to work with.

Then, with that list, it would be possible to follow the words usage throughout the New Testament.  Think of a scripture tree, with the different branches shooting out from the main trunk.   Having just scripture references, by themselves, would not serve the same purpose.  I can visualize how it would work, but getting it done is something else.

Years ago I used to use the New Englishman's a lot and found it very helpful.  My knowledge of Hebrew was horribley limited - almost as bad as my English.  LOL

#19085 What Modules do you want for e-Sword

I would like to see the World English Bible.  It is based on the ASV and is not copyrighted.

That translation is already available in the downloads section.

#18409 Needs update: King James Version - Original Language Bibliographic details

Posted by LarryG on 29 August 2013 - 11:33 PM

Thanks Scribe - I'm glad I could bless you, it was a joy to juggle the verbiage!   I must be accurate though, my teacher in this was a soul we all know & love - J. Bond.   One day, only a short time back, I also had a few things to say about that scallywag, Monsieur Robot - the uppity skunk had posted some of my modules with his own name attached!   Yes sir, I was 'hot-to-go', just waiting to write Mr. Module Robot concerning his lack of integrity.  LOL  *sigh*

After being schooled about both my pride and my lack of common sense, I managed to laugh at myself.  Thank you for the blessing Mr. Bond.   It's good we can smile at ourselves and our humanity sometimes, eh?  Blessings. lg

"....I tried Module Robot who originally created the module for e-Sword. Module Robot does not receive messages..."

Good Evening!  It's hard to believe that summer is almost over and we're progressing well into this century, isn't it?  Thirteen years into this century so far - how quickly times passes.

Back on point:  FYI   The Module Robot is a selfish gleaner of eSword modules from around the Internet, a computer program, that acts like a little beagle hunting down rabbits out in the field.  The Module Robot just grabs whatever modules it can find - so if you seek to complain to the software program about quality control...  Well, like the beagle, it just sees the bunny (or module) in a myopically crippled paradigm that ignores quality.  If the software module is built for eSword, than Module Robot seeks ownership.  We, thee & me, are left to our own devices in application of cognizant understanding since the Robot is an idiot savant.

There are certain restrictions about what resources can and cannot be uploaded here.  The owner of this site wishes to promote Christ and works that also promote Christ.

-----------------------------

Restricted Theology
Please do not upload material promoting, advocating, or proselytizing:

  • The Jehovah's Witnesses, Watchtower Society, or other cults.
  • Islam
  • Other material that denies the deity of Jesus Christ. If you're unsure, you may upload anyway, but the material is subject to a review.

Comparison resources are acceptable, as are resources that discuss these religions; but we will not host propaganda for cults. The administrator reserves the right to make the sole determination on resources fitting into these categories.

-----------------------------

However, if you are looking for Christian works dealing with Islam, then may I suggest that you visit this site, "Answering Islam".  They have a pretty good digital library  http://www.answering-islam.org/Books/ .

If you would care to make one of their books into an eSword modules there are many people here who could give you guidence on how to proceed.  Blessings. lg

#18233 Looking for a new project

Posted by LarryG on 11 August 2013 - 04:00 PM

Years ago (early 1980s) I was cruising through the used book stores of Seattle, there used to be several.  Anyway, I came across a mulitvolumne set of books dealing with the numerous diaspora's of Abraham's descendants.  This set of books covered from the time of slavery in Egypt to post WW2.

I would be interested in seeing something along this line, God working out his promises in the history of mankind.  At the time, I thought this set of books was very scholarly and well written - but never bought the books.  They were of the type that sit for years on the bookshelf, waiting for someone to adopt them!  LOL  I just came in an read them, without the adoption credentials (sales receipt).

In-depth histories and biographies are fascinating, as we consider God is in the details.  His promises, for both good and bad, are everywhere to be seen on the stagecraft of human asperations.

