Strongs and Thayers Concordances use the same numbering scheme in the Search Box. I have a commentary that gives BDB numbers and I have the BDB Dictionary/Concordance downloaded in e-Sword. But I don't know what to put in the Dictionary Search Box to activate the BDB tab.

The BDB dictionary module for e-sword is keyed to Strong's numbers, so you can access it just as you do the Thayers (for Greek), there is a dictionary here that combines Strong’s, BDB, Thayer and the KJC Concordance in one module as well as TVM info and explanations OT H8675-H8853 / NT G5625-G5944.  All in all a very handy module. Here is where to get it:

Thus says the LORD, "Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, (Jeremiah 9:23-24a)

I appreciate Mr. Baunllaw's reply and I did download the dictionaly he suggested. However, since a commentary I use so much uses the BDB numbers, I would like to know how to activate the BDB tab. Mr. Baunllaw says that BDB uses the same numbering system as Thayer, Strong's, and KJC but when I do a search that activates those tabs, my BDB tab is still inactive. I have never seen the BDB active. I don't know what to put in the Dictionary Search Box to activate BDB. Does anyone know how to make this work?

Thanks

Select your BDB dictionary; from the tool bar at the top ot the e-sword window select Information.  If what you get in the pop up is different than this what you see below you have a module I have never seen before and certainly not the one from the e-Sword built in downloader.  I have never seen a copy of BDB that was not keyed to Strongs (if it was numbered), if yours isn't I would like to see a copy for comparison

Brown-Driver-Briggs’ Hebrew Definitions
All of the original Hebrew and Aramaic words are arranged by the numbering system from Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible. In some cases more than one form of the word — such as the masculine and feminine forms of a noun — may be listed.
Each entry is a Hebrew word, unless it is designated as Aramaic.
Immediately after each word is given its equivalent in English letters, according to a system of transliteration.
Next follows the Brown-Driver-Briggs’ Definitions given in English.
Then ensues a reference to the same word as found in Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament (TWOT), by R. Laird Harris, Gleason L. Archer, Jr., and Bruce K. Waltke. This section makes an association between the unique number used by TWOT with the Strong’s number.

(Finding a copy of the TWOT is difficult though, and IT is not keyed to Strongs.)

Mr. Banulaw, I followed your suggestion and the info about my BDB is word for word, exactly like yours. And yet It never becomes an active tab. I dont remember if it were someting that e-Sword offered or if I got it from Bible Support.com. Sounds like I have a corrupted file so I'll see where it came from and will download a new copy. If that doesn't work, I still have the "One Dictionary".  Thanks so much or your help!

BTW, my name is Tim...  Baunllaw is a screen name I adopted about 20 years ago because I didn't want a bunch of numbers after my screen name (that tends to happen with a common name like Tim).

You most likely downloaded it via the downloader built in to e-Sword.  From the top menu select Download, select Dictionaries, it should be the first option listed.

If you select Options from that top menu then select Strong's # Tooltip you can change the default Strong’s number window to any of your dictionaries (I set mine to the combined dictionary we discussed) that way no matter if you are studying the New Testament or Old, you have two dictionaries side by side so to speak for comparison.
