More REGEX search questions

17 January 2019 - 06:43 PM

From the Manual

Pg 242 "\bP(\w)+r\b"

I tried this with and without parentheses around "\w" and got the same results; why, then, are the paretheses needed? The "+" is going to work against just the "\w" whether it's in paretheses or not.

Pg 239

The manual says "(abc){2}” matches the “abc” characters two times.

Question: Is this a minimum of two or zero to two times?

Also, the manual says “(abc){2,}” matches abc a minimum of two times, and “{,4}” matches “abc” maximally four times.

Question: The {,4} is missing in this example, so how should the example read to correcyt itt?

My personal searches

If "\bthe\w" can find words beginning with "the" and extend the search to "therefore", why can't "\bsad\w" find "sadducee" or "sadducees"? I've tried with several versions. It doesn't even find "sad". Further, "sad\w" finds palisaded (Luke 19:43 Darby). Why?

Thanks much.

Well, I finally did it!

14 January 2019 - 10:03 AM

Hey all,

Over the weekend, I made it my goal—one that I was absolutely bent on completing—to read through the entire manual. And... I did it! Along with creating eight pages of notes for my own reference as I go along.

This has been a long time coming, and I really needed to get it done, what with my studies moving in the direction they are moving in. So I am so jazzed!

Thanks to all who jumped in and answered questions for me. Oh, and the bonus of completing the manual was that I got that much more familiar with this and the main site.

Thanks again.

Deleting Bookmarks for Hyperlink Use

13 January 2019 - 06:37 PM

Greetings all,

Chapter 8 of the manual addresses the creation of bookmarks for hyperlink use, however, it doesn't tell you how to delete those bookmarks.

A search here found one hit (actually, using Google: site: biblesupport.com delete OR deleting bookmarks) which stated to toggle the invisible characters icon (the paragraph marker), get to the bookmark and delete it there. Is this the only way to do so?

Topic Notes in The Reference section: what were they named?

13 January 2019 - 02:44 PM

Greetings all,

The Manual states that version 9 (and earlier) of e-Sword had kept the Topic Notes file(s) in the main e-Sword folder. I'm curious: what was the name of the personal working Topic Notes file and of the main Editor's default file? I mean, they couldn't be named the same, obviously.

I ask because in my version 11 e-Sword I have a file named Topic.topx in both \user\My Documents\e-Sword and in \Programs (x86)\e-Sword. As I understand it, the one in My Documents is my personal working file when in the Editor, and the one in the Programs file is the main Editor file.

So, just so I know if I come across this in any old posts or what have you (here on the board), what was the name given to the personal Topic Notes file back when?

Thanks much.

Conflict of Interest with Study Notes in Editor

11 January 2019 - 06:28 PM

Hey all,

The training video on Study Notes (over on e-Sword.net) shows very clearly that after you choose your Scripture in the main Bible area, you need to depress the Sync button in the Study Notes Editor to match its Scripture area with the Bible area, BUT then press the Sync button again to deactivate it; it even warns you not to leave it depressed, but it doesn't say why.

I've noticed, though, that a few posts here as well as the Study Notes section in the manual say to to leave the Sync button depressed. So I'm a bit confused as to which I should do.

Finally, what is the difference that takes place if you do or do not leave the Sync button depressed?
