If I may offer this little thought as to the purpose of this site. I believe that it is to find modules for E-Sword for research and study, and not for wrangling regarding Theological issues. I have many modules in my E-Sword library ranging from Conservative to Liberal if one must label their belief system. None of us here from the top down know everything and have all the great theological  answers. We also don't totally understand God nor His Word, that's why we are told to study. Their are other forums for debate. Josh has done a superb job along with his staff to take this site to a higher ground than past module sites which were the ground for ideology debates and fights surrounding the word of God..which according to Paul's advice to Timothy was not to be! i am so glad Josh did away with such foolishness. We ALL now have a place to gather tools for study and assistance with E-Sword..Thank God for leading such men as the staff here to KEEP it BibleSupport and not Family Fued.

#11459 Post e-Sword Module Requests Here

Posted by RickB on 05 August 2012 - 08:24 PM

The dictionary is split among 120 PDF files. So I took the first PDF file and wrote all the code necessary to automate a large part of it's conversion to e-Sword format. The resulting dictionary file is a sample proof of concept (similar to what I did with Lange's at first), but only for the first PDF file--which is the first 291 entries for the letter "A".  (See Attached file).

The major thing I noticed is file size. With the images, this first of 120 files is over 3 megs...times 120 files roughly  = 300 megabytes. I have real concerns about e-Sword technical ability to handle that size of a dictionary. e-Sword dictionaries consume a lot of memory (ram), and I just foresee massive problems for a number of people.

Without the images, the file size on this first file is 720k...times 120 files roughly = 100 megabytes of text. Now, that IS manageable. It would have some 31,000 entries and that's also manageable for e-Sword.

So I may make two versions of this resource for e-Sword: one with images and one without images.

I'll also make this resource for theWord with images (just one resource with images), as file size does not seem detrimental to its performance (and it lets me compress modules) so file size isn't as critical.

Josh

I think that 2 separate modules would be super, as for one i am not as interested in the graphics as the text. Just my take

#11239 No Hell Bible Translations

Posted by RickB on 28 July 2012 - 11:04 AM

I am collecting information regarding Bible translations produced over the centuries which have transliterated the words often translated Hell in the more popular English Bible translations. Also those who have translated aion/aionios as a period of time instead of everlasting, forever, etc. I usually go to Matt. 25:46 and Revelation 20:10 to see how they translated aion and its adjective aionios. Then I see whether they translated or transliterated sheol, hades, gehenna and tartarus.

Some of the mainstays that have departed from the "traditional" manner are Young's Literal, Rotherham's Emphasized, Twentieth Century N.T., Weymouth's N.T., Concordant Literal, etc. I have about thirty English translations that don't have the concept of Hell or everlasting punishment in my collection. I'm looking for more. Soooo. If anyone would like to help me find more of these types of translations, please pass them on to me, especially if they are in public domain.

Now some translations have transliterated the Hell words but kept the concept of everlasting punishment by translating phrases like aionion kolasis as "everlasting punishment." Therefore they could not be considered truly "no hell" translations. So I'm interested in both, those who have transliterated the hell words but have not translated aion/aionios as everlasting, forever, etc. and those who have done both, transliterated the hell words and also translated aion/aionios as time words instead of words implying forever, everlasting, etc. Thanks, Gary

One that come to my mind at once in The New World Translation, by the Jehovah's Witnesses. It is not in Public domain, but there are some other sites that have it as a E-Sword module. I used to use this site until, in my opinion he mostly complains that he has to make ESword modules even if he does't use the program.
That is just my take..but this Translation would be one that would suit what you are looking for. It would never be on this site because it does not meet the criteria here.

#10449 Converting E-Sword modules to Mysword

Posted by RickB on 26 June 2012 - 01:51 PM

Hi pgrimm,

MySword is not pursuing premium translations at this time.  There is no place to buy them.  Their focus is on software development and distribution of free resources with the limited resources they have.

It is violation of the e sword license to convert e sword premium modules to another software.

Personally I have grown dissalusioned with the comercialization of the Word of God and try to use free translations like LHB, EMTV, LOGOS, ISV, WPNT, KJV, and NHEB.

Blessings,
Peter

I agree, the word of God should not be commercialized. But I think that for the most part, this is Not Rick's doing, but rather big publishing houses, i.e. Nelson;s is one i can think of right off. Personally all this copyright stuff to me is bogus, as the real copyright holder for the Bible is God Himself!

