In Topic: How To Rename Reference Books, e.g. .refx formats?

27 October 2023 - 03:44 PM

Hi Olaf,

Thanks for all your evaluation of my dilemma. I found out that I could indeed rename the refx filename within C:\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword to my liking. I did that to put last name first, then first name, then title, then pertinent subject matter. However, when I restarted e-Sword the reference document again showed up with the prior non-descriptive filename; it didn't have the last name or first name as just changed on the filename.

Fortunately, I came up with a crude work-around. I used e-Sword ToolTip Tool NT and created a new reference document. That references the old non-descriptive filename. Then I save that as a topx file with my desired complete filename. That is an empty file, but it is at least searchable by title, and it tells me where to find the actual file with content.

Eventually, I'll go through all my hundreds of references and rename them if possible, or else make a new .topx file that is searchable and points to the actual content-containing file.

For anyone new to this discussion, I am referring to my desire to locate references by searching for specific words within the title. To do that, from within e-Sword click the far right icon "Reference Library." Then click within the upper right field and type the word you want to locate, for example "Ephesians." Then all the references that are entitled "...Ephesians..." will appear as reference choices. That way you don't have to scroll through hundreds of references, if you have a lot. (But first, the title of the reference must include, "Ephesians," for example.)

In Topic: transfer of mysword modules to e-sword

Thank you, PeanutGallery! Your suggestion worked.

For anyone new to e-Sword, I wrote out my detailed procedure to convert MyBible formatted files to e-Sword:

goto:
scroll down to and expand previous versions.
Download this older version of software: (newer version had an error)
Simple_Bible_Reader 5.2 (1.28 MB), src.zip (2.21 MB)

Open Simple Bible Reader software.
Then I drug a MyBible file into that window.
Then, File, export book.
Type in the file name you want.
Select save as file type: change to *.topx
Choose a location, such as your download folder.
Close Simple Bible Reader program before following step.
Drag new topx file into c: Program Files (x86) / e-sword

Then close and re-open e-Sword.

Then locate the new file in the Reference section.

Hope this helps.

In Topic: transfer of mysword modules to e-sword

I went to their website and downloaded this:

Download:  Simple_Bible_Reader 5.4.1 (10.81 MB)

Then I tried to install it. It gave a fatal application error.

Is there any other way to convert a MyBible file for use in e-sword?

Thanks,

Van

In Topic: Bible Verse/Topic Quick Reference ?

Dogfish,

You said you are looking for a simple verse/topic reference. Here are two ideas that may be very helpful, though not exactly what you want. Anyway, take a look and see if they will help.

1. Torrey's New Topical Textbook. It is in the dictionary category. By R. A. Torrey. Published in 1903; public domain.

Click Ctrl T to open up the topics column on the far right. Then type your desired topic in the search box at the top of that column. It will then show you several definitions of that topic and clickable scripture references. I like this.

To get it, look at the menu, then Downloads, then Dictionaries and find "Torrey" near the bottom of the free list. Install it and restart the program as usual.

2. Another similar and helpful dictionary is also free. Nave's Topical Bible. Again, click Ctrl T to open up the index column with the search box at the top. In this dictionary you can actually type in two words like "ten commandments" or "golden rule."

In Topic: E-sword modules for Android tablet

12 August 2023 - 11:57 AM

I have e-Sword for my Android phone. On BibleSupport.com I downloaded a commentary in the i format. Now, that file is located in the download folder on my phone. How do I get e-sword to find or recognize it? Thanks so much for your help (in advance.)

Van

Updated... I just found that if I click on BBL on the bottom menu; then click the hamburger menu at top left; then scroll to the bottom and see the General section and click on Import; then give permission to import files; then click my file manager; then click my downloads icon; than click the file I just downloaded from BibleSupport.com it seems to have worked. I found my new "commentary" in the REF tab at the bottom, and not under CMT tab, like I expected.
Is that the proper procedure to answer my question above? Thanks!
