#4372 Instructions for Making Your Own MySword Modules

Posted by pfpeller on 06 December 2011 - 09:21 PM

Here is how to make your own MySword modules:

Eventually when I get time I will add some screenshots and more detail.

Step 1

Download the migration tools from www.mysword.info on their downloads page. They will install in the c directory under MySwordMigrationTools.
http://www.mysword.i...migration-tools

Step 2 (For E sword module migration only)
If you are converting an e sword module, you need to download the theWord importer here:
http://www.theword.n...tools&l=english
You need to install and use this module to import the e sword file to a theWord file.

Step 3  theWord file preparation for existing theWord files (if you started with an e sword file, go to step 4)

To complete this step you will need some familiarity with theWord Bible software from http://www.theword.net/

For existing theWord files, you need to make sure that the module is not compressed and not encrypted.  You can decompress a theWord module by opening theWord, finding the module, and right clicking on the module abbreviation to open the module properties.  From the 2nd tab you can uncheck the module compression and it will decompress the theWord module

Step 4  Paste the theWord module into the MySword migration tools folder

Step 5 For 64 bit Windows operating systems

Copy and paste the System.Data.SQLite.DLL file from the x64 folder in MySword migration tools into the main MySword migration tools folder.  This will overwrite the file that is for 32 bit versions of Windows.

Step 6 Open command prompt and navigate to the MySwordMigration Tools Directory (you may not need to do this step, see instructions for the module you are trying to make below first)

Once you have a theWord module in the MySwordMigrationTools Folder, then go to go to start/run and enter cmd and press enter to bring up the command prompt.

Once you are inside the command prompt, I always enter "cd .."  without the quotes twice to get back to the main C: directory.
Enter "CD MySwordMigrationTools" without the quotes and press enter to change to MySwordMigrationTools directory.

Step 7 Create the MySword Module using the procedure for the appropriate module type below
Migrating TheWord Bible Modules

From the MySword migration tools folder drag and drop the theWord file on top of the theWordBible2MySword.exe file and the command prompt may open automatically and create the MySword file.  If this does not work, try the steps below.

In the Command Prompt, if the module to be migrated is bbe.ont and is
placed in the same folder where the executables are, type the following:

TheWordBible2MySword bbe.ont

This will create bbe.bbl.mysword. You can now just copy this file into your
selected Modules Path/Folder in your Android device.

Please note that the TheWord .ot, .nt or .ont file must be in UTF-8 format
for the migration to be successful unless only 7-bit ASCII characters are
in the file. To determine if the file is in UTF-8 format, you can open it
in Notepad++ and go to the Encoding menu. To change the format to UTF-8
format, select Encoding->Convert to UTF-8 without BOM, then save the file.
You can also opt to use UTF-8 with BOM if you want. After this, you can now
use TheWordBible2MySword.

You can also check the resulting SQLite database outside MySword by using
Firefox SQLite Manager plugin/extension. Open the migrated file and check
the contents by going to Bible table and selecting Browse & Search tab.
Check if there are no problems with the text.

Migrating TheWord Commentary Modules

From the MySword migration tools folder drag and drop the theWord file on top of the theWordCommentary2MySword.exe file and the command prompt may open automatically and create the MySword file.  If this does not work, try the steps below.

In the Command Prompt, if the module to be migrated is tsk.cmt.twm and is
placed in the same folder where the executables are, type the following:

TheWordCommentary2MySword tsk.cmt.twm

This will create tsk.cmt.mysword. You can now just copy this file into your
selected Modules Path/Folder in your Android device.

You can also use Firefox SQLite Manager plugin/extension to see the output
SQLite database without using MySword. Check the Commentary table.

Migrating TheWord Dictionary Modules

From the MySword migration tools folder drag and drop the theWord file on top of the theWordDictionary2MySword.exe file and the command prompt may open automatically and create the MySword file.  If this does not work, try the steps below.

In the Command Prompt, if the module to be migrated is eastons.dct.twm and
is placed in the same folder where the executables are, type the following:

TheWordDictionary2MySword eastons.dct.twm

This will create eastons.dct.mysword. You can now just copy this file into
your selected Modules Path/Folder in your Android device.

You can also use Firefox SQLite Manager plugin/extension to see the output
SQLite database without using MySword. Check the Dictionary table.

Migrating TheWord Book/Devotional/Graphics Modules

TheWord General Book (*.gbk.twm) Devotional (*.dev.twm) and Maps/Graphics
(*.map.twm) all have the same format and can be migrated to MySword v.2.0
Journal or Book format (*.bok.mybible). This migration program will
automatically use the extention .bok.mybible but you can always rename it
to .jor.mybible. Also, the migration program will automatically set the
readonly field in the details table to 1. If you intend to allow editing
of the journal/book in MySword, you will have to set it to 0 manually
(please see below on how you can use Firefox and SQLite manager to do
that). But please note that Journal/Book editing in MySword is limited to
7 entries if the Premium Version is not activated. This can be activated
for a generous donation of any amount to support MySword development,
hosting and support.