Posted by RickB on 31 May 2012 - 08:34 PM

Ditto!!!! I agree totally regarding the use of esword, to futher the Kingdom, to help us understand HIS will, and above all Honor HIM!!!
All of the above names are doing just  that...I absolutely do not understand RFT and such and such, but what I do understand is that some great God honoring modules have been made by you very humble men of God, that we can use to do the expressed will of God, and I will leave the know how and resourcing to Josh and his very capable men and women who by aid of Holy Spirit do all the tech stuff for us. May our Great God and Savior continue to use you and bless you, and great will be your reward when our savior we see face to face. Again TY TY Josh, DSaw, Bradley, Dr Dave Ebed, Patchwork, et all for what you accomplish through our God.

I don't want to leave Stephen out, Brother I love you in Christ. you have brought many a smile to my face, that i have needed, you all may not know this, but i am disabled by Cancer, living one day at a time by His grace....all of you here have  brought me joy uncompared, and i am far richer for knowing you all...
Excuse my momentary emotionalism...
God Bless you all

I would like to thank all of you brothers and sisters in the Lord who are laboring hard to get these great tools in our hands. Your hard work is not in vain as this man has benefited greatly from your work on these modules. Thank you all, and may God richly bless you for helping to edify his body.

#9626 Lange's Commentary for e-Sword

Posted by RickB on 30 May 2012 - 09:51 AM

I have the same setup as you do, and mine is working flawlessly. Try this - make sure the new one is decompressed in your main e-Sword directory - reboot your computer and fire up e-Sword. Maybe it was a database glitch of some sort that will be cured with the reboot. I hope this helps.

Thank you all for your patience and help. I finally was successful, all is well. It appears that there was indeed a clich. After I deleted all traces of it, ran a cleaner, defraged it worked flawlessly. Again, TY Josh DSaw and Tom for all your assistance

#9495 Lange's Commentary for e-Sword

Posted by RickB on 26 May 2012 - 11:59 AM

It is finished. I estimated 2 weeks and it took 2 months. :) It would have taken 2 years (or 20 years) without Brent Hildebrand's ToolTip NT. And a special thanks for "Raymond" for his help earlier today!

I hope you guys enjoy Lange's Commentary, along with the Memorial Day weekend.

It is a wonderful addition to my esword collection, i have already used it with great success on one of my Bible studies. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you do Josh. You are definately a blessing to all of us who use Esword.

#9370 E. W. Bullinger Lexicon

Posted by RickB on 22 May 2012 - 03:43 PM

A Critical Lexicon and Concordance to the English and Greek New Testament E. W. Bullinger

here is the best full source i could find

http://bluehost.leve...inger/index.htm

problem this site displays the page imageso each image would have top be saved before running it through omnipage

google has a PDF but the scan of it is terrible whole pages have the text cut off

so I have two Questions

1. is this work something eSword user want

2. is this a work someone is willing to produce

currently I dont have the time I'm working on a manual greek lexicon when done my next project is Liddell scott GOD willing

Liddell and Scott would be wonderful if it was tool tipped with strongs for easier useage for those of us that can't read Greek. Bullingers would be nice also

I too agree that this site is a God send for sure. Though i have a multiplicity of Bible programs and i use them all as i study minimizing them until i exhust E-Sword which is my primary base program. As i am disabled i spend many hours studying the Bible, in many diifferent ways. So welcome to Bible support, it is the place to build a great resourse tool. A big thanks to Josh for his tireless work to make this site as blessing to us all. BUT all the glory mgoes to our great God for his appropriate use of these men.

#2167 An e-Sword Magazine, what do you think?

Posted by RickB on 18 September 2011 - 04:41 PM

Well said Stephen, I have several Bible software on my laptop and PC, most of them are fully loaded, I am disabled and spend many hours at study of the Bible. I am most comfortable with  E-sword. I have had it since 2006 and watched it grow into one of the best. I was with the other site, though i had my troubles there. I must say that this site is head and shoulders above the other, nuff said. I enjoy the tips and help here as I am not technical at all. I would love a magazine that could go even deeper.
Thanks Josh for making a difference, as well as all the staff that contribute
here.
May God continue to richly bless you all, and Stephen may he give you the wisdom in your endeavor
