In Topic: Do the eSword macros work in Microsoft Word from Office 365?

24 June 2020 - 05:22 PM

Friends I love using eSword, and have attempted to install the macros into Microsoft Word, from Office 365.  I can see the macros under the view, macros tab, but when I click on them they do nothing, even when I have eSword open.  What am I doing wrong, or is there something that I have left out?  Any help is GREATLY appreciated,

Thanks,

Richard Dillon

I fixed a similar problem by uninstalling Office 64-bit and then installing Office 32-bit.

If this works for you please let me know.

Richard,

Can you access the macro eswordpaste. If so, tick the 'Include text formatting' box. For some reason the macros will only work on some PCs when this is done. Give it a try and see how it goes.

Thanks Stephen,

I am aware of the e-Sword Hotkey program and it sounds very versatile and lacks the restrictions that I currently have in regards to its use with many text editors and word processors. However, for those using Word this program would not compare with my macro as my macro achieves a far better output if that is what you are wanting to achieve. It corrects all the grammar eg

For Rom 3:10 e-Sword macro and Hotkey will return:    As it is written: "THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NO, NOT ONE;

My macro will return:   'As it is written: "THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NO, NOT ONE."'

And besides that it will also give you the choice of replacing the capitals and give:  'As it is written: "There is none righteous, no, not one."'

The returned script will also be in the same style and fonts as the working document whereas e-Sword returns its own formatting which is a real pain.

For those using who use Word  and are looking for a good result without having to adjust the grammar and formatting, my macro is far superior.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for your info. I am aware of the way to export however I have other issues of folder naming to get around as these differ from PC to PC. It is a little complicated but I think I can get on top of it eventually. I will post something when I have it ready.

Thanks for your interest. At the moment I have developed it for my own use and a few of my friends. I only put it on the forum to find if there is any broader interest for it. If I find there is some interest I will need to develop a way of sharing the macro with others. I have restricted capacity to develop a user friendly way of doing this but I would love to share my work with others. Currently it  only works on a Windows 10 PC and I have not tested it or developed it on any other device.

I will continue to await responses and work on some way of sharing it. Keep your ears to the ground!

If anyone has capacities in macro writing, and software capacities to develop and share it please feel free to contact me.

Thanks again for your comments.

That's right, you don't see it. It looks like it is a part of Word. The macros sit behind the 5 icons in the Insert Scriptures tab. The user is unaware of the macros which are being used.