From the MySword migration tools folder drag and drop the theWord file on top of the theWordBook2MySword.exe file and the command prompt may open automatically and create the MySword file.  If this does not work, try the steps below.

In the Command Prompt, if the module to be migrated is wight-manners.gbk.twm and
is placed in the same folder where the executables are, type the following:

TheWordBook2MySword wight-manners.gbk.twm

This will create wight-manners.bok.mysword. You can now just copy this file into
your selected Modules Path/Folder in your Android device.

You can also use Firefox SQLite Manager plugin/extension to see the output
SQLite database without using MySword.

9. Migration Errors

Note that Bible References that do not have correct book number and chapter
number will not be properly migrated (so there will be no link) but the
migration process will still continue. The errors are reported to the
console though.

10. Known Issues

The migration program will crash in case of IO Exceptions like the one
triggered when the .mysword file is opened in Firefox SQLite Manager or
you are running the wrong version of System.Data.SQLite.DLL (32-bit in a
64-bit Windows for example).

#4248 Copyright on Greek Bibles

Posted by pfpeller on 02 December 2011 - 09:16 PM

I think that NA26 is a Greek NT that many of the modern English translations are based on.  I may be wrong.

#4245 Copyright on Greek Bibles

Posted by pfpeller on 02 December 2011 - 09:03 PM

In a discussion thread somewhere else on the internet about the copyright status of NA26 I saw the comment below:

There is also the matter that they may not have a legal leg to stand on. There is the suggestion that a text that is going on it's second millenium may have passed into the Public Domain.

I thought that was an interesting thought.  How would the authors think they have the right to copyright a text that they think is a more accurate representation of a text that has existed for almost 2000 years!

Disclaimer - I am fundamentally repulsed to copyrights for any translation of the Bible.

Blessings,
Peter

I just finished reading this book.  I give it 5 stars :).

It is a very moving book that every Christian who has lost a loved one should read.  Also, every Christian who would like to be able to comfort others who have lost loved ones should read this book.  There is fresh insite from the Holy Spirit on many passages of scripture that have to do with what those Christians who have passed into the next life are doing.

This book is a very easy and powerful read.  Please consider reading it...

#3989 Reference Books (topx) - Peters, George N. H. - The Theocratic Kingdom (3 Vols)

Posted by pfpeller on 24 November 2011 - 03:11 PM

File Name: Peters, George N. H. - The Theocratic Kingdom (3 Vols)

File Submitter: pfpeller

File Submitted: 24 Nov 2011

File Category: Reference Books (topx)

Author: Peters, George N.H.
e-Sword Version: 9.x - 10.x

In 1884, Peters' major work, The Theocratic Kingdom—a three-volume defense of dispensational theology—was published for the first time, by Funk and Wagnalls; it was reprinted in 1952 and 1972. In the preface of the 1952 edition, Wilbur E. Smith calls it "the most exhaustive, thoroughly annotated and logically arranged study of Biblical prophecy that appeared in our country during the nineteenth century."

About the Author

George N. H. Peters (1825-1909)

George N. H. Peters (1825-1909) is one of the most mysterious and fascinating premillennial scholars of the nineteenth century. Giving most of his life to a study of the return of the Lord, he penned the classic three-volume work, The Theocratic Kingdom. The title actually continues: . . . of our Lord Jesus, The Christ, as Covenanted in The Old Testament and Presented in The New Testament. Why he was so driven in his premillennial convictions (yet being a Lutheran), is not fully known, except he was apparently influenced by the great Lutheran prophecy scholar, Dr. S. S. Schmucker. Schmucker also taught and inspired Joseph A. Seiss.

Peters attended and later graduated from Wittenberg College in Springfield, Ohio, in 1850. He held pastorates in Xenia and Springfield. How and when he began writing The Theocratic Kingdom is not clear. But he must have read hundreds, if not thousands, of references in theology (especially prophecy), history, science, and literature. Years must have passed before the 2,100 pages (some in small print) were completed. Amazingly, Peters has over four thousand quotes in this work. The "author lived and worked in an oblivion that seems almost mysterious, and experienced so little recognition at the time of the [first] publication of his work that one must almost believe that there was an organized determination to ignore its appearance" (Smith).