#17986 Annoying Chat Room popups

Posted by LarryG on 25 July 2013 - 10:04 PM

Over the time BibleSupport has hosted a 'chat' function I have initiated one conversation, and been the recipient of perhaps10-15 conversations.  Most of the conversations I have been the recipient of were requests for help.  Sometimes I could help - sometimes not.

I believe that 'chat' does have a function on this site, but the constant intrusiveness of 'chat' popups is, for me, the point of contention - or issue.

#17619 E-Sword loading slow

Posted by LarryG on 27 June 2013 - 06:43 AM

Let me tell you a little secret that I have discovered - and I know that this sounds nuts.

When I'm just cruising through eSword, switching from pane to pane, I was having the same problems.  Then I started to make an effort to only use the sliding window bars on the right of every floating window (Bible, Commentary, etc.).  AND, if I wanted to switch from the Bible pane to the Commentary pane, I would preface the move by first clicking on the blue header at the top of the designated pane.

I also started using the 'B', 'C', 'D', 'E' buttons a lot more.  The lock-ups and software freezes were cut back tremendously.  Why?  I haven't a clue, but it worked for me.  Here a jpg screen shot of what I'm speaking of - the shaky red pen markings is what I'm speaking of.

Capture.JPG

Whatever I did, I endeavored to never use my cursor on the window pane itself.  As soon as I did, my eSword started to freeze up again.

Oh, and I also reduced the number of modules the software was asked to load - it had no impact on this problem.  I also doubled my systems RAM - again, no impact.  I also re-installed eSword.  That had a small impact, for about 2-3 days.  Nothing seemed to work, except me watching where I was clicking my cursor...that seems to work, for me at least.  I'm also using Win7 Home Premium with an Intel i5 CPU on a small Asus laptop.  A fine little computer that usually does what I ask it to do without complaint.

EXCELLENT!   Enjoy your family dear brother, I'm absolutly positive that the Lord God is in it!

Can you imagine how Abraham rejoiced in the youth of Isaac, whose name means Laughter?   Surely our Heavenly Father smiles when he interacts with us in a like fashion!  Have a GREAT SUMMER!

#17179 Some of my converted bible files do not appear in version 10

Posted by LarryG on 27 May 2013 - 10:16 AM

Years ago, as I recall, when eSword was in V7 there was a tool that could stream different versions from Crosswire and other sites - then compile an eSword module.  I have used the converter to update those Bibles into V9 and V10 and they worked fine.

The main problem, usually, has been how the module was defined (either on the eSword tab, or on the hard drive).  The file name must be both unique to itself and not like a paid module.

Example:  For the Amplified (from Crosswire) rename the C drive module : Amp (Cross).bblx and the tab Amp (Cross).  Then it should appear.  You can change tab names with this handy little tool.

#16750 The Letters of Samuel Rutherford

Just a note of affirmation:

Rutherfords letters are great reading and have been used for devotional reading by many in the church during the past couple of centuries.

#16629 The Interpreter’s Dictionary of the Bible

How do they justify those prices? It's almost Pharisaical.

Who at any time serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard, and does not eat the fruit of it? Or who tends a flock and does not use the milk of the flock? I am not speaking these things according to human judgment, am I? Or does not the Law also say these things? For it is written in the Law of Moses, "YOU SHALL NOT MUZZLE THE OX WHILE HE IS THRESHING." God is not concerned about oxen, is He?
(1 Corinthians 9:7-9 NAS77)

For the Scripture says, "YOU SHALL NOT MUZZLE THE OX WHILE HE IS THRESHING," and "The laborer is worthy of his wages."
(1 Timothy 5:18 NAS77)

Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and stand he will, for the Lord is able to make him stand.
(Romans 14:4 NAS77)

Do not speak against one another, brethren. He who speaks against a brother, or judges his brother, speaks against the law, and judges the law; but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge of it
. There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and to destroy; but who are you who judge your neighbor?
(James 4:11-12 NAS77)
