Catena Aurea (Golden Chain) Aquinas 1.0
Gospels
0
Thomas Aquinas compiled the Catena Aurea — the "Golden Chain" — as a continuous gloss on the four Gospels, weaving together the commentary of more than eighty Church Fathers, Greek and Latin alike, into a single verse-by-verse exposition. Rather than one commentator's voice, each verse carries the fathers in sequence, showing how the early church read the passage.
825 entries across the four Gospels — Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. This is a Gospels commentary only; there are no Old Testament or epistle entries, by the nature of the work.
The English text is the nineteenth-century Oxford translation, long in the public domain. Free to copy, share and pass on, and never to be sold.
Prepared by SermonIndex.net, where the same commentary can be read online at https://www.sermonin...mentary/catena/ — the module is generated from that same text, so corrections on the site flow into future builds.
Also available in SWORD and MyBible formats, with 190 other public-domain commentaries, at https://www.sermonindex.net/modules/
Install: unzip and copy SI-CATENA.cmti into your e-Sword resources folder, then restart e-Sword. It appears in the Commentary pane. This is the current HTML-based module format.
