I'm sure like most of you, I really like e-Sword, what a great tool for study. I do wish it was a fully portable app though, download the .zip, extract, done - oh well.
I hope to be able to create my own modules, I'll ask questions about that in another thread I suppose.

Glad to have you on our site. Thanks for saying "hi".
For module creation, I recommend Tooltip. Tooltip is an e-Sword word processor, allowing you to see text in a What-you-see-is-what-you-get environment. With Toolip, you can specify which text is verse comments, chapter comments, or book comments for a commentary. Tooltip also makes Bible modules, Topic modules, Dictionary modules, etc.
Tooltip includes basic documentation to get you started. After installing Tooltip, check your My Documents/e-sword tooltip folder.
Depending on what type of resource you want to create, I can give you a template to get you started. When you get to that point, feel free to ask for help.

I don't think I'll create anything as in depth as a Bible but I would like to create modules that are more dynamic than a Topic module. I want to create study modules that utilize links to Bible text (click the verse, opens in the default bible), maybe even add small graphics, not a graphics module per se'. I hope I can do what I'm imagining, basically something more than formatted text, using live links, and small images to add a bit of spark to an otherwise plain (or RTF) document.
The sources are varied, any source I can use (public domain of course). A friend of mine who is a pastor, author, etc, has online sermon notes, topical studies, I would like to try one of these to see how it goes. I've been given the green light that it is OK to use this material.
I'll download Tooltip and try it out. Btw, I might PM you if I get stuck. I would also like to see what templates you have, when I get there

We can't add embedded images to e-Sword yet. The e-Sword developer is working on an overhaul of the Topics functionality. That capability may come with e-Sword 10. I currently link to images by storing the images on the web server and placing a hyperlink in the topic.
Some of your friend's material might fit nicely in a commentary module, if the comments can be divided by verses, chapters, and/or books. That's something to think about as well.

Let's hope so.We can't add embedded images to e-Sword yet. The e-Sword developer is working on an overhaul of the Topics functionality. That capability may come with e-Sword 10.
I'll try commentary first. Other than the 'type' of module, they all appear to function the same, Bible, Commentary, Dictionary...?Some of your friend's material might fit nicely in a commentary module...
The 'Topic' modules I have seem like basic text files, not very dynamic, and function different when opened in the editor - I couldn't figure out in 'what' to open the *.topx files - the editor worked. I downloaded the latest e-Sword manual, v991, which Rick should have something offered with e-Sword, it's not necessarily intuitive how to navigate at first blush.
I wont bug you anymore for now I'll have a look at Tooltip and have a go at a basic commentary module.
Thanks for the help. If I get anything done worth mentioning I'll try to upload, no promises though - noob here

For a short but easy to understand commentary template for Tooltip, scroll to my message #5 in the linked thread below and download the template:I'll try commentary first. Other than the 'type' of module, they all appear to function the same, Bible, Commentary, Dictionary...?

The editor you mentioned is not only the editor but the Topics viewer as well. And you are right, that part of the screen is confusing. I receive more questions on Topics modules than all other questions combined. The manual addresses how to navigate Topics modules, where the Table of Contents is, etc. but it doesn't deal with module creation (yet). The 'Topic' modules I have seem like basic text files, not very dynamic, and function different when opened in the editor - I couldn't figure out in 'what' to open the *.topx files - the editor worked.
