This module represents the 1st paper that I wrote for classes that I am taking at http://www.telosonline.org/.
I feel the subject of Messianic prophecy is undervalued today. There are many useful footnotes in the paper to some of the latest work that has been done to demonstrate the Messianic emphasis of the Old Testament. The church needs to rid itself of many of the interpretive practices that are taught in seminaries where we explain away the wording of the text and force it to fit the historical context. We must be filled with awe and wonder at the supernatural revelation in God's word.
THE PROMISED SEED IN THE PENTATEUCH

Introduction
The objective of this paper is to highlight the development of the prophecies concerning the promised "Seed" in the Pentateuch. It will be shown how the promises concerning the seed of Abraham is both collective and singular. It refers both the literal descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as well as to a special individual who will come through them. It is through the individual "Seed" that "all the families of the earth will be blessed. (Gen_12:3). The promised "Seed" will be the one who will bring blessing to the entire world as well as bring to pass the fulfillment of all the promises of the "collective" seed of Abraham.
It will also be shown how the prophecies concerning the "Seed" in the Pentateuch are further developed in the rest of the Old Testament. There are "prophetic echo's" in the Messianic Psalms that connect them with the work of the promised King in the Pentateuch. Prophecies concerning the "Branch" and the "servant of Yahweh" are referring to the same individual. The prophecies concerning the "Servant" show the same pattern that we see in the prophecies concerning the seed.. They often refer to the nation of Israel collectively. However, it is also clear that they often refer to an individual who is going to come from Israel.
The prophecies concerning this individual "Seed" have been partially fulfilled in the first coming of Christ. They do not negate the covenants or prophecies concerning the collective "seed" of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The Bible is clear that this individual "Seed" will bring about the fulfillment of the collective promises to Israel and to all the families of the earth. Who has brought more blessing to all the families of the earth than Jesus? What would the world be like if He never came? The Bible is a unified revelation of this individual who came to mankind and all of creation.
