#44444 Esword for Nook, Kindle or Android

Posted by APsit190 on 16 May 2023 - 03:01 AM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

e-Sword FOR ANDROID. Since this forum was begun in 2012, Rick Meyers, an independent developer has released e-Sword for Android in January 2022. These use Modules where the coding has been done in HTML format. Older modules where the coding was in RTF format, for e-Sword for the PC, with filename having the file type with the last of four letters as “x”, such as bibles (bblx), and commentaries (cmtx), do not work.

The files that work all have the filename having the file type with the last of four letters as “i”, such as bibles (bbli), commentaries (cmti). These new files are coded in HTML, and also work with e-Sword for the PC after e-Sword version 11, 12, or 13, and are also compatible with e-Sword for Apple devices such as the Apple Mac, Apple iPad and Apple iPhone. This e-Sword for Android has to be purchased, as it is provided from the Google Play store, as “e-Sword: Bible Study to Go”.

A list of the latest currently available versions of e-Sword is supplied by BibleSupport.com at http://www.biblesupp...ons-of-e-sword/

Access the website of Rick Meyers the developer at https://www.e-sword.net/ select the LINKS option, select the version of e-Sword, read the FAQ replies, and the FEATURES options. There is an android tutorial at https://www.e-sword....id/tutorial.htm From that website you will find the link to the required download module. Suggestions of how to provide more useful options can be made to the developers at https://www.e-sword.net/android/contact.htm

Hey Olaf,

I think that Fred would pretty much know that e-Sword for droid is available, and may have even downloaded it quite a while ago, as in when it was released.

I think you're a bit late in the game to let him know. Should've done it last year.

#44446 Esword for Nook, Kindle or Android

Posted by APsit190 on 16 May 2023 - 03:38 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

Yes, APsit190, I agree with you totally, that you should have followed up your previous 2012 replies to this entry in the Bible Support forum, last year.

Not really, and the reason being that the response was correct for that time. And moreover, BibleSupport members have been informed and as such have been made well aware of the release e-Sword for Droid last year. Those who may not know are either dead or no longer active, or have given up on waiting and may possibly be using some other (PUKE) product.

Remember that when e-Sword HT and LT was released, there was a call for an Android edition to be made. And at that we were informed that wasn't going to happen. Then when it was released and advertised, it was a total (nice and fantastic) surprise to all of us.

#44458 log out suggestion

Posted by APsit190 on 18 May 2023 - 11:13 AM in Website Feedback

As far as I am aware all web browsers have a built in password manager. I know that regarding the three major we browsers:

  1. Firefox
  2. Edge
  3. and Chrome

have password managers, where passwords can be saved and websites stored.

I use them because it saves me time having to manually type in my username and password for those websites, such as this one. Moreover, when having multiple passwords for each website, the password manager really come in where it saves you the hassle of trying to remember a password for a particular site, as it loads it up and automatically signs you in. Something I like doing. Call me lazy, but I just like the convenience and not worry about remembering passwords.

#44473 E Sword No internet connection on Wine Arch Linux

Posted by APsit190 on 23 May 2023 - 03:58 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

Due to the fact that e-Sword is a program designed for the Windows operating system, running it on foreign operating systems via WINE and etc does cause some technical conflicts and difficulties. Moreover because there are an X amount Linux distros floating around, what may function reasonably well on one distro, could possibly crap out on another distro. Not only that, but also the chances that Rick Meyers will develop an e-Sword edition for Linux is less than 0%; mainly because of the X amount of distros running around. It gets all confusing. What may work on one, won't work on others, and therein we have a problem.

So, my suggestion to overcome your issues is that you get a Windows machine, such as like a Laptop, and use it for e-Sword, and other Windows based software you may wish to use, and keep your Linux Desktop PC for whatever you need it for your Linux stuff. At least that way you avoid those difficulties you are encountering.

Now, I am aware that I may have egregiously committed blasphemy by what I said. But the reality is, trying to do what you want to do will never work out 100% all the time. Sorry to give you that bad news. Facts can be a real pain in the thingy. It is what it is! (whatever that means).

#44485 Are Toolbars within each window editable?

Posted by APsit190 on 25 May 2023 - 07:24 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

I would like to move the "search" button [binoculars] to the right of the search field on the far right of the toolbar in the Bible Search window.  Is this possible?  See attached screen capture.

Thanks,

Tori

Hi Tori,

The Answer is "No." All the toolbar buttons are fixed.

I think your idea has some merit, but that's just me. Personally, I like the idea of having the ability to customize/edit toolbars and menus. There's just something about adjusting things to make it better for oneself rather than going along with whatever the default settings are. And that would include the way one wants the layout of the main interface in e-Sword to be like (see screenshot below to see how I have it).

e-s_All 1030.PNG

And this is the way I like it, and it works really well for me.

But going back to what you would like to be able to do and have. I think do what Olaf suggested, and see what Rick Meyers has to say. I think he's pretty much open to suggestions, and if he likes it and thinks that its a good idea; then you could possibly see it in the next version of e-Sword.

By the way, keep us informed of any news you get from Rick.

