Hi I have downloaded the update of Langes it went fine until I opened Esword and clicked on the tab for it in Commentaries, my computer froze and it said Esword was not responding. Each time after the program was closed I opened it up again and eveything worked except Langes, whenever i clicked Langes it froze. I deleted it from C:Program files/Esword. Everything worked fine, but no Langes of course. I miss it already and wish I had not done the update as the first one worked fine. I tried to download it again, but the same thing happened. I run Windows Vista Home, 64. Anyway i can get the old one back, or any ideas?

Resorting the verse comments couldn't cause e-Sword to freeze, at least no reason I can think of. I can't reproduce it on Windows 7. I'll try it on Windows Vista when I get access to a Vista machine.

What verse passage in the commentary does it happen to be opening when e-Sword starts and freezes? And you're using e-Sword 10.1?

For what ever my opinion is worth I agree with Josh

it's a possibility it might be on your HD if you want to test the old one you should have it already in a zip or exe that you downloaded 1st

May God change our hearts to what the truth is

2Ti_2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Rom_9:16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

2Ti 2:24-25  And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

The file size of lange.cmtx for this version should be: 174,336

If yours does not match that, maybe try downloading it again.

I have updated the commentary file in the Lange download--thanks to Niobi pointing this out. I forgot e-Sword 10.1 shows multiple comments for a single passage in the order shown in the database (as opposed to doing it's own sort, like it used to). That's a good thing, as it gives me more flexibility when making modules.

5/28/2012 - Version 2: Updated the sort order of verse comments so e-Sword 10.1 displays multiple comments for a single verse passage in the correct order (this is another reason why you need e-Sword 10.1 to use this commentary).Practical example: Comments for Isa 8:1-11 (or whatever) shows first, followed by the general Doctrinal section that applies to Isa chapters 7-12. There were a number of other passages effected as well. But all is fixed now.

Hi Josh,
W i c k e d! That is in as "Cool dude!"

Outside of that, great stuff to have that issue fixed up.

Given any question of the meaning of a word for NT studies, BGAD should take precedence over Liddell-Scott, simply because by the time of the NT, words didn't always mean the same thing as what they meant during the classical period (centuries earlier)

Hi Basil,
On that basis, I quite agree with you. The only bit of what you have said here in where I would differ (which when push comes to shove isn't a biggie), is in the fact that BGAD should not take precedence of any previous work. If anything I am prone to think and believe that it should do, is to enhance a previous work, and if it does that, then one is really cooking with gas, bro. What a way to go :D

I have the same setup as you do, and mine is working flawlessly. Try this - make sure the new one is decompressed in your main e-Sword directory - reboot your computer and fire up e-Sword. Maybe it was a database glitch of some sort that will be cured with the reboot. I hope this helps.

Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV)
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Thank you all for your patience and help. I finally was successful, all is well. It appears that there was indeed a clich. After I deleted all traces of it, ran a cleaner, defraged it worked flawlessly. Again, TY Josh DSaw and Tom for all your assistance

I can confirm that loading Lange in e-Sword 10.0.5 results in e-Sword freezing. I believe it will freeze in any 10.x version prior to 10.1, but I've only tested 10.0.5. This is because versions below e-Sword 10.1 did not support hyperlinks in the commentary window (which Langes has many of).

I'll change my wording in the file description to say 10.1 is required. (You can probably use 9.x to view the commentary but you will not have footnote numbers or links.)

Josh,
I know you would have tested it, but I can also confirm that the hyperlinks does work in e-Sword 10.1.0.

In regards to older versions, my view and recommendation is, do not use this commentary in any version below the current one. I think that about says it all.

Thanks for this amazing commentary - what an incredible amount of work you must have done to complete it! In a work of this magnitude, the odd error is inevitable and I guess you'd like to hear about any, so that the work can be as perfect as possible. Reading through John's Gospel, I found ch 11:1-16 is missing. If I come across anything else, I'll let you know.
Thanks again for your hard work and generosity to all of us!
Phil