Though Peters lived during a period when there was an explosion of interest in Bible prophecy both in America and England, there was great opposition to such studies in the circles within which he lived. Peters writes of "deep despondency" because of criticism from brethren who opposed him. For many years in Springfield, a hundred laymen and pastors met for weekly prophecy studies. But he writes, his love of the prophetic Word brought upon him bitter and unrelenting abuse. Peters never fully explains the nature of the opposition. He writes that "his motive is assailed, his piety is doubted, his character is privately and publicly traduced, his learning and ability are lowered." All in "the defense of the truth."

In the introduction to The Theocratic Kingdom, Peters writes that all things are "tending toward the kingdom to be hereafter established by Christ, that the dispensations from Adam, to the present are only preparatory stages for its coming manifestation." He adds "that we cannot properly comprehend the Divine economy. . . unless we . . . consider the manifestation of its ultimate result as exhibited in this [coming] kingdom." Peters believed that modern rationalists had given untrustworthy definitions to the kingdom and we must return "to accept of the old view of the kingdom as the one clearly taught by the prophets, Jesus, the disciples, the apostles." Finally, Peters writes, after long investigation he was compelled with a sense of duty to publish his work. He notes he tried to set forth "the Millenarian views of the ancient and modern believers, and [to be] paving the way for a more strict and consistent interpretation of the kingdom, this itself would already be sufficient justification for its publication."

The Theocratic Kingdom may be one of the most complete compilations of quotes from all the writings of the last two thousand years dealing with the kingdom and the literal return of Christ to earth.

About the Author 2.0

From those who knew him well, it was said that he was the kindest and most generous person one
could know. However, he did not see eye to eye with the other ministers in the city of Springfield and
consequently never took an active part in their meetings, though he was the treasurer of the
Wittenberg Synod from 1853-58 and a member of the board of directors of Wittenberg College from
1855-59. Much of the disagreement that he experienced professionally with other clergymen in his
denomination centered around the fact that he was pre-millenarian in eschatology, while the
denomination was predominately post-millenarian. The Theocratic Kingdom reflects very well his
position on this subject.

George Peters spent great amounts of time in study, often-times eighteen to twenty hours per day for
days at a time. Many nights he wrote all night long. This is readily seen from this prodigious work on
the Kingdom which is an exhaustive study on the subject. Though The Theocratic Kingdom is his only
work in print, there are at least 13 other manuscripts, written in longhand, which are extant. From a
cursory glance of them, I would judge them to be equally exhaustive. They include expositions of
Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, I & II Thessalonians, I & II Timothy,
Titus, and the Revelation. In addition there are two other manuscripts on "The Lord's Supper," and
"The Predicted Future."

It is interesting to read what Dr. Wilbur Smith noted in his preface to The Theocratic Kingdom (1952
ed.) when he said, "One does not need to agree with all of his statements, nor even with all of his
interpretations, to recognize the greatness of this work that must have cost him a lifetime of research,
prayer, investigation, and laborious writing — these were the days before typewriters."
Wittenberg College, from which he received his bachelor's degree, was not in accord with pre-
millennial position, and therefore cool in its reception of his massive work. The Lutheran church as a
whole felt much the same, so that any recognition of George Peters as a person, as well as that of his
work, would have had to come from outside his own denomination. Thus the reason for his seeming
obscurity. However, in 1907, two years before his death, Wittenberg College bestowed upon him the
honorary degree, Doctor of Divinity, thereby admitting the value of his contribution in the field of
eschatology, though its position and that of the Lutheran denomination was different from the views of
Peter's Theocratic Kingdom.

Through the years the value of this work has manifested itself in the reception it has received from
Biblical scholars. The relevancy of the Word of God and the continuing interest in prophetical themes
is attested to by the continuing demand for reprints of such lasting works as this. George Peters gave
to the Christian public a memorable work, which testifies to the ever-lasting Grace of God in the
hearts of believers.

All,
I just noticed that there is a new free official e sword topic download dated 11/18/11 entitled "Have Heart" by Steve Berger that you can download from within E Sword.  I am not sure it is new or recently updated, but it was written in 2010 and it is a powerful book on the hope of heaven written by a pastor who recently lost a son.  I highly recommend it if you have not read it.
Blessings,
Peter

#3384 e-Sword 10.0.4 Released (Test Drive Version)

Posted by pfpeller on 04 November 2011 - 02:18 PM

All,
This discussion has me concerned about some of the resources that I have uploaded.  Please let me know if there are issues with them which make them unusable.  I am guilty of probably not having the skill/knowledge required in many cases to find/fix all of the issues.  I just haven't had time to learn it yet.  Maybe I should not have put some of these commentaries out there until I had those skills.

I know of some issues with some of the commentaries that I need to fix when I get time.  Please let me know with a private message of any serious issues you would like ot see fixed.  I might not be aware of them.

Thanks,
Peter