#44502 Getting a pdf into e-Sword on my iPad

Posted by APsit190 on 28 May 2023 - 08:01 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

Unfortunately I am a Mac user, so I suppose I am out of luck on creating this Topic or Reference module for use in e-sword.

If anyone would like to try I will enclose the PDF file.attachicon.gif613-laws-2.pdf

Thank you for your help.

By the way, you do have have a Topic Note Editor in e-Sword X, so the best way you can do that is simply copy and paste the text into your Topic Note Editor, and save it giving it 's own unique file name. Then press Ctrl (or whatever key it is on your Mac keyboard) and right click and click on Convert to Reference Book... in the popup menu (assuming that there is such a function on e-Sword X).

This is the simplest method than going down the Crossover and ToolTip Tool NT route.

Not only that, you can load that topi file to your iPhone and/or your iPad (assuming you have e-Sword LT (iPhone) and or e-Sword HT (iPad) on any or both of these  devices).

By the way, there are video helps on YouTube relating to what you want to do on e-Sword X.

Hope this proves helpful to you.

Blessings,

Stephen (Php 1:21).

#44518 NEWS e-Sword Bible Study For Android

Posted by APsit190 on 04 June 2023 - 08:27 AM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

Hi, I've converted and transferred whatever I want from PC to Android.  The only ones I'm unable to do my own Harmony files (HARX).  The conversion utility doesn't work on them.  Am I missing something?

Thanks

Going by what I can see the Droid edition of e-Sword doesn't handle Harmony files (and neither does e-Sword HT or LT). Looks like that is being left for e-Sword PC edition and e-Sword X (which would be an hari file).

#44524 NEWS e-Sword Bible Study For Android

Posted by APsit190 on 05 June 2023 - 07:05 AM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

For authoritative answers to your question about HARMONY FEATURE on Android, please go to the source to discover for which versions of e-Sword the developer, Rick Meyers, supplied the harmony features.

Here is how to find out. Go to the website of Rick Meyers, who developed e-Sword for the PC. https://www.e-sword.net/ Browse down the page, and you can also see this Features section by selecting the tab FEATURES which will take you to https://www.e-sword....x.html#features

For more details on e-Sword – Bible Study for the PC, the ABOUT tab supplies the history of the development of features for e-Sword. Here you will read that in December 2006, when e-Sword 7.8 was released, a Gospel Harmony tool was provided. https://www.e-sword.net/history.html

From April 2009, with the release of e-Sword version 9.0, a completely new database architecture was implemented to supply access to the bible, commentary, dictionary, and Study Notes modules.

For e-Sword X for the Mac, select the LINKS tab, and select the required choice to e-Sword X – Bible Study for the Mac. Then page down, or select the FEATURES tab, to see that the GOSPEL HARMONY feature is provided. https://www.e-sword....ex.htm#features

For e-Sword HD for the iPad, select the LINKS tab, and select the required choice to e-Sword HD – Bible Study for the iPad. Then page down, or select the FEATURES tab, and GOSPEL HARMONY is shown as one of the features available. https://www.e-sword....ex.htm#features

For e-Sword LT for the iPhone, select the LINKS tab, and select the required choice to e-Sword LT – Bible Study for the iPhone, Then page down. Or select the FEATURES tab, and the GOSPEL HARMONY option has not been shown. https://www.e-sword....ex.htm#features

For e-Sword for Android, select the LINKS tab, then select the required choice to e-Sword Android – Bible Study for Android. Then page down, and you can also select the FEATURES tab and then notice that the GOSPEL HARMONY feature is provided. https://www.e-sword....ex.htm#features

For more details about the existing conversion facilities in the e-Sword PC Module Converter Utility, please read the FAQ entries, and if the answer to your query is not there, then contact Rick Meyers directly, on the relevant CONTACT option.

Your font is so small, I doubt that anyone can actually read it. I know that I have real difficult in reading it, mainly my Glaucoma really prevents me from reading it.

From what I can gather by what you are saying is that when it comes to what can be or can't be used on e-Sword for Droid, basically anyone with any common sense can tell you what is or what is not, or what works or what doesn't work. It seriously doesn't take much to figure it out.

For Droid phones it appears Harmonies are not available. For Droid Tablets it appears that it is available. So one has be to careful as to distinguish between phone and Tablet.

#44537 NEWS e-Sword Bible Study For Android

Posted by APsit190 on 06 June 2023 - 10:28 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

If you use Microsoft Edge browser, then your device ought to provide you with the option to zoom the window to be able to see the text in larger fonts. Microsoft is now collaborating with Adobe, to provide Read Aloud for more operating systems when the reader is viewing a PDF file.

Olaf,

I don't use Edge because it's a hacker's dream Web Browser.

For about 20 years my pet Browser has been and is Firefox, and according to Mozilla, its way more secure than Edge. As to how true that is, well that's anyone's guess. I just like it way better than Edge or Chrome. Totally one eyed and biased. :D ^_^

#44542 Installed Bible Never Showed Up - BIBi (PC) Berean Interlinear Bible 5-Layer...

Posted by APsit190 on 07 June 2023 - 04:23 PM in e-Sword Modules / Resources

ElderB,

Thanks for taking your time to help me out. Unfortunately, I did that and the bible still doesn't show up. The Notes file is there, but not the bible.

