In Topic: Aramaic Bible in Plain English

Hallo!

Is this translation usefull' Could we have it in e-sword? Is it copyrighted?

Hi Johanseb,

I am the editor of what is called the Aramac Bible in Plain English on Biblehub.  It is now called the Original Aramaic New Testament in Plain English, and we are into our 8th edition.

We have a module for the Original Aramaic New Testament in Plain English, as well as the Aramaic - English Interlinear New Testament, on which it was based, which we have done with word numbers and a numbered Aramaic dictionary module.

We have modules for esword HD, LT, PC and Mac as well as Android.

You can go to our website http://AramaicNT.com and follow the link to get the modules, we sell them as a bundle for $15- after all once you get the modules why shouldn't you be able to use it on any device that you want?  We are working out the bugs of our Estrangela font version and will be sending out updates to customers soon, all updates to our modules are free.  You get the numbered interlinear NT, plain English NT, numbered dictionary, full notes and commentary. The numbered interlinear comes in both the simple and vocalised edition which gives eastern pronunciation of all the words in the NT, right next to the Aramaic word. It is an excellent vocalisation and is perfect for those wanting to learn how to read Aramaic.

We are working on translating the OT, we actually have over 3/4 of the OT done in interlinear form at this point.  You will be seeing an interlinear module coming out this year..at least that is my plan.  We will try to do a numbered interlinear of the Aramaic Peshitta Old Testament and an updated dictionary at the same time, but a plain Interlinear will be coming up soon.

Our edition is of better standard than the Lamsa edition, if you do some study on it you will see that it is considered by most to be a rather poor translation as it was influenced heavily after the KJV.  Not that the KJV is bad, but that is not how you do a good translation.  Our translations are direct and literal, word for word translations and our plain English versions are based completely on the interlinear edition.  We remain totally transparent in the way that Dave Bauscher, our translator, has translated these editions.  That is why we did the dictionary which has links to Dukhrana.com and the Comprehensive Aramaic Lexicon online, a total of over six dictionaries, all available on any e-sword or mysword edition with web access.

These modules are a group of tools that is available nowhere and will be really helpful for anyone wanting to do word studies in the Peshitta NT.

Blessings and Peace,

Tim.

In Topic: Tooltip and extra verses in a Bible module

29 December 2015 - 04:06 AM

Thanks for the comments everyone.  The cases where there are verses missing from the translation is usually fixed by me adding the comment in the verse text "This verse is omitted in the Peshitta Old Testament" and observing the standard KJV numbering.  Tooltip does have the problem that with Daniel for example, it has 70 extra verses in chapter 3 in the Peshitta OT. These would be a problem with the current version of Tooltip as it stands. B.H. If flexibility in this area could be added to the next version of tooltip it would be helpful.  We won't be doing the plain English version of the OT Peshitta for a little while, but when we do I will be using tooltip for that purpose.  It works wonderfully for standard bible module generation. Brent, would there be a problem with extra verse number references in the commentary module as well, or just the bible module?

I won't be using tooltip for the RTL interlinear as we had some difficult problems with it in making the NT module over a year ago. Brent you may remember some of our discussions at the time, it became quicker and easier to generate it through other means, thanks to the help of Ray as he already had tools to do it. With this OT module I will have to manually generate the file using SQL myself .... Lots of fun! :)

Blessings,

Tim.

So from initial testing it seems that if I add an extra entry in the module SQLite file with an extra verse number it shows up in the PC version of e-Sword.  I am not sure yet if it works with HD and LT yet, but the PC version accepts it fine.

Hi Jon, I checked in the LXX at Exodus 38, but it has fewer verses than the Hebrew and not more.  I am talking about where there are more verses than in the Hebrew. Fewer verses are no issue at all.  What exactly does the expression \[ do in the module syntax?

Do you know any way of getting in touch with "Raymond", as he did the NT module for me and said he would do the OT one when we got it translated.  PM me if you have any way of contacting him.

Tim Mitchell.
