The Garner-Howes Baptist Commentary of the Whole Bible (Update 1.2)

The Garner-Howes Baptist Commentary of the Whole Bible was originally published as a 23-volume set by Albert Garner (principal author) along with J. C. Howes, G.F. Crumley, and Eugene Garner in 1985. The Blessed Hope Foundation has released this digital edition into the public domain and has been converted to e-Sword format by the editor of the Baptist Training Center (Danny Jones) via s-Sword Tooltip Tool NT.

Interpretations are written in the language of the common man, designed especially for Bible teachers, Sunday School teachers, laymen and ministers who desire to know the meaning or find an explanation on any particular passage.
All interpretations are based on:
1. the root meaning of the words
2. the subject matter considered
3. the contextual setting of the subject matter and time element considered.

The authors of this commentary are conservative, independent, landmark, missionary Baptists.

Author's Biography

Albert Garner and J.C. Howes are names that resonate with a sense of historical depth and scholarly pursuit in the realm of religious studies and biblical commentary. While specific details about their lives and contributions might not dominate mainstream historical records, their work in the field of theology and biblical exegesis has left an indelible mark on the scholarly community and devout readers alike.

Albert Garner, known for his devout approach to the interpretation of biblical texts, has been a figure of intrigue and respect. His work, often characterized by a meticulous analysis of scripture, seeks to bridge the ancient texts with contemporary understanding, making the profound teachings of the Bible accessible and relevant to modern readers. Garner's commitment to exploring the depths of biblical wisdom has made his writings a valuable resource for theologians, pastors, and laypersons seeking to deepen their spiritual knowledge and connection.

J.C. Howes, on the other hand, brings a complementary scholarly lens to the study of biblical texts. With a keen eye for historical context and linguistic nuance, Howes' commentary enriches the reader's understanding of the cultural and historical backdrop against which the scriptures were written. His analytical rigor and scholarly depth contribute significantly to the academic study of biblical literature, offering insights that illuminate the complexities of theological themes.

Together, Albert Garner and J.C. Howes represent a powerful duo in the realm of biblical studies. Their works, though perhaps emerging from different scholarly traditions, converge on the common goal of elucidating the timeless messages of the Bible. For students of theology, pastors seeking sermon inspiration, or lay readers interested in the deeper meanings behind the sacred texts, the contributions of Garner and Howes offer a wellspring of wisdom and understanding, bridging millennia of spiritual thought with the challenges and questions of the present day.

What's New in Version 1.2 (See full changelog)

  • Adds Missing Commentary for Matthew chapters 15-28.
  • Corrects and updates tooltipped verses
  • Other minor error corrections
  • Added OSX version for e-Sword HD and LT

Looks like the verse references have not been tooltipped correctly in the first four books of the OT. It is easier to see this if you load just the .cmti module in a PC.

Thank you for the head's up on the CMTI version of the commentary. The tooltipped verses are working fine in the PC version (CMTX file). As I do not have a Mac, I haven't been able to error check the .CMTI version. I will look into it and hopefully correct any errors with an updated version.

Looks like commentary for some chapters of Matthew are missing (those after chapter 14). Other parts I have looked at good. Thanks for your work.

Update 1.2 has added the missing commentary for Matthew 15-28.

Thanks so much for this needed update. Sorry I already sent note off to e-sword feedback  but will try to apologize there too. Need more Missionary Baptist works and my homemade additions are ... sad.  This update appears to work fine now. So GOD bless and keep up the good works. ~esn