Van

Although it hasn't been mentioned or said outright, my guess is that you're trying to install a Bible file with a .bbli extension to use in e-Sword PC. So, if that is the case, then here is a really dumb or stupid idea that just might work. Give it a go, and see what happens... So, instead of trying it with a .bbli file, why not try it with the file type that is actually made for e-Sword PC, which is a........ wait for it .......... bblx file.

Yeah, I know! It's just really dumb, and the most irrational and stupid thing to do, eh.

#44543 Installed Bible Never Showed Up - BIBi (PC) Berean Interlinear Bible 5-Layer...

Posted by APsit190 on 07 June 2023 - 05:01 PM in e-Sword Modules / Resources

ElderB,

Something you seriously need to know:

  • bbli file type is not, let me repeat and emphasize, is not the default type for e-Sword PC
  • bblx file type is the default file type for e-Sword PC both irrespective and despite the fact that a bbli file can be viewed on e-Sword PC
  • The bbli file type is the default extension for
    • e-Sword LT and HT on Apple's iOS devices
    • e-Sword X on macOS devices
    • e-Sword Android devices.

Bearing this in mind, it is important that when it comes to resources for e-Sword PC, it is best practice to stick to the default extensions made for that particular version.

Remember: bbli, cmti, and etc file types are not the default extensions for e-Sword PC.

So, with that said, I recommend that you actually produce resources  designed for the particular edition of e-Sword it is made for:

  • e-Sword PC: bblx, cmtx, dctx, etc.
  • e-Sword HT, LT, X, and Android: bbli, cmti, dcti, etc.

Trust you find this helpful.

Blessings,

Stephen (Php 1:21).

#44549 Jan Hus of Bohemia - The Moravian Church

Posted by APsit190 on 10 June 2023 - 05:31 PM in Just Saying Hi

With regard to Post #7; by and large I think in all sincerity that it should be moved over to the Theological Discussion section because what is being discussed has no relevance to e-Sword per se. And moreover (from what I've just observed) I even question the relevance it has to this section:  Just Saying Hi. Seriously, you cannot make this up!

Totally whacked!

#44557 Installed Bible Never Showed Up - BIBi (PC) Berean Interlinear Bible 5-Layer...

Posted by APsit190 on 12 June 2023 - 06:16 PM in e-Sword Modules / Resources

Thanks for everyone's help. I was using .bbli instead of bblx, because I didn't know any better. I'm still new here. Also, the tip about using lower case extensions is new to me. God bless you all!

Van

Lower case has always been used on the file's extension going right back to the days of DOS (1980s, 1990s, and early 21st Century) of which at that time the limit of the size of the filename a maximum of 8 characters and 3 characters for the extension. The filename speaks for itself, and the extension defines the type of file it is. The limitations to filenames and extensions were due to the amount of bits and bytes the CPU could handle. With that said, believe it or not, the history of computers goes way back to 1937. That is freaky! I didn't even know that until just a very few short minutes ago.

So, if you're interested, click here to explore the timeline of the development of computers, and click here for the history of the OS (Operating Systems) for computers.

I trust you find this interesting and helpful.

#44573 MySword No Longer Available on Play Store

Posted by APsit190 on 14 June 2023 - 05:28 PM in MySword

You are way out of line sir, respectfully you have no idea of the back story and the details and neither do I. and for you to bear false witness and accuse them of greed is way over the Christian line. A laborer is worth their hire and a days labor is worth a days pay. Maybe you otta worry about developing better tools for esword for apple because i paid for it and its a hot piece of garbage. the layout sucks, the abbreviations for books and its layout is unintuitive and the inability to port over your notes, bibles and other features you spent time putting into your pc esword and paid bibles without being able to make them mobile to an app you paid for is just plain broken and frustrating at best. Mysword free version is way better than the paid version of esword hands down. so put that paid version of android esword in your greed pipe and smoke it. i deleted the paid version of esword and use free mysword.

About the only thing that is missing from the Android edition of e-Sword is the Topic Note editor. Add that in then everything will be pretty much to par with the PC edition of e-Sword. The only other thing that needs improvement it the ability to create multiple study notes, then I'd be a happy camper.

Now, with that said, best part about having e-Sword for Droid, is the fact all the official files you have on your desktop version, you have for your Droid version. Moreover, what premium resources you have bought for your desktop edition of e-Sword, you can install on your Droid edition without paying for them again. The great thing about this is that you have a seamless study method to where you are able to interact between your PC and Phone or Tablet.

Now here is even the best part. I use Samsung Android devices: both phone and tablet. Now, particularly with my phone, I can run my phone on my Desktop using Microsoft's Phone Link on my Desktop, and directly interact between PC and Phone using both editions of e-Sword. So, because I have the same resources on my phone as on my PC, this makes it a real dream come true for when it comes to cross referencing information.

At the moment I cant use my tablet because e-Sword for Droid is not compatible due to it being pretty old (about 8 years I think).

So looking at all of this, I can definitely say I know which side my bread is buttered, and so blessed by it.

Blessings,
